School psychologists are generally not provided with the knowledge and skills to address both educational and psychosocial issues of Asian American and Pacific Islander students. The present study is the first of its kind in examining 36 independent (i.e., demographic, social, cultural, psychological) variables in association with four school outcomes (i.e., grade point average, absences, suspensions, and school infractions) with a large sample of Caucasian, Filipino, Native Hawaiian, Japanese, mixed/non-Hawaiian, and "other" Hawai'i high school students (N = 2,833). Given the relatively unique sample in question and the sheer number of variables, an exploratory approach was utilized with the goal of determining the most robust independent variables, with the unique inclusion of Hawaiian cultural identification. A cross-validation technique was used, whereby stepwise regressions were performed for each of two cross-validation samples; only common variables were retained in a final stepwise model for each of the four school outcomes. The results indicated that, remarkably, substance use accounted for the most variance (i.e., 8.4% -16.1 %) in the four school measures. Further analyses detailed the relationship, including the finding that smoking cigarettes regularly, accounted for the most variance compared to the other five substance use items. Further research and implications of the findings are discussed, including the need for prevention and intervention programs that incorporate substance use as a component, both within and outside of school environments. While concerns about the psychological effects of war are not new, only recently has systematic attention been paid to such problems among past and present military personnel. There is increasing recognition that mental health has serious implications for operational performance, retention, and compensation. Although little controlled research exists with this population, preliminary evidence suggests that psychological treatments for posttraumatic stress disorder may be beneficial, albeit less so than for civilian populations. This article reviews evidence for each of several psychological treatment stages: stabilization and engagement, psychoeducation, symptom management, prolonged exposure, cognitive restructuring, and relapse prevention, with particular reference to the clinical issues raised by military personnel. Students (N = 167) from the 4th, 8th, and 11th grades sorted meals, listed on individual cards, according to whether they would or would not eat them. Students were told to either consider eating the meals at home or at school. Forty-two different meals were selected from a pool of unique meals created by students in a previous study. The meals differed in head component, the presence or absence of vegetables, and the number of different foodstuffs. On average, approximately half of the meals were deemed acceptable, but older students accepted more meals than younger ones, boys accepted more meals than girls, and meals to be consumed at home were accepted more than those to be consumed at school. In addition, students tended to accept meals comprised of a small number of foodstuffs that did not contain vegetables. The also chose more meat-based meals over those containing fish or soup. These results suggest that students have rather unique food preferences that do not correspond well with nutritional standards. In order to address this problem we recommended that students be given more good choices in the school cafeteria through the introduction of a two-meal system and salad bars.  相似文献

This study examined how change in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms relates to change in quality of life. The sample consisted of 325 male Vietnam veterans with chronic PTSD who participated in a randomized trial of group psychotherapy. Latent growth modeling was used to test for synchronous effects of PTSD symptom change on psychosocial and physical health-related quality of life within the same time period and lagged effects of initial PTSD symptom change on later change in quality of life. PTSD symptoms were associated with reduced quality of life before treatment. There were synchronous effects of symptom change on change in quality of life but no significant lagged effects. 在信息作战条件下,军事地理信息系统(MGIS)作为作战指挥自动化、数字化战场和现代武器系统的战场地理环境平台备受世界各国的重视。美国投入了大量人力、物力和财力先后研制并使用了地形分析系统等一系列应用系统,目前正着手研制地理影像情报综合管理系统(TPED)和地理影像与地理空间信息系统。我国的MGIS起步较晚,但发展很快,已成功地研制出了第一个具有自主版权的MGIS工具软件。该软件采用层次化体系结构和面向对象的设计方法,具有功能齐全、结构紧密、安全性好等特点。文章在分析国内外MGIS的基础上,着重介绍了军事地理信息系统软件的研制特点,并对军事地理信息系统进一步发展要解决的若干问题进行了探讨。  相似文献

为了解决我国水中兵器传统的仿真系统,局限于某些参数的数学仿真和部分半实物仿真,没有实现系统化、可视化,实时化,文章提出一种采用高层体系结构(HLA)作为分布交互的仿真体系框架,通过对水中兵器对抗系统仿真建模,解决了不同仿真应用之间的集成问题,较好地满足仿真系统的可视化、可操作性、强实时性及强交互性等要求。该仿真系统可以为水中兵器作战研究和武器装备论证提供仿真试验环境,检验装备各项战略战术指标,并为装备研制和战略战术决策提供依据,具有很高的实用价值。  相似文献
