We report on a comparative Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) multi-scale roughness analysis of cold rolled Al alloy and steel roll, in order to characterize the roughness transfer from the steel roll to the workpiece in cold strip rolling processes. More than three orders of length-scale magnitudes were investigated from 100 microns to 50 nanometers on both types of surfaces. The analysis reveals that both types of surfaces are anisotropic self-affine surfaces. Transverse and longitudinal height profiles exhibit a different roughness exponent (Hurst exponent) ζ=0.93±0.03 and ζ=0.5±0.05 Different length-scale cut-offs are obtained in each direction lsup=50μm, lsup>100μm. Height and slope distributions are also computed to complement this study. The above mentionned self-affine characteresitics are found to be very similar for the roll and the strip surfaces, which suggest that roughness transfer takes place from the macroscopic (100 μm) to the very small scale (50 nm). 相似文献

Cross-rolling, in which the roll axis is tilted by 7.5° towards the TD-direction, was carried out on a commercial magnesium alloy. The (0002) texture intensity of the cross-rolled specimen was lower than that of the unidirectionally rolled specimen, and the (0002) texture of the cross-rolled specimen was inclined about 10° towards the TD-direction. Also, the grain size of the cross-rolled specimen was smaller than that of the unidirectionally rolled specimen. As a result of the Erichsen tests at 433-493 K, the press formability of the cross-rolled specimen was higher than that of the unidirectionally rolled specimen. The high formability of the cross-rolled specimen is attributed to both the modification of (0002) texture and the enhancement of grain refinement by the cross-rolling. 相似文献

Wavy roll design was employed for strengthening 1 mm thin austenitic stainless steel coil sheet by cold rolling without further reduction in thickness. This steel possesses high corrosion resistance and high ductility. Initially, the sheets were rolled into sine wave shape (wave amplitude <2 mm) and then flattened using conventional cold rolling mill. Such a process cycle was repeated for four times successfully and the mechanical properties were measured after each cycle. The yield strength increased from 255 to 931 MPa with corresponding decrease in elongation from 45% to only 17% after the fourth cycle of severe cold working. Tensile strength and hardness values increased from 753 MPa and 185 HV to 973 MPa and 371 HV, respectively. The micro-to-nano-scale resolution structures, obtained by optical and atomic force microscope (AFM), were used to explain the variation in properties during this manufacturing process and to propose schematically the deformation mechanism. 相似文献
