The Board of Directors announces that 3,740 persons were elected to initial membership in the American Psychological Association as of January 1, 1977. Of these, 2,639 were elected as Members, and 1,101 as Associate members. This item contains the names of each of these new APA members. Across the Secretary's Desk: Sample of Outgoing Mail.

In February, the Executive Secretary hit upon a new and to him a nicely adaptive mechanism for meeting the constantly felt need to let American Psychological Association (APA) members know at least as much as they want to about the operation of their Central Office. He asked the professional staff of the Central Office to look through copies of the last month's correspondence from the Secretary's Audograph to see if they could find material that was (a) of at least mild potential interest to a number of APA members, (b) illustrative of some facet of APA functioning, (c) free of any threat to the privacy of the recipient, and (d) at least moderately literate. Each member of the staff found some material which he was willing, under pressure, to mark as meeting the above criteria. Though the level of reliability was nothing to brag about, the process, abetted by some editorial license, resulted in the following array of sentences and paragraphs from the Executive Secretary's outgoing correspondence for a month or so early in 1955. Counsel on Counseling.

American Psychological Association members will probably be interested in knowing that the popular press is publicizing the idea that the ability to administer a shot of antibiotics is not a necessary prerequisite for working with people who have some emotional problems. "Humanistic" Psychologists.

Having successfully initiated the petition for the establishment of the Division of Humanistic Psychology within APA, I was intrigued by Michael Wertheimer's (see record 1979-22531-001) conclusion that the use of the label humanistic to differentiate this type of psychology from all the rest is unnecessary-particularly since I have arrived at a similar conclusion myself. Outside the APA, many of those who are currently calling themselves "humanistic psychologists" are not really psychologists at all; and the movement seems to be primarily made up of hucksters, charlatans, and perennial therapy shoppers eager to sample the latest far-out techniques--along with a few diehard members of the counterculture left over from the 1960s who are still trying to learn how to be bigger and better hippies. Within APA itself, what is frequently perceived as ideological discrimination is primarily the result of a lack of sufficient intellectual rigor. This in turn has led to the development of a cultic, "us-versus-them" attitude that tends to confuse eccentricity with creativity and to substitute in-group loyalty for the pursuit of excellence. Whatever the situation may have been in the past, humanistic psychology, like Gestalt psychology, may certainly be included in the mainstream of psychological thought today. West coast problem.

The Western Psychological Association (WPA) covers a lot of ground. Southern California is a long way from Seattle, and a recent burst of enthusiasm by the Executive Council saw us annex Alaska and Hawaii. The time and expense involved in traveling from Washington or Oregon to Southern California to present a paper at a regional meeting has prompted one faction to plug for two divisions of the WPA--the notion being that the two divisions would meet separately on odd years and the entire organization would get together on the even years. There do not seem to be strong objections to this arrangement, but neither have its proponents gained much support. Another faction feels that we should do away with the WPA altogether, and let the members identify more closely with their state associations. A third group, perhaps impressed with the history of the WPA and the fine old names appearing in the early registers, hold out for union and a somewhat more elaborate structure to service the fast growing membership. And finally, there are those who are categorically opposed to participating in any organization west of the Rockies. To divide in two, or by states, to maintain the status quo, or to ignore the notion of regional participation at any level, these seem to be the most frequently mentioned possibilities. 通过对一系列钢筋混凝土双向偏压标准拄极限承载力的计算机模拟,分析了长细比、配筋率、相对偏心距等因素对钢筋混凝土双向偏压标准柱极限承载力的影响规律,将程序模拟的双向偏压标准柱极限承载力与倪克勤公式及我国现行规范公式计算的双向偏压标准柱极限承载力进行对比分析,考察了倪克勤公式及规范公式的计算效果和准确性。     

具有双对称截面的双轴加载薄壁楔形梁柱的性能分析

纵向加劲肋可以有效提高方形或矩形薄壁钢管混凝土柱的整体性能。主要讨论轴压下加劲方形短柱的非线性分析与设计。运用有限元程序ABAQUS进行非线性分析。关于荷载-位移曲线和极限强度的试验与分析结果具有良好的一致性。运用这个模型同时也对柱的性能进行了研究,讨论板的宽厚比限值和加劲肋刚度需求,以及运用现有规范预测加劲复合柱承载能力的可行性。     

卷边翼缘工形构件在压弯荷载作用下的稳定承载力设计理论

卷边工形截面构件作为一种高效型材,在弯矩与轴力共同作用下的破坏模型常常是伴随板件局部屈曲的整体失稳。利用板壳有限单元法,研究卷边工形截面构件在板件局部屈曲下的构件整体稳定承载力,建立其稳定承载力设计公式。首先,通过设计大量算例,研究了截面宽高比、腹板高厚比、翼缘宽厚比等截面参数对短柱承载性能的影响,其中考虑了板组之间屈曲的相关作用,获得了考虑板组局部屈曲特性的短柱稳定承载力相关公式。在短柱板件局部失稳承载力研究的基础上,计入构件长细比对长柱面内和面外稳定承载性能的影响,通过数值分析建立了卷边工形构件在压弯荷载作用下的稳定承载力设计公式。     

钢框架-中心支撑结构设计对比分析

在阐述了各国规范有关框架-中心支撑结构设计方法的基础上,对中国、美国和欧洲现行框架-中心支撑结构设计规范进行了分析和比较。分析可见,除JGJ99外,各国规范在进行框架横梁设计时,均考虑了V形和人字形钢支撑受压斜杆整体屈曲后,在横梁跨中产生不平衡竖向力对框架梁的不利影响。为了避免钢支撑破坏后结构倒塌,中国和美国相关规范人为地加强了框架-中心支撑体系中框架抗剪能力的比例,而该措施对框架-中心支撑体系是否能够真正起到防止整体结构倒塌的作用,尚存在一些争议。     

钢支撑抗震性能设计及机理探讨

从钢支撑设计承载力验算方法和钢支撑杆件长细比限值特征的角度,对中国、美国和欧洲现行框架一中心支撑结构设计规范进行了分析和比较。综合分析结果表明,我国现行规范的框架-中心支撑对支撑板件的宽厚比和长细比特征的限制较严格,并采用了支撑杆件的设计内力增大系数和强度降低系数来强化支撑抗震性能。有关研究结果表明有关普通中心支撑框架结构和特殊中心支撑框架结构在弹塑性阶段的抗震性能及其相关问题还有待于深入研究。
