An examination into the effects of carried military equipment on the performance of two tactical combat movement simulations was conducted. Nineteen Airfield Defence Guards performed a break contact (five 30-m sprints) and a fire and movement simulation (16 6-m bounds) in five load conditions (10–30 kg). Heavier loads significantly increased movement duration on the break contact (0.8%/kg load) and fire and movement (1.1%/kg). Performance deterioration was observed from the beginning to the end of the series of movements (bounds or sprints) with deterioration becoming significantly greater in heavier load conditions. Inter-individual variation between slower and faster participants showed a range in load effects; 0.6, 0.8%/kg for fast and 1.0, 1.4%/kg for slow (break contact, fire and movement, respectively). Velocity profiles revealed that the initial acceleration and peak velocity were the primary determinants of performance. As the duration of these tactical combat movements reflects periods of heightened vulnerability, these findings highlight important implications for commanders.

Practitioner Summary: Increasing amounts of carried military equipment impairs the performance of tactical combat movements. Examination of inter-individual variation in velocity profiles identified that the initial acceleration and the peak velocity achieved during sprints and bounds are key determinants of overall performance.  相似文献

This study explores the effects of cognitive ability (information seeking, inference, spatial recognition, attention span, and attention allocation) and cognitive style (active-reflective, sensing-intuitive, visual-verbal, and sequential-global) on task performance of simulated spaceflight emergency operations that require judgment and operation on a Chinese spaceflight instrument board and the possible interaction effect with training experience. The performance criteria included task completion time and number of human errors. It was found that inference ability, spatial recognition ability, and attention span had significant effects on task completion time, while attention allocation ability had significant effect on the number of error. The participants with a sequential cognitive style made significantly fewer errors than those with a global cognitive style. Training experience significantly decreased task completion time. The participants with sequential cognitive style learnt faster than those with global cognitive style in the spaceflight instrument operations. With increasing training experience, the predictive capability of cognitive ability on performance decreased, whereas the predictive capability of the sequential-global cognitive style on performance increased.  相似文献

The problem of channel sharing by rate adaptive streams belonging to various classes is considered. Rate adaptation provides the opportunity for accepting more connections by adapting the bandwidth of connections that are already in the system. However, bandwidth adaptation must be employed in a careful manner in order to ensure that (a) bandwidth is allocated to various classes in a fair manner (system perspective) and (b) bandwidth adaptation does not affect adversely the perceived user quality of the connection (user quality). The system perspective aspect has been studied earlier. This paper focuses on the equally important user perspective. It is proposed to quantify user Quality of Service (QoS) through measures capturing short and long-term bandwidth fluctuations that can be implemented with the mechanisms of traffic regulators, widely used in networking for the purpose of controlling the traffic entering or exiting a network node. Furthermore, it is indicated how to integrate the user perspective metrics with the optimal algorithms for system performance metrics developed earlier by the authors. Simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework.

Nikos G. Argiriou   received the Diploma degree in Electrical Engineering from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Division, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1996. He worked as a researcher, on secure medical image transmission over networks, at the Image Processing Lab at the same university during 1996–1997. During 1998–2000 he was a researcher for the European Project Esprit Catserver concerning the use of advanced Quality of Service techniques in CATV networks. He received his Ph.D. degree at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2007. His current research interests are in the development and implementation of QoS techniques for wired and wireless networks. Leonidas Georgiadis   received the Diploma degree in Electrical Engineering from Aristotle University, Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1979, and his M.S. and Ph.D degrees both in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut, in 1981 and 1986, respectively. From 1986 to 1987 he was Research Assistant Professor at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. In 1987 he joined IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights as a Research Staff Member. Since October 1995, he has been with the Telecommunications Department of Aristotle University, Thessaloniki, Greece. A multimodel scheme is designed for a triggering tunnel-diode circuit. The scheme improves the transient behavior during the transition time period after switching from a stable system equilibrium point to another one which is known as a triggering process. Each model is obtained by a linearization of the circuit near an equilibrium point. Moreover, each of these models can be described as a combination of two other transfer functions describing the linearized plant behavior near two different equilibrium points. The scheme chooses online the model with the best tracking performance in order to generate the control law. Different reference transfer functions are proposed with the aim of generating the desired transient in the triggering process. Some simulations show the usefulness of this scheme.  相似文献

A major factor contributing to the total measuring error of coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) is the performance of the probing sub-system. Probing test methods are typically used to detect errors due to the probing sub-system. The probe performance evaluation method specified in the ANSI B89 standard is investigated in this paper. The sampling plan associated in the probe performance evaluation was tested by using experimental probing data from a CMM. Research findings indicate that the performance of touch trigger probes is overestimated due to a systematic bias in the vertical direction of the best-fit reference ball center in the probe performance test. A two-latitude sampling plan synthesis method based on a pretravel model for touch trigger probes is proposed in this paper. The proposed method can be used to accurately identify the reference ball center in the performance test of touch trigger probes.  相似文献

Recently, High Performance Computing (HPC) platforms have been employed to realize many computationally demanding applications in signal and image processing. These applications require real-time performance constraints to be met. These constraints include latency as well as throughput. In order to meet these performance requirements, efficient parallel algorithms are needed. These algorithms must be engineered to exploit the computational characteristics of such applications. In this paper we present a methodology for mapping a class of adaptive signal processing applications onto HPC platforms such that the throughput performance is optimized. We first define a new task model using the salient computational characteristics of a class of adaptive signal processing applications. Based on this task model, we propose a new execution model. In the earlier linear pipelined execution model, the task mapping choices were restricted. The new model permits flexible task mapping choices, leading to improved throughput performance compared with the previous model. Using the new model, a three-step task mapping methodology is developed. It consists of (1) a data remapping step, (2) a coarse resource allocation step, and (3) a fine performance tuning step. The methodology is demonstrated by designing parallel algorithms for modern radar and sonar signal processing applications. These are implemented on IBM SP2 and Cray T3E, state-of-the-art HPC platforms, to show the effectiveness of our approach. Experimental results show significant performance improvement over those obtained by previous approaches. Our code is written using C and the Message Passing Interface (MPI). 蒲石河工程下水库大坝顶部混凝土护栏位于坝顶临空边沿,钢筋绑扎和模板支立作业难度大,施工时存在安全隐患。为此,蒲石河工程设计了移动台车栏板辅助浇筑系统并成功应用。实践表明,作业台车设计可靠、安全稳定、操作简便、定位准确、移动方便,保障了施工人员人身安全,节约了成本,加快了工期,提高了模板支立质量,值得类似工程借鉴并推广使用。  相似文献

The paper attempts to list the most important fields in which research on human factors in road transport is required.

The importance of improving the efficiency of road transport is emphasized, and the figures for road casualties are quoted to demonstrate the need to study the behaviour of cyclists, motor-cyclists and pedestrians as well as motorists.

The problems on which research is required are grouped under the six headings of perception, communication of information, control of the vehicle, comfort, protection of occupants, and behaviour of drivers. Subjects regarded as of particular interest are (1) the communication of information to the driver, (2) the design of the vehicle to improve control by the driver, (3) crash injury protection for the motorist and for the motor-cyclist, and (4) the study of the driving task.  相似文献
