Abstract

The present paper examines the possibility of evaluating the elastic constants of specially orthotropic rectangular thin plates from the measured natural frequencies of cantilever plates. An expression is developed for orthotropic rectangular thin cantilever plates to determine natural frequencies, and its validity is demonstrated through finite element analysis as well as using published test results.  相似文献

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to investigate penetration characteristics, to clarify welding phenomena and to develop high quality welding procedures in bead on plate welding of type 304 austenitic stainless steel plates with a 10 kW fibre laser beam. The penetration depth reached 18 mm at the maximum at 5 mm s?1. At 50 mm s?1 or lower welding speeds, however, porosity was generated at any fibre laser spot diameter. On the other hand, at 100 mm s?1 or higher welding speeds, underfilling and humping weld beads were formed under the conventionally and tightly focused conditions respectively. The generation of spatters was influenced mainly by a strong shear force of a laser induced plume and was greatly reduced by controlling direction of the plume blowing out of a keyhole inlet. The humping formation was dependent upon several dynamic or static factors, such as melt volume above the surface, strong melt flow to the rear molten pool on the top surface, solidification rate and narrow molten pool width and corresponding high surface tension. Its suppression was effective by producing a wider weld bead width under the defocused laser beam conditions or reduction of melt volume out of keyhole inlet under the full penetration welding conditions. Concerning porosity, X-ray transmission in situ observation images demonstrated that pores were formed not only from the tip of the keyhole but also at the middle part because of high power density. The keyhole behaviour was stabilised using a nitrogen shielding gas, resulting in porosity prevention. Consequently, to produce high quality welds in 10 kW high power fibre laser welding, the reduction procedures of welding defects were required on the basis of understanding their formation mechanism, and 10 kW fibre laser power could produce sound deeply penetrated welds of 18 mm depth in a nitrogen shielding gas.  相似文献

Abstract

A microstructural study of creep failure in grade 91 weld metal has revealed two primary modes of creep failure. In addition to creep fractures along columnar grain boundaries (typical of weld metal creep failure), creep fractures were also found along creep-weak 'white bands' which had formed at the inter-bead boundaries. The white-band regions consisted of material where the M23C6 carbides had dissolved during creep testing; the loss of carbides had allowed recrystallisation of the martensitic structure to ferrite and consequently this material was much softer than the bulk weld metal. The element mapping over the weld metal by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy demonstrated that there was significant inhomogeneity in the distribution of certain elements, most significantly, chromium. This inhomogeneity resulted in strong activity gradients in carbon (even though the carbon concentration was homogeneous following welding) resulting in carbon loss from the alloy-depleted regions, the associated dissolution of carbides and the recrystallisation that accompanied this, and thus the poor mechanical properties which resulted in creep failure.  相似文献

Abstract

Resistance spot weldability is defined as the acceptable welding current ranges as determined by the weld lobe in resistance spot welding. Nowadays many studies have focused on the effect of welding current and welding time under constant electrode force on the weld quality and weldability. There is little research on the influence of variable electrode force on the weld quality and weldability because of the difficulty in controlling variable electrode force using pneumatic gun. In the present study, first, the influence of three stages of electrode force, including squeeze force, welding force and forging force, on the quality of welds is analysed. Then a design of experiment approach is applied to analyse the influence of the three stages of electrode force on welding quality and thus to obtain optimum parameter of variable electrode force by controlling the electrode force with servo gun. The comparisons of tensile shear strength, nugget size, weld lobe width and wear rate of electrode tip between variable force and constant force are carried out. The results show that the weld quality and weldability can be increased evidently using optimum parameter of variable electrode force without accelerating the electrode wear rate.  相似文献

Abstract

Semisolid metal processing with the cooling plate technique is one of the key technologies for producing advanced materials. The multitude of cast iron families with their wide range of mechanical properties and relatively low costs combined with the advantage of semisolid processing, give the merit of producing high quality cast components from cast iron. This research is based on high speed steel with high vanadium and carbon contents, which has not been studied enough. The authors researched the effect of semisolid casting with the cooling plate technique on microstructures and properties, wear resistance and mechanical properties, for example, hardness and tensile stress, of this alloy.  相似文献

Abstract

Short alumina fibre and in situ Mg2Si particle reinforced hybrid composites were fabricated by infiltration with the molten magnesium alloy into the preforms consisting of the fibres having Si particles attached to their surfaces. P or CaF2 particles were used as the refiners of the Mg2Si particles. All of Si particles reacted with the Mg alloy and melt to form Mg2Si particles. As the melting temperature decreased or the cooling rate after the infiltration increased, the Mg2Si particles became finer. The introduction of P or CaF2 further promoted the refinement of the Mg2Si particles. When the composite was fabricated by squeeze casting in the permanent mould, fine Mg2 Si particles with a grain size of ~5 μm were formed regardless of introducing the refiners due to the rapid solidification. The strength of the hybrid composites was higher than that of the conventional fibre reinforced composite at both room temperature and high temperature.  相似文献

Abstract

Systematic extrusion studies have been carried out on aluminium alloy 2124/SiCp metal matrix composites. Effects of various extrusion process parameters, such as die design, ram speed, extrusion ratio, reheat temperature, and lubrication, on the pressure requirement and surface quality of the as extruded circular rods have been investigated. Different volume fractions of SiC particles (10, 15, and 20 vol.-%) were used for the synthesis of metal matrix composite billets. These composites were synthesised using two different techniques, namely, stir casting and powder metallurgy. These billets were then hot extruded on a laboratory scale 500 ton vertical hydraulic press. The significance of specially designed dish shaped dies, avoiding the dead metal zone, has also been highlighted. The results indicated that the best extrusion was possible when powder metallurgical processed billets were extruded. Volume fraction analysis of ceramic reinforcement in the extruded rod (typically 2 m long) and in the extruded discard showed no appreciable backward migration of these particles during extrusion.  相似文献

Abstract

A simple approach to modelling the consolidation of matrix coated fibre composites is presented. It employs an existing porous material constitutive model for monolithic materials. It is argued that in the consolidation of metal coated SiC fibres, the deformation primarily occurs in an outer layer of the fibre coating, and the internal core remains undeformed, largely because of the generally hydrostatic compressive loading, and because of the incompressible nature of the material in creep. The consolidation process is therefore not vastly different to that occurs for monolithic metal fibres, and similar equations can therefore be used for the composite consolidation. The constitutive equations have been implemented into general purpose non-linear finite element software within a large deformation formulation by means of two different user subroutines, one providing a general implementation, and the other a cpu time efficient approach. The manufacture and testing of SiC continuous fibre, Ti-6Al-4V metal matrix composite specimens is described and the results of the tests compared with the model calculations, showing that good agreement can be achieved with a simple model. The dependence of volume fraction of fibres and temperature can be introduced empirically through the specification of just two material constants. The model is therefore useful in the development of consolidation processes.  相似文献

Abstract

The impact of austenite deformation in the intercritical range on the rate of transformation in continuous cooling to ferrite, pearlite, bainite or martensite has been studied. The austenite associated with the rolled ferrite is much higher in carbon content, which does not influence the pearlite transformation but retards bainite and martensite. Furthermore, in comparison with rolling of stable austenite the increased strain hardening of the intercritically cooled austenite accelerates the formation of ferrite and pearlite (+ 10–30°C) and refines them but retards the bainite and martensite transformations (?20–40°C). At the intermediate cooling rate near 16 K s?1, these several influences combined with near doubling of the ferrite production give rise to the suppression of bainite formation and to maximum increased delay of martensite start.  相似文献
