On the specific reactivity of platinum segregated layers on Pt80X20 (111) (X= Ni,Co, Fe) alloys

The influence of alloying of Pt with 20 at.% of Ni, Co and Fe has been studied in the hydrogenation of 1,3 butadiene. Iron induces the more important modifications, with both higher activity and selectivity. The results are discussed in terms of the surface segregation, the local order in surface and the electronic properties measured by photoemission of core levels.     

Effects of α‐form or β‐form nuclei on polymorphic crystalline morphology of poly(butylene adipate)

The effects of α‐form and β‐form nuclei on polymorphic morphology of poly(butylene adipate) (PBA) upon recrystallization from the molten state up to various T_max values were examined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD) and polarized light microscopy (PLM). In this study, PBA with complex melting and polymorphism behaviour was used as a model for examining different types and extents of residual nuclei. As the PBA initially containing the sole α‐crystal was brought to a molten state of various T_max, the extents of trace α‐form crystal nuclei varied and were dependent on T_max. Furthermore, it did not matter whether, initially, the PBA contained α‐ or β‐form crystals (or both) because only a single type of α‐nuclei could be left upon treatment to the molten liquid state at T_max. Therefore, only the α‐crystal in PBA had ‘memory capacity’ in the molten liquid state while the β‐crystal did not. This was so because the latter had been completely transformed into the solid state prior to being heated into a liquid. PBA crystallized before α‐nuclei could be packed into α‐crystal, regardless of the crystallization temperature (T_c). For recrystallization from molten PBA without any nuclei, the crystalline polymorphism was correspondingly influenced by T_c. Copyright © 2005 Society of Chemical Industry

Effect of Stress State on Growth of Interfacial Intermetallic Compounds Between Sn-Ag-Cu Solder and Cu Substrates Coated with Electroless Ni Immersion Au

Excessive intermetallic compound (IMC) growth in solder joints will significantly decrease the reliability of the joints. IMC growth is known to be influenced by numerous factors during the component fabrication process and in service. It is reported that, other than temperature and holding time, stress can also influence the IMC growth behavior. However, no existing method can be used to study the effect of stress state on IMC growth in a controlled manner. This paper presents a novel method to study the effect of stress on interfacial IMC growth between Sn-Ag-Cu solder and a Cu substrate coated with electroless Ni immersion Au (ENIG). A C-ring was used and in-plane bending induced tensile and compressive stresses were applied by tightening the C-ring. Results revealed that in-plane compressive stress led to faster IMC growth as compared with in-plane tensile stress.

总结了浆砌石应用的历史,介绍了浆砌石的结构特性和施工工艺,从造价方面、防渗效果及施工三方面分析了浆砌石衬砌主要存在的问题,并提出了相应的解决对策,指出浆砌石衬砌在渠道防渗应用中应控制施工质量,从而更好地提高防渗效果。     

Computer simulation of the effective double layer occurring on a catalyst surface under electro-chemical promotion conditions

In this work, the structural and energetic properties of two typical catalytic surfaces, Na/Pt(111) and O/Pt(111), are studied by means of quantum mechanical calculations and Monte Carlo Grand Canonical simulations. The simulations were performed with electrostatic potentials at different truncation schemes. In order to elucidate the modification of catalyst surfaces produced by the backspillover of ionic species onto Pt(111), the electrostatic field at the interface due to the electric double layer was also analyzed.     

Towards a new definition of EPOC parameters for anionic electrochemical catalysts: case of propene combustion

The electrochemical promotion of catalysis (EPOC) of propene combustion was investigated using Pt sputtered thin film on an O²⁻ conductor, 8 mol% Y₂O₃-stabilized-ZrO₂ (YSZ). In order to separate the influence of the thermal migration of the O²⁻ oxide ions from the electrolyte to the catalyst surface and the impact of an electrical polarization on the catalytic activity, several light-off experiments (cool down and heat up procedures) were successively performed under different polarizations, i.e. OCV, +2 and −2 V. These experiments have clearly shown that the presence of O²⁻ (thermally or electrochemically induced) inhibits the catalytic activity of the platinum for the propene deep oxidation. These results demonstrate the importance to define a normalized rate enhancement ratio, ρ _n , from a reference value of the catalytic rate corresponding to a Pt surface state free of O²⁻ ions.

Anion Sensing Porphyrin Functionalized Nanoparticles

Disulfide and dithiocarbamate functionalized porphyrins have been synthesized and used as protecting ligands for gold nanoparticle formation either via ligand substitution reactions or by direct synthesis. These nanoparticles have been shown to recognize anions via changes in the absorbance spectrum of the surface adsorbed porphyrin moieties. Association constants, derived from quantitative titrations, indicate a remarkable surface enhancement effect where the surface bound porphyrins bind anions much more strongly than the free receptor in solution.
