Morphological characterization of attapulgite/poly(methyl methacrylate) particles prepared by soapless emulsion polymerization

BACKGROUND: The synthesis of core–shell inorganic/polymer nanocomposites, in which the polymer shell determines the chemical properties and the interaction with the environment, whereas their physical properties are governed by both the size and shape of the inorganic core and the surrounding organic layer, is an area of increasing research activity. RESULTS: Core–shell and bead–string shaped attapulgite/poly(methyl methacrylate) (ATP/PMMA) nanocomposite particles were prepared by soapless emulsion polymerization in an aqueous suspension of attapulgite organically modified with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide. CONCLUSION: Transmission electron microscopy analysis results showed that the amounts of the monomer added had no influence on the morphologies of the ATP/PMMA particles. The morphologies only depended on the length/diameter ratio of the attapulgite fibrillar single crystal used. Long ATP needles formed the bead–string structure while short ATP needles formed the core–shell structure. Copyright © 2007 Society of Chemical Industry

2‐Hydroxyethylmethacrylate carrying uniform porous particles: preparation and electron microscopy

Uniform macroporous particles carrying hydroxyl groups have been obtained in the size range 3–11.5 µm by seeded polymerization. For this purpose, uniform polystyrene particles in the size range 1.9–6.2 µm were used as seeds. The seed particles were successively swollen by dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and a monomer mixture comprising styrene, 2‐hydroxyethylmethacrylate (HEMA) and a crosslinker. Two different crosslinkers, divinylbenzene (DVB) and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA), were tested. Size distribution properties together with bulk and surface structures of the particles have been characterized by both scanning and transmission electron microscopy. While EGDMA provides uniform particles with a non‐porous surface, DVB produces uniform particles having a highly porous surface and interior. The comparison of FTIR and FTIR‐DRS spectra shows that the HEMA concentration is higher on the particle surface than within the particle interior. Seed latex size and monomer/seed latex ratios are identified as the most important variables affecting the final particles. Different seed latexes have been tried; the result is that highly macroporous particles with a sponge‐like pore structure both on the surface and in the particle interior have been obtained by use of the seed latex with the largest particles and the lowest molecular weight. An increase in the HEMA feed concentration leads to final particles with a non‐porous surface and a crater‐like porosity in the particle interior. The average pore size significantly decreases with increasing DBP/seed latex and monomer/seed latex ratios. © 2001 Society of Chemical Industry

高强度高耐水强化木地板安装用胶粘剂的研制

摘 要 利用有机硅具有耐水性、耐候性、耐低温性，采用半连续乳液聚合法制备有机硅、丙烯酸酯、醋酸乙烯酯等不饱和单体共聚乳液。通过实验系统地考察了固含量、单体、乳化剂、聚合方式、加料速度等对乳液聚合的影响。采用该工艺制备出了一种稳定性好、粘接力强、耐水性好的木材用高固含量胶粘剂。     

VAC-BA-MAA三元乳液共聚制人造花底胶

本文论述了VAC－BA－MAA为混合单体三元共聚制取乳液，乳液加增稠剂配制成胶，该胶手感柔软，光泽度高，可作人造花底胶使用。     

丙烯酸乳液压敏胶的研制

本文研制的丙烯酸乳液压敏胶采用了组成上只有软单体和官能改性单体的三元共聚体系，性能达到国内同等产品水平．文中在介绍了实验方法后，定性讨论了各种因素如预乳液乳化结果，乳化剂种类、单体种类、反应温度、后处理剂等对压敏胶性能的影响。     

乳化剂理论及其选择研究

文章阐述了乳化炸药中乳化工艺及乳化剂作用的物理化学原理。基于对乳化剂的实验研究，为有效乳化和长贮安定，对乳化剂的选择提出几点看法，特别讨论了混合乳化剂的重要意义。     

The Treatment of Weathered Crude Oil in Kuwait

During the Gulf War about 740 oil wells were blown up by the Iraqi forces, and the unburnt oil flooded from these wells to form oil lakes. This resulted in one of the largest oil slicks in the world, causing serious damage to the marine life in the Gulf region. The oil which is exposed to atmospheric weather over a period is called 'weathered crude oil feed stock', and it is important to treat this oil not only from the economical point of view but also to consider the environmental pollution which is created. The Government of Kuwait, represented by Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has made its best attempts to treat this oil, and most of the oil lakes have now been cleared. The objective of this study is to report and evaluate different treatment methods and measures to control and manage these oil lakes.
