Testing kinetic models against a “true” and detailed kinetic expression was the aim of the Workshop on Kinetic Model Development at the Denver AIChE Meeting in August, 1983. For this purpose an artificial reaction mechanism was created, based on the known thermodynamics of the methanol synthesis as a framework. The kinetic rate laws, that were derived from this mechanism, were made thermodynamically consistent by achieving agreement between equilibrium constants calculated at various temperatures from the given, real original thermodynamic relationship and those calculated from the detailed reversible kinetic expressions.

Using the artificial kinetics as the "true" one, CSTR experiments were simulated. The results of a statistically designed set of experiments were published after 5% random error was added to the data. Participation was invited for all interested to correlate the data, develop kinetic models and to calculate the performance of the specified reactor.

The results of 19 submitted entries are summarized with the conclusion that the models had more differences than were expected, but their predictive values were not as different as was anticipated, if the extreme high production rates due to thermal runaways are not considered. This in turn points out the necessity to check models experimentally, in pilot plant, not only for predicted optimum, but also for calculated runaway conditions. Models which did not capture the true character of this reaction failed to predict the onset of runaway reactions.  相似文献

The disinfection effects of the ozone molecule alone and that of ozone decomposition products when inactivating Giardia muris cysts were investigated at bench-scale using two different ozone demand-free laboratory buffer systems. The first water was a 0.05 M phosphate buffer with hydrogen peroxide added at a 10:1 weight ratio. The second water was a 0.05 M phosphate – 0.01 M bicarbonate buffer which quickly scavenged radical species from ozone decomposition. The C3H/HeN mouse model was used to assess the infectivity of ozone treated cysts.

The phosphate-bicarbonate buffer system had significantly greater (P ≤ 0.05) inactivation of G. muris cysts than that observed in the phosphate buffer – peroxide system where ozone was completely decomposed in less than 120 s. Consequently, the design of ozone disinfection processes should maintain ozone residual for disinfection prior to the addition of hydrogen peroxide for the oxidation of other compounds.  相似文献

Microporous hollow fiber gas-liquid membrane contactors have a fixed and well-defined gas-liquid interfacial area. The liquid flow through the hollow fiber is laminar, thus the liquid side hydrodynamics are well known. This allows the accurate calculation of the fiber side physical mass transfer coefficient from first principles. Moreover, in the case of gas-liquid membrane contactor, the gas-liquid exposure time can be varied easily and independently without disturbing the gas-liquid interfacial area. These features of the hollow fiber membrane contactor make it very suitable as a gas-liquid model contactor and offer numerous advantages over the conventional model contactors. The applicability and the limitations of this novel model contactor for the determination of physico-chemical properties of non-reactive and reactive gas-liquid systems are investigated in the present work. Absorption of CO2 into water and into aqueous NaOH solutions are chosen as model systems to determine the physico-chemical properties for non-reactive and reactive conditions, respectively. The experimental findings for these systems show that a hollow fiber membrane contactor can be used successfully as a model contactor for the determination of various gas-liquid physico-chemical properties. Moreover, since the membrane contactor facilitates indirect contact between the two phases, the application of hollow fiber model contactor can possibly be extended to liquid-liquid systems and/or heterogeneous catalyzed gas-liquid systems.  相似文献

An adaptive control algorithm for open-loop stable, constrained, linear, multiple input multiple output systems is presented. The proposed approach can deal with both input and output constraints, as well as measurement noise and output disturbances. The adaptive controller consists of an iterative set membership identification algorithm, that provides a set of candidate plant models at each time step, and a model predictive controller, that enforces input and output constraints for all the plants inside the model set. The algorithm relies only on the solution of standard convex optimization problems that are guaranteed to be recursively feasible. The experimental results obtained by applying the proposed controller to a quad-tank testbed are presented.  相似文献

