Change of the amorphous state by heat treatment below the glass transition temperature

This study was undertaken to elucidate the state of a polymer in the amorphous state through a change of motion of the molecular chain caused by heat treatment below the glass transition temperature. From dielectric measurements of amorphous poly(ethylene terephthalate) heat-treated below T_g, it was found that the average relaxation time, the distribution of relaxation time and the dielectric strength increase with increase of heat treatment. From these results, it was concluded that the amorphous state becomes more random by heat treatment.     

Vibrational spectroscopic characterization of rigid rod polymers: 3. Microstructural changes in stressed polymers

Highly oriented poly(p-phenylene benzobisthiazole) films were stressed in a miniature hydraulic tensile tester interfaced to a fast scanning Fourier transform infra-red spectrometer. The changes in relative intensity, polarization, frequency and shape of infrared bands have been useful in the elucidation of microstructures. With the short time resolution achievable, vibrational bandshape and frequency have been shown to change at different rates when an external stress was applied.     

金安金沙江悬索桥隧道式锚碇变形破坏机制研究

隧道式锚碇的变形破坏机制涉及到结构与围岩的协同作用问题。以华丽高速公路金安金沙江悬索桥两岸隧道锚变形破坏机制为研究对象,利用工程类比法评价了其稳定性控制要素,设计了超载数值试验。根据塑性区的扩展过程确定了施工安全监测和需要采取预加固的重点部位,确定了隧道锚围岩的破坏模式。根据锚面监测点位移由mm到cm量级突变确定的两岸锚岩系统极限荷载均为6~8倍设计缆力,则锚岩系统的设计承载力取3倍设计缆力下变形安全是有保障的。丽江岸塑性区在10 P下贯通;华坪岸塑性区在14 P下贯通。设计缆力作用下,丽江岸锚碇最大位移1.5 mm、围岩1.2 mm、地表0.5 mm;华坪岸锚碇最大位移1.7 mm、围岩1.5 mm、地表0.7 mm,其响应顺序为后锚面监测点前锚面监测点锚碇中间岩体地表点,可作为后期结构及围岩安全监测布点和预警的参考,也证明当前设计缆力下变形和强度均是安全的。     

Sliding mode control for Markov jump linear uncertain systems with partly unknown transition rates

In this paper, based on sliding mode control approach, the robust stabilisation problem for a class of continuous-time Markovian jump linear uncertain systems with partly unknown transition rates is investigated. The transition rate matrix under consideration covers completely known, boundary known and completely unknown elements. By making use of linear matrix inequalities technique, sufficient conditions are presented to derive the linear switching surface and guarantee the stochastic stability of sliding mode dynamics. Then a sliding mode control law is designed to drive the state trajectory of the closed-loop system to the specified linear switching surface in finite time in spite of the existing uncertainties and unknown transition rates. Finally, an example is given to verify the validity of the theoretical results.     

Underactuated fingers controlled by robust and adaptive trajectory following methods

Choosing an appropriate control scheme to alleviate nonlinearities and uncertainties is not a trivial task, especially when models are not easily available and practical evaluation provides the only means for actual performance assessment. Various factors can contribute to these nonlinearities and uncertainties, such as friction and stiction. Thus, this article investigates four different control schemes, namely PID, adaptive, conventional sliding mode control (SMC) and integral sliding mode control (ISMC) which are implemented in the Bristol Elumotion Robot Hand (BERUL) to analyse and overcome the aforementioned problems. The hand has five fingers with 16 joints and all fingers are underactuated. The implementation of the proposed control schemes are challenging since the BERUL fingers have significant friction, stiction and unknown parameters. The fingers are light in weight and fragile. Comparative performance characteristics have shown that the ISMC is the most suitable candidate to provide good experimental trajectory following and positioning control for underactuated BERUL fingers.     

H.264/SVC mode decision based on mode correlation and desired mode list

Design of video encoders involves implementation of fast mode decision (FMD) algorithm to reduce computation complexity while maintaining the performance of the coding. Although H.264/scalable video coding (SVC) achieves high scalability and coding efficiency, it also has high complexity in implementing its exhaustive computation. In this paper, a novel algorithm is proposed to reduce the redundant candidate modes by making use of the correlation among layers. A desired mode list is created based on the probability to be the best mode for each block in base layer and a candidate mode selection in the enhancement layer by the correlations of modes among reference frame and current frame. Our algorithm is implemented in joint scalable video model (JSVM) 9.19.15 reference software and the performance is evaluated based on the average encoding time, peak signal to noise ration (PSNR) and bit rate. The experimental results show 41.89% improvement in encoding time with minimal loss of 0.02 dB in PSNR and 0.05% increase in bit rate.
