Energy sector companies operate in a complex environment characterized by restrictive regulations, increasing competition, geopolitical influences and changing stakeholder expectations. To be able to respond dynamically to these changes, ensuring open, automated communication and real-time operation of the energy system, managers need to transform companies digitally. While the digital transformation of energy companies is inevitable, limited access to specific resources can slow down or, in extreme cases, prevent the process of digitalization. Based on studies that combine the resource-based view and the digital transformation concept this paper aims to explain how human, technological, financial, ICT and infrastructure resources impact digital transformation of the energy company sector. Using structural equation modeling to analyze data collected from 110 energy companies, the study provides evidence of the links between organizational resources and digital transformation. This research contributes to a better understanding of the importance of soft aspects of management during digital change, that is digital transformation readiness, which plays a mediating role between organizational resources and digital transformation. In addition, the results reveal the influence of technological and financial resources on readiness for digital transformation, and suggest that there is no statistically significant relationship between ICT and infrastructure resources and digital transformation readiness. The role of digital transformation readiness recognized in the study has specific practical implications, as it suggests to management practitioners that a perspective on soft aspects, including organizational culture and governance, can accelerate and enhance digital transformation. 相似文献

In a changed scenario, characterized by great attention to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors, few industries feel the pressure more than utilities. The paper investigates, by employing a Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model, whether including ESG factors increases the efficiency of utilities companies and whether banks, by considering ESG ratings when selecting utilities companies, succeed in optimizing their portfolio. Our findings signal that ESG factors neither improve utilities efficiency nor constitute a useful complementary criterion for credit lending managers, provide useful suggestions for managers, regulators and academics. 相似文献

An increasing number of companies have implemented digital platforms to attract complementors who create innovations on the platform. Establishing such digital platforms is a challenge for incumbent companies because they lack related experience and capabilities. In particular, boundary resources that are the interface between the platform and complementors need to be well-designed to attract complementors and keep them engaged. We propose that lead complementor involvement helps incumbent companies to improve the design of the platform boundary resources. In a multi-year action research study, we established lead complementor involvement in the boundary resource design of a digital platform for automotive onboard apps at the BMW Group and evaluated how boundary resources improved. Along three episodes, we illustrate that lead complementor involvement was effective and we summarise our findings in four propositions: (1) lead complementor involvement facilitates platform emergence for incumbent companies by enhancing boundary resource design, (2) lead complementor involvement is more efficient in higher platform layers, (3) lead complementor involvement is facilitated by an increase of intensity and frequency of interactions between complementors and platform owner and (4) establishing a complementor community helps to continuously identify opportunities for lead complementor involvement. We contribute to the information systems literature on platform emergence and design by focusing on the process of designing boundary resources and by considering the heterogeneity of complementors.
