Polyurethanes were prepared from pure 4,4′-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI), 1,4-butane diol (BDO) or 1,2-ethane diol (EDO) and α,ω-hydroxyl poly(propylene oxide) (PPO) by reaction injection moulding (RIM). Hard segment (MDI + BDO or EDO) level was 45–50 wt%. The PPO had about 20% ethylene oxide copolymerized in at the chain ends to provide 80% primary OH end groups. Mn was varied from 2000 to 4000. Dibutyl tin dilaurate catalyst and mould temperature were varied. Dynamic mechanical, wide-angle X-ray, differential scanning calorimeter, molecular weight and tensile elongation measurements were made on the RIM polyurethanes. At low reaction rates (low catalyst or temperature) highly crystalline, well phase separated but low molecular weight polymers were produced. At high catalyst or temperature levels more poorly phase separated but high molecular weight, tough polymers resulted. Higher Mn PPO gave better phase separation and EDO gave higher melting temperatures. Preventing hard segment crystallinity by substituting asymmetric MDI or glycols resulted in phase compatibility.  相似文献

The equations for predicting the number-average molecular weight are derived on the basis of the three stage polymerization model (TSPM) in this paper. By applying the equations, a plotting approach is proposed to determine the apparent initiator efficiency defined as f[(αtd+1)/2] and the constant of chain transfer to monomer, where f is the initiator efficiency and αtd denotes the fraction of the termination rate constants by disproportionation. Using the approach to plot the experimental data in the literature, it is found that the chain transfer to monomer can be neglected for both methylmethacrylate (MMA) and styrene (St) polymerizations, but it can exert a significant effect on ethylmethacrylate (EMA) polymerization. In addition, the apparent initiator efficiency is found to be independent of reaction temperature and initiator concentration at each stage. The values of f[(αtd+1)/2] at gel effect stage are slightly reduced as compared with that at low conversion stage for MMA and EMA polymerizations. However, it decreases significantly at gel effect stage for St polymerization. Using the equations derived and the apparent initiator efficiencies obtained from TSPM plots, the number-average molecular weights at different conversions can be predicted. Comparisons show that the agreement between predictions and experimental data is satisfactory.  相似文献

Two series of polypropylenes with different molecular weight distribution and tacticity characteristics were injection molded into flexural test specimens by varying cylinder temperature and the effects of the molecular weight distribution and tacticity on the structure and properties of the moldings were studied. Measured propertied were flexural modulus, flexural strength, heat distortion temperature, Izod impact strength, and mold shrinkage and structures studied were crystallinity, the thickness of skin layer, a*‐axis‐oriented component fraction and crystalline orientation functions. The relations between the structures and properties were also studied. It was found that the molecular weight distribution and tacticity characteristics affect the properties mainly through the molecular orientation and crystallinity, respectively. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. I measured positron lifetime in natural polymer–cotton fibers as a function of isochronal annealing temperature in the range 27–290°C. The variations in the positron results indicated structural changes occurring in the cotton fibers and determined the glass‐transition temperature as 80°C. Activation energies were measured separately for the crystalline and amorphous regions, indicating the versatility of the technique. These values were close to the O? H bond dissociation energy, suggesting O? H bond dissociation, the most probable process occurring under thermal treatment. As an extension of the positron results, the molecular weight of the cotton fibers was determined to be 1,200,000 based on free volume, which was within the range suggested for cotton. There seemed to be an indication that crosslinking changed the spiral structure of cotton fibers to the network type. Crystallization of polyethylene (PE) blends of low and high molecular weight components under shear flow was studied using time-resolved depolarized light scattering (DPLS), focusing on effects of the high molecular weight component on the shish-kebab structure formation. Anisotropic two-dimensional scattering pattern due to shish-like structure formation was observed above a certain concentration of the high molecular weight PE. The threshold was about 2.5-3 times larger than the chain overlap concentration, suggesting an important role of entanglements of the high molecular weight component. On the basis of these results a gel-spinning-like mechanism for the shish-like structure formation has been proposed. The DPLS results also implied that the shish-like structure was mainly formed from the high molecular weight PE. This was confirmed by small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) measurements on an elongated PE blend of low molecular weight deuterated PE and high molecular weight hydrogenated PE (3 wt%).  相似文献

ABSTRACT:  The aim of this study was to determine the effect of adding 3.3% sodium lactate (SL), 0.25% calcium lactate (CL), and 1.65% SL along with 0.125% CL (SL+CL) on the physicochemical properties, cooking characteristics, and microbiological quality of microwave-cooked chicken patties compared to control (no added lactates). The addition of lactates did not affect the proximate composition of cooked chicken patties. The pH of CL- or SL+CL-containing patties was significantly ( P < 0.05) reduced compared to control or SL patties. The SL-containing patties had lower ( P < 0.05) a w values compared to control or CL patties. The CL- or SL+CL-containing patties had lower denatured myoglobin and higher ( P < 0.05) cooking yield, surface redness (CIE a *), and chroma values. However, addition of CL alone resulted in higher total expressible fluid, indicating lower water-holding capacity. The CL-containing patties exhibited lower Warner–Bratzler shear force values and higher ( P < 0.05) penetrometer reading compared to the SL-containing patties, indicating soft texture. Thiobarbituric acid (TBA) values were significantly ( P < 0.05) reduced in all lactate-containing patties compared to control up to the 7th day of refrigerated storage under aerobic conditions. No difference ( P > 0.05) was observed in aerobic plate counts between control and lactate-added patties during 28-d storage.  相似文献
