Value not virtual ‐ one library's response to the virtual campus

The purpose statement of Deakin University Library is ‘We help people learn.’ This applies equally to on or off‐campus students, which has meant that the Library has strived to provide innovative resources and services to break down the barriers of geography and time experienced by our remote students. With the advances in information and communication technologies, Deakin University Library has been able to capitalise on these developments to deliver electronic services to both on and off‐campus students, thus complementing the valuable services provided by the Library team. While the services provided through the virtual or digital library are a great leap forward, providing access to a wide range of resources and services 24 hours per day x 7 days per week, these services must be seen in conjunction with the professional assistance provided by librarians. Deakin University Library's success is in its customer focus and the value added digital services available through the virtual campus.     

Towards computer game studies

It is relatively stress-free to write about computer games as nothing too much has been said yet, and almost anything goes. The situation is pretty much the same when it comes to writing about games and gaming in general. The sad fact with alarming cumulative consequences is that they are under-theorized; there are Huizinga, Caillois and Ehrmann of course, and libraries full of board game studies,in addition to game theory and bits and pieces of philosophy – most notably those of Wittgenstein – but they won't get us very far with computer games. So if there already is or soon will be a legitimate field for computer game studies, this field is also very open to intrusions and colonisations from the already organized scholarly tribes. Resisting and beating them is the goal of our first survival game in this paper, as what these emerging studies need is independence, or at least relative independence.     

Systems of representation: a pedagogical model for design education in the information age

Abstract

The course SDR: Sistemas de Representación(Systems of Representation), is the last stage of a line of work which has the objective of integrating information technologies in the education of architecture in a meaningful way. A distinctive mark of this pedagogic approach has been to look upon computer technology as an opportunity to rethink the methods, contents and goals of architecturaleducation,in thelight of contemporary culture.

The course is structured in six themes, each one standing for a ‘system of representation’: ‘text’, ‘figure’, ‘object’, ‘image’, ‘space’ and ‘light’. Within every system, a variety of issues dealing with the concept of ‘representation’ are addressed in an interdisciplinary manner. It is a compulsory course lasting three semesters, in the second and third year of a five-year architectural program. It has been offered since the academic year 1999/2000.     

洞庭湖治理与湖区湿地保护探讨

洞庭湖是长江洪水的天然调蓄场所,不仅承接湘、资、沅、澧四水水沙,还纳入由荆江三口分泄的长江水沙,经湖泊调蓄后由城陵矶注入长江,形成了复杂的江湖关系,需要加强流域统一管理。通过分析洞庭湖区自然、经济状况及湖区湿地情况,结合1998年大水后湖区的治理情况及三峡工程蓄水运用后江湖关系的新变化,深入分析湖区湿地生态环境所面临的诸多问题,探讨如何在新一轮洞庭湖综合治理过程中,科学处理湖区综合治理与湿地生态环境保护与修复的关系。提出了洞庭湖统一管理措施,以便有效保护洞庭湖湿地生态环境与资源。     

大宁河补水工程环境地质条件与布置方案研究(Ⅱ)

针对丹江口水库远期补水需要,对大宁河补水工程的环境工程地质条件进行了全面研究,全面论述了东西线4个比选方案。研究认为：各方案深埋长隧洞为工程难点,但就国内外已建工程经验而言,暂未发现在经济条件许可的前提下存在不可克服的技术问题。对4个组合方案环境工程地质条件、重要非地质因素进行了比选研究,认为：西线优势方案“西线剪刀峡（檀木-茅草坡）方案”在二级泵站站址、控制性穿岭隧洞长度及其可实现最短施工长度、隧洞埋深、不稳定类岩体长度等方面优势明显;就重要非地质因素而言,该方案在抽水蓄能效益、带动当地经济发展、投资集约度与灵活度等方面优势明显,在调水保证度这一核心任务方面,西线具有突出优越性。     

引水济湖工程措施的生态环境影响评价方法

在湖泊引水方案和二维环境流体动力学模型影响预测计算结果的基础上,提出引水后湖泊环境生态影响预测评价方法:①从湖泊水景的自然度、自净(健康)度、景观度、亲水度、连通度5个方面,构造了引江济湖工程对湖泊生态-环境-景观综合影响指数评价法;②从水环境质量、生物多样性、防洪排涝、景观生态结构等方面应用质量指标法进行工程对湖泊健康综合影响评价。实例应用表明,两种评价方法可以对湖泊引水影响效果进行科学评价,结论也比较一致,为正确实施引水济湖方案提供了科学评估方法和依据。     

小浪底工程建设环境影响分析、评价与修复

阐述小浪底水利枢纽工程施工区、库区和移民安置区环境管理体系的建立后,对诱发地震进行监测、引入环境监理机制,加强现场监督协调,对水体、大气、噪声污染采取应对措施,对固体废弃物进行强化处理,开展系统化、规模化的水土保持措施建设和公共健康保障等措施,使小浪底工程建设对生态环境的不利影响得到预防和治理,施工区及周边生态明显改善,移民安置区可能发生环境影响得到有效控制,环境管理工作取得良好的效果。     

水生态保护与建设的理论问题探讨——以武汉城市圈为视角

自武汉城市圈被评为两型社会综合配套改革实验区以来,面对水环境呈现多样性和复杂性的现状,将武汉城市圈建设成为富有滨水特色的现代化生态城市圈是两型社会建设主题中应有之义,也是推动城市圈生态化发展的必由之路。针对武汉城市圈水生态保护与建设的问题,在阐述了其必然性的基础上,对理论支撑及基本原则作了细致具体的分析,希望能对武汉城市圈水生态保护与建设的实践问题等相关研究有所帮助。     

基于主题深度搜索的数学领域教育平台研究

论文综合利用主题搜索技术、深网信息集成技术和Wiki技术,设计并实现了一个面向数学领域的教育平台.此平台是一个集数学资源共享和用户交流的开放平台,用户在此平台可以利用数学Wiki添加、编辑、评论数学领域信息,提升自主学习能力,实现广泛交流.同时,还能利用数学搜索引擎搜索到专业的数学知识,定制URL检索,扩大检索范围,提高了平台的个性化服务水平及搜索的准确率.实验结果表明,文中基于SVM分类算法的数学主题网页分类器具有较高的准确率和召回率.
