In this work a glass ceramic substrate was processed by focusing a laser beam inside the said material. The crystal phase within the amorphous matrix provides mechanical properties to the glass ceramic substrate in such a way that dots can be patterned inside the fore-mentioned material without producing any cracks. These marks are made up of crystals, the growth of which has been induced by the laser beam. These inner structures can modify the optical, thermal and mechanical properties of the glass ceramic substrate.A Q-switched Nd:YAG laser at its fundamental wavelength of 1064 nm with pulsewidths in the nanosecond range has been used.Morphology, composition, microstructure, mechanical and thermal properties of the processed material are described. 相似文献

Photo-thermo-refractive (PTR) glass demonstrates refractive index change after exposure to UV radiation followed by a thermal treatment that enables recording of high efficiency holographic optical elements. This work demonstrates feasibility of function of this material as a complex optical medium which posseses both photosensitive and luminescent properties and paves a way for creation of monolythic solid state lasers where resonator components can be holographically recorded inside of a laser medium. It was found, that incorporating of Nd3+ ions in PTR glass does not affect photosensitivity required for hologram recording. It was demonstrated that emission wavelength, spectral width, and cross section of Nd3+ luminescence in PTR glass are typical for silicate laser glasses and Nd-doped PTR glass can be considered as a promising laser medium for monolithic solid state lasers. 相似文献

In a blend of two immiscible polymers a controlled morphology can be obtained by adding a block or graft copolymer as compatibilizer. In the present work blends of low‐density polyethylene (PE) and polyamide‐6 (PA‐6) were prepared by melt mixing the polymers in a co‐rotating, intermeshing twin‐screw extruder. Poly(ethylene‐graft‐polyethylene oxide) (PE‐PEO), synthesized from poly(ethylene‐co‐acrylic acid) (PEAA) (backbone) and poly(ethylene oxide) monomethyl ether (MPEO) (grafts), was added as compatibilizer. As a comparison, the unmodified backbone polymer, PEAA, was used. The morphology of the blends was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Melting and crystallization behavior of the blends was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and mechanical properties by tensile testing. The compatibilizing mechanisms were different for the two copolymers, and generated two different blend morphologies. Addition of PE‐PEO gave a material with small, well‐dispersed PA‐spheres having good adhesion to the PE matrix, whereas PEAA generated a morphology characterized by small PA‐spheres agglomerated to larger structures. Both compatibilized PE/PA blends had much improved mechanical properties compared with the uncompatibilized blend, with elongation at break (εb) increasing up to 200%. Addition of compatibilizer to the PE/PA blends stabilized the morphology towards coalescence and significantly reduced the size of the dispersed phase domains, from an average diameter of 20 μm in the unmodified PE/PA blend to approximately 1 μm in the compatibilized blends. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The isothermal crystallization behavior and melting characteristics of pure polypropylene (PP) and PPs nucleated with a phosphate nucleating agent (A) and a sorbitol derivative (D) have been studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Compared with pure PP, nucleated PPs show a shorter half‐times of crystallization. Dependence of crystallization rate of nucleated PP on the crystallization temperature is stronger than that of pure PP at the higher crystallization temperature, whereas the opposite results are obtained at the lower crystallization temperature. Addition of nucleating agent shifts the temperature at the deviation from the baseline of DSC melting curve, T, and the temperature at the completion of melting, T, to higher temperatures, indicating that nucleated PPs exhibit a higher perfection of PP crystals. A shoulder peak in the high temperature range of melting peak of nucleated PP and a wider low temperature region in the melting peak of pure PP are observed. Obviously, PP and nucleated PPs form different distribution of crystal perfection in the isothermal crystallization process. High-speed melt spinning of poly(ethylene terephthalate) was performed using a spinning nozzle with an inserted metallic wire of various lengths (0, 8, 30, and 45 mm). The molecular orientation of as-spun fibers increased with the increase in the wire length at all the take-up velocities examined. Along with the enhanced molecular orientation, the longer wire length led to the starting of orientation-induced crystallization at lower take-up velocities. The structure of crystallized fibers obtained at low speeds can be characterized by high crystallinity and relatively low molecular orientation. From the on-line measurement of the diameter and temperature profiles of the spin line with the 30-mm metallic wire, it was revealed that the spin-line had a maximum diameter of about 6 mm at the wire end. The spin-line temperature at this position was about 190°C. The solidification of the spin-line occurred at positions much closer to the spinneret in comparison with ordinary high-speed spinning. These results show that high-speed spinning with a wire inserted in the nozzle corresponds to a spinning process operated at extremely low extrusion temperature using a nozzle with an extremely large diameter. From the starting of orientation-induced crystallization at lower levels of birefringence in comparison with ordinary high-speed spinning, the alteration of the inherent fiber structure that cannot be represented by birefringence was also suggested. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The crystallization behavior and morphology of poly(ϵ-caprolactone) (PCL)/poly(vinyl butyral) (PVB) blends containing carbon black (CB) were studied as functions of PVB and CB content. The presence of CB had no influence on the primary nucleation of PCL crystals or the spherulitic growth rate. They were only influenced by the blend ratio of PVB. The growth rates of spherulites were unchanged throughout the crystallization process, regardless of the CB content. The results indicate that the concentration of PCL at the front of growing spherulite remains constant during crystallization.
