This study attempts to analyze the performances of evaporator coils with complex refrigerant circuitry using a distributed simulation model, which has three elements: branch, tube and control volume. The governing equations for a control volume are presented in the paper together with the computer simulation procedure for branches, tubes and control volumes of a coil. The model predictions on four test coils are validated with experimental data collected under different airflow conditions using R134a as a refrigerant. Using this model, the heat transfer and fluid flow characteristics of the coils are studied. The study shows that while the thermal resistance of refrigerant side is comparable to that of airside, the coil comprehensive performance can be improved by changing the refrigerant mass velocity along the flow path. Compared with a common coil, using a complex refrigerant circuitry arrangement where the refrigerant circuits are properly branched or joined may reduce the heat transfer area by around 5% in coil design. A guideline is proposed for the refrigerant circuitry arrangements to improve the coil performance. 相似文献

A numerical model is developed to simulate the transient behaviour of a counter-flow water cooling evaporator controlled by a thermostatic expansion valve (TEV) in a vapour compression refrigeration system. The liquid–vapour slip in the two-phase region of the evaporator is accounted for by a void fraction model (VFM). The thermal capacitance of the TEV is included in the analysis. For the purpose of comparison with predictions of the model, experimental data available are filtered to obtain the best estimate of the mean variation of the liquid–vapour transition plane. The predictions are in good trend-wise agreement with the filtered experimental data. The results of the transient simulations demonstrate the dependence of the stability of the evaporator–TEV system on the characteristics of the TEV, the thermal capacitance of the bulb, thermal conductance between the bulb and wall and on the nature of the input disturbance. 相似文献

The development of control algorithms for refrigeration systems requires models capable of simulating transient behavior with sensible computational time and effort. The most pronounced dynamics in these systems are found in the condenser and the evaporator, especially the transient behavior of the evaporator is of great importance when designing and tuning controllers for refrigeration systems. Various so called moving boundary models were developed for capturing these dynamics and showed to cover the important characteristics. A factor that has significant influence on the time constant and nonlinear behavior of a system is the amount of refrigerant charge in the evaporator which is considerably reduced when microchannel heat exchangers are utilized. Here a moving boundary model is used and adapted to simulate and compare the transient behavior of a microchannel evaporator with a fin-and-tube evaporator for a residential air-conditioning system. We investigate an alternative tube-fin evaporator design (accelerated flow evaporator, AFE) in which the air-side local heat transfer coefficient is increased due to a progressive reduction of the free-flow area. For a given heat transfer rate, this enhancement is expected to partially compensate the decrease in surface area, which reduces the evaporator material cost. The air-side thermal-hydraulic behavior of nine AFEs was determined experimentally, and a calculation method that relies on j and f correlations for plain tube-fin heat exchangers and on mass and momentum balances has been proposed. The method enables the calculation of the by-pass fraction associated with the air stream through the clearance between the tube bank and the outer edge of the fins. The agreement between the model, which introduces no additional fitting parameters, and the experiments is within ±10% for all heat transfer data and ±15% for the majority of the pressure drop data. 相似文献
