On a three-dimensional axisymmetric boundary-value problem of nonlinear elastic deformation: Asymptotic solution and exponentially small error

In this paper, we study a three-dimensional axisymmetric boundary-value problem of a slender cylinder composed of a nonlinearly elastic material subjected to an axial force. Starting from the field equations, after a transformation and proper scalings, we identify a small variable and two small parameters, which characterize the present problem. Then, by an approach involving compound series-asymptotic expansions, a nonlinear ODE is derived, which governs the axial strain (the first-term in the series expansion). By imposing the zero radial displacement conditions at two ends, we manage to get the analytical solution of the axial strain, from which all other physical quantities can be deduced and thus the three-dimensional displacement field can be determined. Graphical results are presented, which show that there are two boundary layers near the two ends while the middle part is in a state of almost uniform extension. The asymptotic structure of the analytical solution is derived, which offers clear explanations to the structure of the deformed configuration and shows that the thickness of both boundary layers is of the order of the radius. We also point out the relevance of the present results to the St. Venant’s problem. In particular, we obtain the explicit uniformly-valid exponentially small error term, when the obtained deformed configuration is compared to the configuration of a uniform extension.     

Singular Trajectories in Multi-Input Time-Optimal Problems: Application to Controlled Mechanical Systems

This paper deals with the time-optimal control problem for a class of control systems which includes controlled mechanical systems with possible dissipation terms. The Lie algebras associated with such mechanical systems have certain special properties. These properties are explored and used in conjunction with the Pontryagin maximum principle to determine the structure of singular extremals and, in particular, time-optimal trajectories. The theory is illustrated by an application to a time-optimal problem for a class of underwater vehicles.

随着信息资源的持续增长，信息获取系统为特定用户提供特定信息服务的需求越来越重要。该文提出了基于奇异值分解和神经网络的个性化信息模式识别的方法，可以方便地获取用户信息需求的特征，并且利用这些特征信息完成个性化的信息识别和匹配，即实现个性化信息的模式识别，进而实现信息的个性化获取和管理。该文中的算法实现简单，可以方便地应用到目前的一些信息管理、服务系统中。     

Mining for trigger events with survival analysis

This paper discusses a new application of data mining, quantifying the importance of responding to trigger events with reactive contacts. Trigger events happen during a customer’s lifecycle and indicate some change in the relationship with the company. If detected early, the company can respond to the problem and retain the customer; otherwise the customer may switch to another company. It is usually easy to identify many potential trigger events. What is needed is a way of prioritizing which events demand interventions. We conceptualize the trigger event problem and show how survival analysis can be used to quantify the importance of addressing various trigger events. The method is illustrated on four real data sets from different industries and countries.     

Frequency domain solution to delay-type Nehari problem

This paper generalizes the frequency-domain results on the delay-type Nehari problem in the stable case to the unstable case. The solvability condition of the delay-type Nehari problem is formulated in terms of the nonsingularity of three matrices. The optimal value γ_opt is the maximal γ∈(0,∞) such that one of the three matrices becomes singular. All sub-optimal compensators are parameterized in a transparent structure incorporating a modified Smith predictor.

What do we learn from binding features? Evidence for multilevel feature integration.

Four experiments were conducted to investigate the relationship between the binding of visual features (as measured by their aftereffects on subsequent binding) and the learning of feature-conjunction probabilities. Both binding and learning effects were obtained, but they did not interact. Interestingly, (shape-color) binding effects disappeared with increasing practice, presumably because of the fact that only 1 of the features involved was relevant to the task. However, this instability was only observed for arbitrary, not highly overlearned combinations of simple geometric features and not for real objects (colored pictures of a banana and strawberry), where binding effects were strong and resistant to practice. These findings suggest that learning has no direct impact on the strength or resistance of bindings or on speed with which features are bound; however, learning does affect the amount of attention particular feature dimensions attract, which again can influence which features are considered in binding. Maximally efficient dialogue mode algorithm

Collaboration is more efficient when the most capable participant for each goal has initiative in directing the problem-solving for that goal. The paper describes a method for using a probabilistic analysis to create a mode-switching mechanism that selects which participant should control the collaborative problem solving so that efficiency is maximized.