ContextAdvances in customization have highlighted the need for tools supporting variable content document management and generation in many domains. Current tools allow the generation of highly customized documents that are variable in both content and layout. However, most frameworks are technology-oriented, and their use requires advanced skills in implementation-related tools, which means their use by end users (i.e. document designers) is severely limited.ObjectiveStarting from past and current trends for customized document authoring, our goal is to provide a document generation alternative in which variants are specified at a high level of abstraction and content reuse can be maximized in high variability scenarios.MethodBased on our experience in Document Engineering, we identified areas in the variable content document management and generation field open to further improvement. We first classified the primary sources of variability in document composition processes and then developed a methodology, which we called DPL – based on Software Product Lines principles – to support document generation in high variability scenarios.ResultsIn order to validate the applicability of our methodology we implemented a tool – DPLfw – to carry out DPL processes. After using this in different scenarios, we compared our proposal with other state-of-the-art tools for variable content document management and generation.ConclusionThe DPLfw showed a good capacity for the automatic generation of variable content documents equal to or in some cases surpassing other currently available approaches. To the best of our knowledge, DPLfw is the only framework that combines variable content and document workflow facilities, easing the generation of variable content documents in which multiple actors play different roles.  相似文献

The immobilization and consolidation of model coatings based on monodisperse polystyrene (plastic pigment) and S/B latexes of known particle sizes were studied in terms of their packing volumes and the extent of latex shrinkage, which was found to increase with increasing pigment volume up to the critical pigment volume concentration (CPVC). The maximum latex shrinkage was estimated from the CPVC. Then, the porosity of model coatings was calculated based on three proposed latex shrinkage models: maximum, minimum, and linearly decreasing latex shrinkage. The number of pores and the average equivalent spherical pore diameters were subsequently calculated. The opacity and gloss of model coatings on polyester films were measured and their porosity was also determined by a simple coat weight-thickness method. The CPVC values determined by the opacity, gloss, and porosity versus PVC relationships, respectively, agreed very well with each other. The CPVCs determined by the opacity and porosity versus PVC curves were identical. The comparison between the theoretically calculated and experimental porosity values showed that the linearly decreasing value between the maximum and minimum latex shrinkage would best fit the experimental porosity data. The effect of plastic pigment particle size on the optical properties and porosity of model coatings was also studied and it was observed that the coating opacity and porosity increased with increasing plastic pigment particle size, but the gloss decreased. Additionally, a minimum crack-free temperature (MCFT) of latex-bound coatings was proposed to better predict the behaviors of latexes as pigment binders. The wet state of model coating dispersions, the surfaces of consolidated model coatings, and their internal structure were examined by both electron and atomic force microscopy, and their micrographs were found to be consistent with our immobilization and consolidation models.  相似文献

The viscoelastic and peeling properties of polybutadiene/tackifying resin compatible blends have been studied in detail. Viscoelastic properties have been described through the variations of the complex shear modulus, G*(ω), as a function of frequency, ω and peeling properties through the variations of peeling force (F) as a function of peeling rate (V).

After showing the objective character of the peeling curves obtained, the variations of the peeling force and peeling geometry have been studied as a function of volume fraction of the tackifying resin.

In this first paper, the analysis is focused on the first domain of the peeling curves, i.e. the cohesive fracture region. In this region, the peeling properties have been related to the viscoelastic properties in the terminal region of relaxation. It is shown that the longest relaxation time, τo, is a reducing parameter of the peeling curves, so a peeling master curve-which is independent of temperature, resin volume fraction and polymer molecular weight-may be defined. Furthermore, the variations of the test geometry as a function of peeling rate have been investigated: the variations of the radius of curvature of the aluminium foil have been analyzed with respect to the viscoelastic behavior of the adhesive, which in fact governs the test geometry.

A detailed analysis of all these features leads to a model which allows one to calculate the peeling curves in the cohesive domain from the adhesive formulation.  相似文献

A model representing the wet-end section of a paper mill has been developed to characterize its dynamic behavior during the grade change. The model is based on the mass balance relationships written for the simplified wetend white water network. From the linearization of the dynamic model, higher-order Laplace transfer functions were obtained followed by the reduction procedure to give simple lower-order models in the form of 1st-order or 2nd-order plus dead times. The dynamic response of the wet-end is influenced both by the white water volume and by the level of wire retention. Effects of key manipulated variables such as the thick stock flow rate, the ash flow rate and the retention aid flow rate on the major controlled variables were analyzed by numerical simulations. The simple dynamic model developed in the present study can be effectively used in the operation and control.
