In Vitro Characterization of Human CD24hiCD38hi Regulatory B Cells Shows CD9 Is Not a Stable Breg Cell Marker

Regulatory B (Breg) cells are endowed with immune suppressive functions. Various human and murine Breg subtypes have been reported. While interleukin (IL)-10 intracellular staining remains the most reliable way to identify Breg cells, this technique hinders further essential functional studies. Recent findings suggest that CD9 is an effective surface marker of murine IL-10 competent Breg cells. However, the stability of CD9 and its relevance as a unique marker for human Breg cells, which have been widely characterized as CD24^hiCD38^hi, have not been investigated. Here, we demonstrate that CD9 expression is sensitive to in vitro B cell stimulations. CD9 expression could either be re-expressed or downregulated in purified CD9-negative B cells and CD9-positive B cells, respectively. We found no significant differences in the Breg differentiation capacity of the CD9-negative and CD9-positive B cells. Furthermore, CD9-positive B cells co-express CD40 and CD86, suggesting their nature as B cell activation or co-stimulatory molecules, rather than regulatory ones. Therefore, we report the relatively unstable CD9 as a distinct surface molecule, indicating the need for further research for a more reliable marker to purify human Breg cells.

应用超显微硬度计测定１Ｃｒ１８Ｎｉ９Ｔｉ奥氏体不锈钢氮离子注入层的硬度，并用Ａｕｇｅｒ电子能谱仪（ＡＥＳ）及高精度轮廓仪测定氮离子注入层氮浓度分布及深度．结果表明：在９０ｋｅＶ，３ｘ１０~１７Ｎ＋／ｃｍ~２注入时．共注入层深度为０．１８μｍ、用１ｍＮ载荷侧得本征硬度ＨＶ为３．４７ＧＰａ，比非注入态表面硬度提高三倍之多，合理的试验载荷应≤ｌｍＮ（０．１ｇ）．     

Ti9Al合金的氢塑性效应

采用真空自耗电弧炉熔炼制备Ti9Al合金，通过渗氢处理显著提高氢含量，在凸轮塑性试验机ЧПИ-2上以10mm／min的速度进行热模拟试验。研究发现：氢可以降低Ti9Al合金的相变温度，扩大α β区的温度范围；氢作为卢稳定剂会妨碍或完全抑制以Ti3Al为基的α2相的析出；钛合金的氢合金化可促使卢相在更低温度下稳定化，明显地提高了Ti9Al合金塑性。     

Sex pheromone components of the geometrid mothsLobophora nivigerata andEpirrhoe sperryi

3Z,6Z,9Z-Nonadecatriene (3Z,6Z,9Z-19:H; other abbreviations follow the same pattern) has been identified as a female sex pheromone component of the geometrid mothEpirrhoe sperryi (H.). 3Z,6Z,9Z-18:H and 6Z,9Z-19:H were also identified in pheromone gland extracts but had no apparent biological activity. 3Z,6Z,9Z-21:H was tentatively identified as a female sex pheromone component of a second geometrid species,Lobophora nivigerata (Wlk.). Attraction of male moths to this compound was strongly synergized by the addition of small amounts of 6Z,9Z-21:H to lures.Issued as NRC No. 32478.     

Modélisation d'un four de calcination du coke de pétrole: II. Simulation du procédé

A one-dimensional steady-state mathematical model has been developed to simulate the process of calcination of petroleum coke in a rotary kiln. A simulation is made to reproduce the operating conditions prevailing during a normal working day, in order to validate the model, and to study the effects of the main process control variables. It has been found that of the energy provided by combustion, 59.5 % comes from hydrogen, 14.6 % from the carbon of the coke bed, 13.8 % from coke dust, 11.3 % from methane and 0.8 % from tar. A comparison with existing models is made to identify eventual similarities between the various kilns under study. It appears that maximum coke temperature occurs at 45 to 55 % of kiln length, while volatile matters evolution takes place between 5 and 60 % of kiln length, measured from feed end.     

