Dynamical responses for a vertical vibration model of a four-roller cold rolling mill under combined stochastic and harmonic excitations

Considering that random fluctuations can affect the rolling process of cold rolling mills, leading to abnormal cold mill performance and defects in the rolled product. Therefore, it is crucial to study the influence of random fluctuations on the system of cold rolling mills. In this paper, taking a model of the vertical vibration of a four-roller cold rolling mill under harmonic excitation as a prototype class for a real system, the effects of random fluctuations on the system response are analyzed. Firstly, based on the deterministic vertical vibration model of a four-roller cold rolling mill under harmonic excitation, a stochastic vertical vibration model of a four-roller cold rolling mill with random fluctuation as Gaussian white noise is introduced. Subsequently, the vertical vibration model of a four-roller rolling mill is theoretically analyzed by the averaging method and the stochastic averaging method, respectively. The effectiveness of the proposed theoretical method is verified by numerical simulation results, and the influences of harmonic excitation and random excitation on the system response are also investigated in detail. Finally, the results show that the noise induces the occurrence of stochastic transitions and bifurcations, and the steady-state probability density function and time history diagrams are given to further explain the existence of these dynamic phenomena. The related research can provide theoretical guidance for the realization of vibration control and reliability design in the four-roller cold rolling mill system.

Studies on microbridges of superconducting YBCO thin film

Critical current densities of the superconducting Y-Ba-Cu-O (YBCO) films have been observed to decrease with the increase of power of microwave radiation. Presence of Josephson type of junctions in the microbridges has been established from the microwave irradiation and magnetic field studies. BCS energy gap parameter (2/kT _c ) has been calculated from thedI/dV characteristics and found to be 3.7 at 13 K.     

A relativistic extension of the complex scaling method using oscillator basis functions

We develop the complex scaling method within the relativistic framework by expanding the Dirac spinors in the complete set of eigensolutions of a harmonic oscillator potential, and present the theoretical formalism of describing the discrete bound and resonant states on the same footing. Based on a well established and frequently used model, we demonstrate the utility and applicability of the extended method and examine the stability of the results with respect to the variations of the parameters of the model. Satisfactory agreements are found for all the calculated results in comparison with some other calculations in references. Especially, the present calculation in the nonrelativistic limit gives a consistent result with that in the nonrelativistic calculation.     

Betweenness parameterized above tight lower bound

We study ordinal embedding relaxations in the realm of parameterized complexity. We prove the existence of a quadratic kernel for the Betweenness problem parameterized above its tight lower bound, which is stated as follows. For a set V of variables and set C of constraints “vi is between vj and vk”, decide whether there is a bijection from V to the set {1,…,|V|} satisfying at least |C|/3+κ of the constraints in C. Our result solves an open problem attributed to Benny Chor in Niedermeier's monograph “Invitation to Fixed-Parameter Algorithms”. The betweenness problem is of interest in molecular biology. An approach developed in this paper can be used to determine parameterized complexity of a number of other optimization problems on permutations parameterized above or below tight bounds.     

A level set method based on the Bayesian risk for medical image segmentation

This paper proposes an alternative criterion derived from the Bayesian risk classification error for image segmentation. The proposed model introduces a region-based force determined through the difference of the posterior image densities for the different classes, a term based on the prior probability derived from Kullback-Leibler information number, and a regularity term adopted to avoid the generation of excessively irregular and small segmented regions. Compared with other level set methods, the proposed approach relies on the optimum decision of pixel classification and the estimates of prior probabilities; thus the approach has more reliability in theory and practice. Experiments show that the proposed approach is able to extract the complicated shapes of targets and robust for various types of medical images. Moreover, the algorithm can be easily extendable for multiphase segmentation.

双边开关磁阻直线电动机的设计

介绍了双边开关磁阻直线电动机(LSRM)的组成、工作原理及其尺寸设计方法,给出了LSRM样机的尺寸设计结果,并采用有限元法分析LSRM磁场分布规律,进行磁场分段计算,从而得到了最大电感、最小电感和相绕组匝数。测试结果表明,该LSRM样机启动力较大且出力不受电流方向影响,但也存在出力有脉动和噪声较大等问题,该问题可通过优化结构设计和控制算法解决。     

Parameter sensitivity study of the Nelder-Mead Simplex Method

This paper presents a parameter sensitivity study of the Nelder-Mead Simplex Method for unconstrained optimization. Nelder-Mead Simplex Method is very easy to implement in practice, because it does not require gradient computation; however, it is very sensitive to the choice of initial points selected. Fan-Zahara conducted a sensitivity study using a select set of test cases and suggested the best values for the parameters based on the highest percentage rate of successful minimization. Begambre-Laier used a strategy to control the Particle Swarm Optimization parameters based on the Nelder Mead Simplex Method in identifying structural damage. The main purpose of the paper is to extend their parameter sensitivity study to better understand the parameter’s behavior. The comprehensive parameter sensitivity study was conducted on seven test functions: B2, Beale, Booth, Wood, Rastrigin, Rosenbrock and Sphere Functions to search for common patterns and relationships each parameter has in producing the optimum solution. The results show important relations of the Nelder-Mead Simplex parameters: reflection, expansion, contraction, and Simplex size and how they impact the optimum solutions. This study is crucial, because better understanding of the parameters behavior can motivate current and future research using Nelder-Mead Simplex in creating an intelligent algorithm, which can be more effective, efficient, and save computational time.
