Synchrotron nanoscopy imaging study of scalp hair in breast cancer patients and healthy individuals: Difference in medulla loss and cortical membrane enhancements

Nanoscopic synchrotron X‐ray imaging was performed on scalp hair samples of patients with breast cancer and healthy individuals to investigate any structural differences as diagnostic tool. Hair strands were divided into 2‐3 segments along the strands from root to tip, followed by imaging either in projection or in CT scanning with a monochromatic 6.78‐keV X‐ray using zone‐plate optics with a resolving power of 60 nm. All the examined cancer hairs exhibited medulla loss with cancer stage‐dependent pattern; complete loss, discontinuous or trace along the strands. In contrast, medullas were well retained without complete loss in the healthy hair. In the CT‐scanned axial images, the cortical spindle compartments had no contrast in the healthy hair, but appeared hypointense in contrast to the surrounding hyperintense cortical membrane complex in the cancer hair. In conclusion, observation of medulla loss and cortical membrane enhancements in the hair strands of breast cancer patients demonstrated structural variations in the cancer hair, providing a new platform for further synchrotron X‐ray imaging study of screening breast cancer patients. 人发硒的原子荧光光谱法测定

采用原子荧光光谱法测定人发中硒的含量.健康者(100人)头发中硒的平均含量为0.58~0.65μg/g;心脏病、高血压等患者与癌症病(50人)头发中硒的平均含量为0.21~0.40μg/g.研究结果表明:心脏病、高血压等患者与癌症病人发硒的平均含量明显低于正常人.该方法的相对标准偏差为5.29%,方法简便、快速、准确.

A sweeping algorithm for cluster hair rendering

projection-based sweeping algorithm , is developed to render hair images using the cluster model. Compared with a previous ray-tracing algorithm, the new algorithm offers several significant improvements: (1) it avoids the complex and expensive computation of the ray–cluster intersection; (2) it eliminates the time-consuming density-value evaluations at the sample points along a ray during ray tracing; (3) it allows more flexible variation of the density map along the trajectory to enhance the natural appearance of hair; and (4) it allows easier coarse/fine control over the density map for multi-resolution rendering. As a result, the new algorithm significantly improves rendering efficiency and hair image quality. Compared with the existing hardware-supported, texture-mapping projection methods, the new method allows more sophisticated shading models, accurate shadow calculation, and uniform handling of arbitrary slice orientations with accurate opacity accumulation. 中子活化法研究砷中毒病区人发中微量元素的分布

应用中子活化分析法测定了地方性砷中毒病区病人头发中23种微量元素的质量分数,并与北京健康人发中微量元素的质量分数进行了比较。结果表明:As,Fe,REE,Ba,Br,Sb在重病患者发中的质量分数最高,轻病患者次之,正常人最低;而Se,Ca在健康人发中的质量分数最高。用t检验方法比较这三组之间人发中微量元素的差异,发现上述元素在三组中,人发之间均存在明显差异(P<0 05或P<0 001)。并且头发中As质量分数越高,病人病情越严重。Fe,REE和Ba等微量元素可能加重砷的中毒,而Se,Ca和Co可能拮抗砷的毒性。
