Traditionally, direct marketing companies have relied on pre-testing to select the best offers to send to their audience.
Companies systematically dispatch the offers under consideration to a limited sample of potential buyers, rank them with respect
to their performance and, based on this ranking, decide which offers to send to the wider population. Though this pre-testing
process is simple and widely used, recently the industry has been under increased pressure to further optimize learning, in
particular when facing severe time and learning space constraints. The main contribution of the present work is to demonstrate
that direct marketing firms can exploit the information on visual content to optimize the learning phase. This paper proposes
a two-phase learning strategy based on a cascade of regression methods that takes advantage of the visual and text features
to improve and accelerate the learning process. Experiments in the domain of a commercial Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS)
show the effectiveness of the proposed methods and a significant improvement over traditional learning techniques. The proposed
approach can be used in any multimedia direct marketing domain in which offers comprise both a visual and text component.

Pressure ripples in electric power steering (EPS) systems can be caused by the phase lag between the driver s steering torque and steer angle, the nonlinear frictions, and the disturbances from road and sensor noise especially during high-frequency maneuvers. This paper investigates the use of the robust fuzzy control method for actively reducing pressure ripples for EPS systems. Remarkable progress on steering maneuverability is achieved. The EPS dynamics is described with an eight-order nonlinear state-space model and approximated by a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model with time-varying delays and external disturbances. A stabilization approach is then presented for nonlinear time-delay systems through fuzzy state feedback controller in parallel distributed compensation (PDC) structure. The closed-loop stability conditions of EPS system with the fuzzy controller are parameterized in terms of the linear matrix inequality (LMI) problem. Simulations and experiments using the proposed robust fuzzy controller and traditional PID controller have been carried out for EPS systems. Both the simulation and experiment results show that the proposed fuzzy controller can reduce the torque ripples and allow us to have a good steering feeling and stable driving. 相似文献

In this paper, we propose a new state predictive model following control system (MFCS). The considered system has linear time delays. With the MFCS method, we obtain a simple input control law. The bounded property of the internal states for the control is given and the utility of this control design is guaranteed. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. 相似文献

A new image fusion scheme based on local accumulated gradient and PCA transform is presented. The image fusion process begins by taking the Dual tree complex wavelet transform of the source images. Then, the fused local detailed coefficients are chosen according to local accumulated gradient rule, and the fused approximate coefficients are acquired by selection or averaging rule based on PCA. Finally, the fused image can be obtained by taking the inverse dual tree complex wavelet transform of the fused composite coefficients. The experimental results show that the proposed method is an efficient approach to image fusion. 相似文献

Tracking control for switched linear systems with time‐delay is investigated in this paper. Based on the state‐dependent switching method, sufficient conditions for the solvability of the tracking control problem are given. We use single Lyapunov function technique and a typical hysteresis switching law to design a tracking control law such that the H∞ model reference tracking performance is satisfied. The controller design problem can be solved efficiently by using linear matrices inequalities. Since convex combination techniques are used to derive the delay independent criteria, some subsystems are allowed to be unstable. It is highly desirable that a non‐switched time‐delay system can not earn such property. Simulation example shows the feasibility and validity of the switching control law. A special class of nonlinear systems, i.e. expanding piecewise affine discrete‐time scalar systems with limited data rate, is used to investigate the role of topological entropy and date rate in a practical stability problem. This special class of nonlinear system as an abstract model is an extension of discrete‐time unstable scalar systems, a well‐known model for quantized feedback design. For such systems with finite quantization levels, how to design a quantized feedback controller to achieve practical stability is considered as a boundability problem. Unlike the existing results about topological entropy for nonlinear stabilization and optimal control for linear systems, for the boundability problem under consideration, the feedback topological entropy defined in this paper is not equal to the minimum number of the quantization interval (i.e. the minimal information rate) and only provides a necessary condition for the boundability of our system under some condition. A necessary and sufficient condition for the boundability is also presented in terms of an inequality related to data rate and the minimum number of quantization intervals. Estimating the cycle time of a job in a wafer fabrication plant (wafer fab) is a critical task to the wafer fab. Many recent studies have shown that pre-classifying a job before estimating the cycle time was beneficial to the forecasting accuracy. However, most pre-classification approaches applied in this field could not absolutely classify jobs. Besides, whether the pre-classification approach combined with the subsequent forecasting approach was suitable for the data was questionable. For tackling these problems, two hybrid approaches with example post-classification, the equally-divided method and the proportional-to-error method, are proposed in this study in which a job is post-classified by a back propagation network (BPN) instead after the forecasting error is generated. In this novel way, only jobs whose cycle time forecasts are the same accurate will be clustered into the same category, and the classification algorithm becomes tailored to the forecasting approach. For evaluating the effectiveness of the proposed methodology and to make comparison with some existing approaches, production simulation (PS) is applied in this study to generate test data. According to experimental results, the forecasting accuracy (measured with root mean squared error, RMSE) of the proportional-to-error method was significantly better than those of the other approaches in most cases by achieving a 26–56% (and an average of 41%) reduction in RMSE over the comparison basis – multiple-factor linear combination (MFLC). The effect of post-classification was also statistically significant. 相似文献

The nature of many sensor applications as well as continuously changing sensor data often imposes real-time requirements on wireless sensor network protocols. Due to numerous design constraints, such as limited bandwidth, memory and energy of sensor platforms, and packet collisions that can potentially lead to an unbounded number of retransmissions, timeliness techniques designed for real-time systems and real-time databases cannot be applied directly to wireless sensor networks. Our objective is to design a protocol for sensor applications that require periodic collection of raw data reports from the entire network in a timely manner. We formulate the problem as a graph coloring problem. We then present TIGRA (Timely Sensor Data Collection using Distributed Graph Coloring) — a distributed heuristic for graph coloring that takes into account application semantics and special characteristics of sensor networks. TIGRA ensures that no interference occurs and spatial channel reuse is maximized by assigning a specific time slot for each node. Although the end-to-end delay incurred by sensor data collection largely depends on a specific topology, platform, and application, TIGRA provides a transmission schedule that guarantees a deterministic delay on sensor data collection. 相似文献

Considering an infinite number of eigenvalues for time delay systems, it is difficult to determine their stability. We have
developed a new approach for the stability test of time delay nonlinear hybrid systems. Construction of Lyapunov functions
for hybrid systems is generally a difficult task, but once these functions are found, stability’s analysis of the system is
straight-forward. In this paper both delay-independent and delay-dependent stability tests are proposed, based on the construction
of appropriate Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals. The methodology is based on the sum of squares decomposition of multivariate
polynomials and the algorithmic construction is achieved through the use of semidefinite programming. The reduction techniques
provide numerical solution of large-scale instances; otherwise they will be computationally infeasible to solve. The introduced
method can be used for hybrid systems with linear or nonlinear vector fields. Finally simulation results show the correctness
and validity of the designed method.
