Reliable estimation of the vehicle position is the main prerequisite in all autonomous mobile robotic applications. Image‐scale uncertainty in correlation‐based monocular visual odometry systems negatively affects the accuracy of the vehicle motion estimation. This paper presents the development of a new technique and algorithm to estimate image‐scale variations due to camera height fluctuations when the vehicle is driven on uneven terrains or when the height of vehicle from ground changes as a result of changes in load or number of passengers in the vehicle. This technique depends on marking the image frames by two red laser points, as independent reference points, which have a certain distance between them. The image‐scale variations can be estimated by monitoring the variations in the distance between these two reference points. The proposed technique eliminates the need for camera recalibration and the use of sensors to measure the variations of camera height from ground, such as laser range finders and acceleration sensors. The developed system uses a single downward‐facing monocular camera supported by a lighting module and installed underneath the test vehicle to avoid the negative effect of directional sunlight and shadows, which can disturb the correlation. Indoor and outdoor experiments have proven the efficiency of the suggested technique in resolving image‐scale uncertainty and ensuring an image‐scale‐invariant correlation‐based matching, with only less than 5% additional computational time. © 2016 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Partitioning to surfaces is an important sink for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) indoors, but the mechanisms are not well understood or quantified. Here, a mass spectrometer was coupled to a portable surface reactor and a flow tube to measure partitioning of VOCs into paint films coated onto glass or wallboard, and their subsequent diffusion. A model was developed to extract values of the effective absorbing organic mass concentration of the film, Cw, which is a measure of absorption capacity, and VOC diffusion coefficients, Df, from VOC time profiles measured during film passivation and depassivation. Values of Cw agreed well with the value estimated from the paint film mass and flow tube air volume, and Df values (also measured using attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy) correlated well with VOC vapor saturation concentrations, C*, estimated using a group contribution method. The value of these relationships for estimating key parameters that control VOC partitioning into paint and the fate of VOCs indoors was demonstrated using a house model, which indicated that >50% of VOCs with C* ≤108 μg/m3 (C* of octane, hexanone, and propanol) that contacted a paint film of typical thickness fully permeated the film regardless of emission duration. 相似文献

Environmental pollution in our daily life because of noise is an increasing public health concern. We designed and woven with staple- and draw-textured yarns, for sound absorbance purposes. For wefts and warps, two different thicknesses of the thick staple-yarn and thin draw-textured filament yarn were used. The prepared fabrics were classified in porous, medium, and dense, on the basis of their densities and air permeabilities, and the sound absorption coefficients of the fabrics were found to be linearly related to the air permeability. The sound absorption coefficient determined by the impedance tube method was higher for porous fabrics compared with that for dense fabrics in the high frequency region. By the reverberant field method, the sound absorption coefficients for all fabrics were highest in the low frequency region. Porous fabrics exhibited a shorter reverberation time and a higher sound absorption coefficient than dense fabrics owing to their good sound absorption property. 相似文献
