Urban sustainable development and the challenge of French metropolitan strategies

This article focuses on some salient issues of urban sustainable development in France, specifically with regard to six urban agglomerations: Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon, Montpellier, Nantes and Toulouse. The reticular dimension of these issues is analysed with reference to the ways a plurality of actors imagine, project and realize the construction of cities, rather than through sectoral points of view. This relational approach is divided according to a triple focus in which we successively address: firstly, the state of Sustainable Development (SD) policies in the six major cities, in terms of contents and conception; secondly, their implementation from the perspective of instruments; and finally, the circuits of their realization. Thus, urban SD appears within a (locally variable) set of linkages that place these issues firmly in areas of interrelations and intersections.     

Social diversity and construction era of neighborhoods with traditional design features: Portland and Atlanta compared

This paper compares neighborhoods with more traditional features in two very different cities. As expected, in Portland the majority are socially diverse and in Atlanta they are low‐income. However, in both cities about a quarter are high‐income. In Atlanta the latter are located in older neighborhoods, whereas in Portland they are also in areas combining newer and older housing. A return to valuing a more traditional urbanism may explain the signs of revitalized central cities in both places. Our findings, however, indicate it may be accompanied by the relocation of low‐income neighborhoods to areas where activities are not readily accessible.

松花江是北方重要河流,流域自然环境形成了滨江城市生长的独特地理背景,表现出鲜明的地方特色,流域文化是城市文化特色的本源。吉林、哈尔滨、佳木斯都是松花江干流沿岸以＂江城＂闻名的综合性城市,它们所处的地理位置及城水关系不同,特点鲜明。本文通过对其滨水空间自然景观元素、人工景观元素及文化景观元素进行比较,研究寒地滨水城市水景观环境之间的差异,从这些差异中提炼城市景观特质,加以分析、总结,提出松花江流域城市水域空间景观优化策略。

本文对成都地区一应用水平埋管土壤源热泵的农村小型公共建筑的空调系统运行能效及室内热环境进行现场测试,并采用热舒适适应性评价指标评价热环境,判断空调系统是否节能运行,最后对农村推广该技术提出了建议。     

还城市以“呼吸”——基于中国城市生态品质现状的再思考

文章从中国当前的城市矛盾切入,简述快速城市化导致的城市生态环境问题,由此引出本文的核心论点:用以往几何式的"单一指标"考量城市生态建设是否真实合理?应当如何做出调整,重新寻找中国生态城市的出路,提出不同于传统意义上对于城市生态品质的衡量体系和评价标准。

Strategies in environmental education

The causes of environmental changes, including climate, are neither fully understood nor identified, nor do scientists agree about their nature. Yet, their impact is such that action cannot be delayed. This involves spreading public awareness through environmental education and sensitization. Hence a need to reach, to educate the poorly informed public at large. With the classroom as the base, “town meetings” and eco‐tourism may constitute potentially useful approaches towards that goal.     

Climate change: the views of forestry students in a Greek university

The trend to global warming is one of the most important problems of our time. This paper reports the findings of self‐management questionnaires, in regard to views held on the issue of climate change by the students of the Department of Forestry and Management of the Environment and Natural Resources of the Democritus University of Thrace.
