On strategies for enforcing interfacial constraints and evaluating jump conditions with the extended finite element method

We consider a problem stemming from recent models of phase transitions in stimulus‐responsive hydrogels, wherein a sharp interface separates swelled and collapsed phases. Extended finite element methods that approximate the local solution with an enriched basis such that the mesh need not explicitly ‘fit’ the interface geometry are emphasized. Attention is focused on the weak enforcement of the normal configurational force balance and various options for evaluating the jump in the normal component of the solute flux at the interface. We show that as the reciprocal interfacial mobility vanishes, it plays the role of a penalty parameter enforcing a pure Dirichlet constraint, eventually triggering oscillations in the interfacial velocity. We also examine alternative formulations employing a Lagrange multiplier to enforce this constraint. It is shown that the most convenient choice of basis for the Lagrange multiplier results in oscillations in the multiplier field and a decrease in accuracy and rate of convergence in local error norms, suggesting a lack of stability in the discrete formulation. Under such conditions, neither the direct evaluation of the gradient of the approximation at the phase interface nor the interpretation of the Lagrange multiplier field provide a robust means to obtain the jump in the normal component of solute flux. Fortunately, the adaptation and use of local, domain‐integral methodologies considerably improves the flux evaluations. Fixed mesh front‐tracking methodology for finite element simulations

A direct front‐tracking method using an Eulerian–Lagrangian formulation is developed in two space dimensions. The front‐tracking method is general in that it can track any type of interface once its local velocity is specified or has been determined by calculation. The method uses marker points to describe the interface position and tracks the interface evolution on a fixed finite‐element mesh, including growth, contraction, splitting and merging. Interfacial conditions are applied directly at the interface position. The method is applied to three scenarios that involve different interface conditions and are based on energy and mass diffusion. The three calculations are for the dendritic solidification of a pure substance, the cellular growth of an alloy, and the Ostwald ripening of silica particles in silicon. Numerical results show that very complicated interface morphologies and topological changes can be simulated properly and efficiently. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Synthesis of selenium nanoparticles in the presence of silk fibroin

This paper describes a solution-phase approach to the synthesis of selenium nanoparticles by reducing selenious acid solution with ascorbic acid in the presence of silk fibroin. The monodispersed spherical selenium colloid particles obtained were very stable in silk fibroin solution and characterized by Atomic force microscopy and X-ray techniques. The influences of temperature and ultrasonication on the morphology of selenium nanoparticles were also discussed. The experiments showed that the selenium nanoparticles with various morphologies could be obtained under different temperatures and the appropriate ultrasonication time was 60 min. This result indicated that the silk fibroin molecules intimately associated with the surface of the selenium particles and controlled the growth particles.

储运罐区计算机监测系统是石化企业自动控制的薄弱环节。中国石油集团公司抚顺石油一厂使用ZYG-101型电子智能液位仪，以及使用FIX组态软件完成该系统的数据库组态、工艺流程显示、实时和历史趋势显示、报警和报表等处理过程，通过二次表的串行口与计算机进行通信，由计算机实时监测每个罐的各种重要参数。运行证明：该系统测量误差小，数据实时性好．易于存储及远程传送，较理想地达到储运罐区的自动检测功能。

本文介绍了一种作业效率高、省时省力新型的转炉炉底车，其特点是转盘转动灵活，炉底车上项盘径向任意方向均能平稳倾斜一定角度，以保证炉底圆周所受项力均匀可靠，满足炉底安装要求。     

Motor fluency deficits in the sequencing of actions in schizophrenia.

Many everyday activities depend on the capacity to organize and smoothly execute motor sequences. The authors tested the hypothesis that a sequencing deficit is associated with schizophrenia. They used a new method to distinguish between lower and higher order mechanisms for the impairment. The 1st task involved triggered sequences in which sensory information from 1 movement was the cue for initiation of the following movement. Results showed that the motor sequences were performed as fluently in patients as in controls. The 2nd and 3rd tasks involved sequences in which the entire movement sequence could be preplanned. Patients executed the sequences less fluently than controls but only under the condition where action sequences were required. Furthermore, the patients' fluency deficit increased with sequence complexity. The high discrimination power of Task 3 gave the authors a means to control for a potential psychometric confound involving differential discriminating power and to argue in favor of a specific higher order motor fluency deficit in patients with schizophrenia. It is suggested that basic lower order mechanisms that integrate sensory information with outgoing motor commands are preserved in schizophrenia, whereas higher order integrative mechanisms that are required for the smooth coordination of motor sequences are impaired. 本文为工业机器人提出了一种极点配置控制法，这种控制方法的优点有：一是它的积分作用消除了机器人的微小扰动和稳态误差；二是能任意设置系统的极点，因此能保证闭环系统的稳定性和规定状态变量的暂态响应；三是加入了加速度反馈，抑制了由电枢电感所引起的机械手的振动，最后，给出了ＰＵＭＡ５６２机器人的计算机仿真和实验结果验证了此控制法的有效性。     

硼／铝复合材料管构件的界面特性EI

主要研究带钛合金连接头硼／铝复合材料管构件中Ｂ－Ａｌ－Ｔｉ间的界面结构与性质。研究表明，在复合工艺条件下，硼－铝界面附近没有检测到任何铝－硼化合物，而钛－铝间形成ＴｉＡｌ有序金属间化合物相。实验证明，硼／铝复合材料与铝合金端环之间采用的固结方法是有效的，且可按照受载类型随意调整斜面搭接长度，达到承受不同载荷的目的。     

Episodic Logic: A comprehensive,natural representation for language understanding

A new comprehensive framework for narrative understanding has been developed. Its centerpiece is a new situational logic calledEpisodic Logic (EL), a knowledge and semantic representation well-adapted to the interpretive and inferential needs of general NLU. The most distinctive features of EL is its natural language-like expressiveness. It allows for generalized quantifiers, lambda abstraction, sentence and predicate modifiers, sentence and predicate reification, intensional predicates (corresponding to wanting, believing, making, etc.), unreliable generalizations, and perhaps most importantly, explicit situational variables (denoting episodes, events, states of affairs, etc.) linked to arbitrary formulas that describe them. These allow episodes to be explicitly related in terms of part-whole, temporal and causal relations. Episodic logical form is easily computed from surface syntax and lends itself to effective inference.
