The amounts of N and K fertilizers used in the South African sugar industry have increased dramatically in the past four decades, due partly to an increase in the area under sugarcane but also to large increases in the amounts of N and K fertilizers applied per hectare. There has also been an increase in the amount of P fertilizer used but this has been more gradual. The main fertilizer carriers for cane and their relative efficiency are discussed. During this period there has been considerable research into the nutrient requirements of sugarcane. Correlations established between soil and leaf analysis and crop responses to N, P and K fertilizers, and their effects on cane quality, are reviewed. While fertilizer recommendations based on soil and leaf analysis have provided a useful guide for determining the nutrient requirements of cane, they are continually being modified in the light of current research.  相似文献

A phenomenological free-energy function including the effects of elastic boundary conditions was presented and used to investigate the single-domain, single-crystal properties of the ferroelectric perovskite, PbTiO3. In particular, the effects of tensile and compressive hydrostatic stress on the spontaneous polarization, Curie point, dielectric susceptibility, and piezoelectric property coefficients were examined. The calculated shift of the Curie point with hydrostatic stress, along with the entropy and enthalpy of the ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transition, was found to be in good agreement with experimental measurements. The isothermal variation of the relative dielectric susceptibility and piezoelectric coefficients with hydrostatic stress exhibited the expected behavior near the ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transition.  相似文献

Pure BaTiO3 exhibits a paraelectric-to-ferroelectric phase transition at 130°C. When stoichiometric BaTiO3 is combined with 10 mol% ZrO2, the relative permittivity (ε) changes to a broad, relatively insignificant temperature dependence, and the Curie point, T c , is not sharply defined. However, the transition sharpens at T = 95°C when these samples are sintered for a longer period of 60 h. SEM, EDAX analysis coupled with TEM observation gives three types of core-shell structures of different microstructural characteristics which are related to the diffuse phase transition. Chemical inhomogeneity, due to Zr4+ distribution in the core-shell structure, is proposed to account for the diffuse phase transition behavior.  相似文献

BaTiO3 powder doped with La donor and codoped with Mn or Mg acceptor was sintered at 1350°C/1 h in air. For Ladoped BaTiO3, the room-temperature resistivity decreased to a minimum at [La3+] ∼ 0.15 mol%. For La-Mn-codoped BaTiO3, the minimum resistivity occurred at [La3+] - 2[Mn2+] ∼ 0.15 mol%. When the ceramic was changed to a fine-grained insulator by high donor doping ([La3+] >0.15 mol%), its semiconductivity was restored, and the relatively homogeneous, coarse-grained microstructure recurred by codoping with either Mg or Mn acceptor, with the transition at [La3+] - 2[Mg2+] = 0.15 mol% or [La3+] - 2[Mn2+] = 0.15 mol%. The analogy of a compensation effect between La-Mn- and La-Mg-codoped BaTiO3 suggested that Mn acceptor added to BaTiO3 exists as Mn2+ ion in the bulk grain region; its influence on the positive temperature coefficient of resistivity behavior is then discussed.  相似文献

Thermal diffusivity and conductivity values for several Al2O3-SiC whisker composites were determined. The thermal diffusivity values spanned the range from 373 to 1473 K, and thermal conductivity data wre obtained between 305 and 365 K. The thermal diffusivity decreased with increasing temperature and increased with SiC-whisker content. An estimate of the thermal conductivity of the whiskers was obtained from the direct thermal conductivity measurements, but attempts to derive whisker conductivity values from the thermal diffusivity data were not successful because the laser flash method lacks the required accuracy and precision. Specimens were subjected to two different thermal quench experiments to investigate the effect of thermal history on diffusivity. In the most severe case, multiple 1073- to 373-K quenches, radial cracks were observed in the test specimens; however, there was no change in diffusivity. The lack of sensitivity to thermal cycling appears to be related to the sample size.  相似文献

Si3N4 matrix composites reinforced by SiC whiskers, SiC particles, or both were fabricated using the hot-pressing technique. The mechanical properties of the composites containing various amounts of these SiC reinforcing materials and different sizes of SiC particles were investigated. Fracture toughness of the composites was significantly improved by introducing SiC whiskers and particles together, compared with that obtained by adding SiC whiskers or SiC particles alone. On increasing the size of the added SiC particles, the fracture toughness of the composites reinforced by both whiskers and particles was increased. Their fracture toughness also showed a strong dependence on the amount of SiC particles (average size 40 μm) and was a maximum at the particle content of 10 vol%. The maximum fracture toughness of these composites was 10.5 MPa·m1/2 and the flexural strength was 550 MPa after addition of 20 vol% of SiC whiskers and 10 vol% of SiC particles having an average particle size of 40 μm. These mechanical properties were almost constant from room temperature to temperatures around 1000°C. Fracture surface observations revealed that the reinforcing mechanisms acting in these composites were crack deflection and crack branching by SiC particles and pullout of SiC whiskers.  相似文献

Compressive creep of SiC-whisker-reinforced Al2O3 composites (0, 5, 15, and 25 wt% SiC) was measured in the temperature range of 1300° to 1500°C in air and argon. The creep resistance increased with increasing whisker concentration. The results indicated that the whiskers degraded in air, increasing strain rates compared to those in argon. Stress exponents between 1.0 and 2.0 and an activation energy of 620 ± 100 kJ/mol were measured. Transmission electron microscopy observations indicated that cavitation was minimal and that the deformed composites had the same dislocation structure as did the as-received samples.  相似文献

Regions consisting of grains of pronounced cubic develpment exist in pure KNbO3 ceramics which exhibit a temperature dependence of dielectric constant very similar to that of KNbO3 crystals. KNbO3 ceramics doped with GeO2-K2O additives have small grains, semiconducting resistance, and a different curve of dielectric constant versus temperature. As the average grain size decreases, the shape of the curve differs increasingly from that of KNbO3 crystals.  相似文献

High-Curie-point semiconducting barium-lead titanate positive temperature coefficient of resistivity (PTCR) ceramics of composition Ba0.897Pb0.1La0.003TiO3 and Ba0.5Pb0.5La0.003TiO3 were prepared. The starting powders were synthesized by reacting commercial BaTiO3, PbO, and TiO2. To avoid the nonstoichiometry due to the volatilization of Pb during the sintering process, a lead atmosphere sintering approach with PbTiO3 as packing powder was used. The samples being fabricated by this method show a PTCR effect of 3 to 4.5 orders of magnitude above the Curie point. The curie points were about 180°C for Ba0.897Pb0.1La0.003TiO3 and about 360°C for Ba0.497Pb0.5La0.003TiO3.  相似文献
