Planning in Sub-Saharan Africa owes much to the colonial legacies that inform the shape and composition of African urban spaces and places. This applies to legislation, institutional systems and planning education. In 2008, the Association of African Planning Schools AAPSs embarked on a 3-year initiative on the revitalisation of planning education in Africa, funded by the Rockefeller Foundation. The aim of the project was to propose ways through which the training of urban planners can be more responsive to the special circumstances of African urbanisation. In this article, the authors examine how the internal audit function maintains its legitimacy when enterprise resource planning systems are introduced. This work centers on an in-depth case study of a multinational bank and finds that enterprise resource planning systems impose an institutional logic of control based on interlinked assumptions. The energy planning of power sector constitutes a multifaceted challenge for policy makers, incorporating a variety of economic, technological, environmental, political and social aspects in order to ensure the unhindered equilibrium between electricity demand and electricity supply. This paper presents a deterministic bottom-up Mixed Integer Linear Programming model for the long-term energy planning of national power supply systems, having special focus and modeling effort on the peculiar case of Greece. It is a least cost optimization based model being expanded and enhanced with the integration of electric interconnections and the evident participation of environmental dimension. Its superstructure consists of multiple mathematical expressions representing power demand patterns, technical constraints, operation rules, penetration potential of energy sources, economic aspects, technological availability, environmental obligations and other sectoral targets and commitments applying in the electricity supply field. Its main contribution lies on the holistic methodological approach adopted, concerning the discrete electric systems of mainland and insular areas in Greece by proposing a novel way of simulating the potentiality of their submarine interconnection. The present model is applied on a real case study concerning the Greek electricity planning problem for the period 2014–2024, through the elaboration of two alternative evolution scenarios. The underlying objective is multifarious: (a) to deliver the portfolio of new capacity investments, the fuel mix trend, the penetration of renewable energy sources and the progress of achieving country׳s commitments and targets, and (b) to investigate and highlight the potential economic, energy and environmental benefits arising from the electrical interconnection of Greek islands to the main continental power system. 相似文献

A procedure for planning and resources’ management in intermodal terminals is presented. It integrates Timed Petri Nets (TPNs) and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and consists of three steps: the terminal modeling via TPNs to model the regular behavior; the evaluation of whether the current configuration may cope with increased freight flows; if not, the analysis by cross-efficiency DEA of alternative planning solutions. The procedure provides the decision maker with number, capacity, and schedule of resources to tackle the flows increase. Self-regulation in driving has primarily been studied as a precursor to driving cessation in older people, who minimise driving risk and compensate for physical and cognitive decline by avoiding driving in challenging circumstances, e.g. poor weather conditions, in the dark and at busy times. This research explores whether other demographic groups of drivers adopt self-regulatory behaviours and examines the effects of affective and instrumental attitudes on self-regulation across the lifespan. Quantitative data were collected from 395 drivers. Women were significantly more likely than men to engage in self-regulation, and to be negatively influenced by their emotions (affective attitude). A quadratic effect of age on self-regulation was determined such that younger and older drivers reported higher scores for self-regulation than middle-years’ drivers. However, this effect was affected by experience such that when experience was controlled for, self-regulation increased with age. Nevertheless, anxious driving style and negative affective attitude were independent predictors of self-regulation behaviours. Results suggest that self-regulation behaviours are present across the driving lifespan and may occur as a result of driving anxiety or low confidence rather than as an effect of ageing. 相似文献

Exploring the significant variables related to specific types of crashes is vitally important in the planning stage of a transportation network. This paper aims to identify and examine important variables associated with total crashes and severe crashes per traffic analysis zone (TAZ) in four counties of the state of Florida by applying nonparametric statistical techniques such as data mining and random forest. The intention of investigating these factors in such aggregate level analysis is to incorporate proactive safety measures in transportation planning. Total and severe crashes per TAZ were modeled to provide predictive decision trees. The variables which carried higher weight of importance for total crashes per TAZ were – total number of intersections per TAZ, airport trip productions, light truck productions, and total roadway segment length with 35 mph posted speed limit. The other significant variables identified for total crashes were total roadway length with 15 mph posted speed limit, total roadway length with 65 mph posted speed limit, and non-home based work productions. For severe crashes, total number of intersections per TAZ, light truck productions, total roadway length with 35 mph posted speed limit, and total roadway length with 65 mph posted speed limit were among the significant variables.