Specificity of the pheromone system ofAdoxophyes orana andClepsis spectrana

The pheromone system of the summer fruit tortrix mothAdoxophyes orana (Fischer von Röslerstamm) consists of a mixture ofcis-9- andcis-11-tetradecen-1-ol acetate (cis-9- andcis-11-TDA, respectively) in a ratio of 9:1. Substitution of one or both of these compounds by related unsaturated acetates reduced the attractancy. Onlycis-11-TDA could be replaced bycis-11-tridecen-1-ol acetate (cis-11-TriDA), although the 9:1 mixture ofcis-9-TDA andcis-11-TriDA was less attractive in the field than the pheromone system itself. The major component of the pheromone system of the leaf rollerClepsis spectrana (Treitschke)(cis-9-TDA:cis-11-TDA=1:9) could also be replaced bycis-11-TriDA, again with some reduction in attractancy.     

Sex pheromone specificity as a reproductive isolating mechanism among the sibling speciesArchips argyrospilus andA. mortuanus and other sympatric tortricine moths (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae)

MaleArchips argyrospilus (Walker) were maximally attracted to a 60404200 admixture of (Z)-11-tetradecenyl, (E)-11-tetradecenyl, (Z)-9-tetradecenyl and dodecyl acetates. The identification of (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate, in addition to the other 3 components reported previously, is the first report of a 4-component pheromone system in moths.Archips mortuanus Kearfoot, a sibling species, was maximally attracted to a blend of the same components, but in a 90101 mix of the tetradecenyl acetates. Among a number of tortricine moths that co-occur on apples and other hosts in New York, British Columbia, and elsewhere, differences in diel rhythms of attraction and seasonal distribution are insufficient to maintain reproductive isolation. Although the attractant systems of these species often possess components in common, males are maximally attracted to a speciesspecific blend. In tortricine moths attraction specificity appears to be a paramount mechanism for species partitioning.     

Simple and economic syntheses of some (Z)-7- and (Z)-9-alkenyl acetates,and of (E,Z)-7,9-dodecadien-1-yl acetate,the sex pheromone of the European grapevine moth,using aleuritic acid as a common starting material

Short syntheses of (Z)-7-dodecen-1-yl acetate, (Z)-7-tetradecen-1-yl acetate, (Z)-9-dodecen-1-yl acetate, and (Z)-9-tetradecen-1-yl acetate from 7-hydroxyheptanal and 9-oxononanoic acid precursors obtained by oxidative cleavage of easily available aleuritic acid are reported. The key step in these syntheses is a stereoselective Wittig reaction between aldehyde and alkyl-phosphonium salt. Wittig-Horner type reaction of 7-hydroxyheptanal and diethyl cyanomethylphosphonate gave the ,-unsaturated nitrile derivative which after protection of the hydroxyl group was reduced to the corresponding aldehyde. Wittig reaction of the latter, followed by acetylation, completed the synthesis of (E,Z)-7,9-dodecadien-1-yl acetate, the sex pheromone of the European grapevine mothLobesia botrana Schiff.     

Variation in relative quantities of airborne sex pheromone components from individual femaleEphestia cautella (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae)

The airborne sex pheromone components (Z,E)-9,12-tetradeca-dien-1-yl acetate and (Z)-9-tetradecen-1-y1 acetate from single calling females ofEphestia cautella (Walker) were trapped within glass capillary tubes and were measured by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Broad and similar distributions of relative quantities were found for a laboratory strain and three Australian field strains, and means differed strongly from those reported previously for this species. The overall mean proportion of the two components found for Australian females was 8812. The composition in individuals ranged from 6327 to 973. The proportions for individuals appeared to vary slightly in a random fashion from day to day, and proportions for first-generation progeny were influenced by the maternal blend.Author order in this paper is alphabetical
