Statistical process control (SPC) is one of the most practical and widely used tools to enhance product quality and reduce costs. However, the implementation of SPC has often resulted in unsatisfactory performance; moreover, there is no well-established standard for evaluation of the results of introducing the system. The present study addresses this problem by proposing an effective and convenient performance-evaluation model for implementing SPC. The proposed model draws on the DMAIC methodology of Six Sigma, the performance-evaluation model of Lin et al. (Lin, W.T., Liu, C.H., Hsu, I.C., and Lai, C.T., 2004. An empirical study of QS 9000 in the automobile and related industries in Taiwan. Total Quality Management, 15 (3), 335–378), and the fuzzy mathematical programming of Kaufmann and Gupta (Kaufmann, A. and Gupta, M.M., 1991. Introduction to fuzzy arithmetic: theory and application. New York: Van Nostrand Reinhold) to define the fuzzy indices and control values of importance, action, and performance in developing the proposed performance-evaluation model. The model is then applied in a case study of a Taiwanese liquid crystal display manufacturer. A questionnaire is designed to establish fuzzy indices of importance, action, and performance values for assessment by analytic hierarchy process methodology. Various critical factors and feasible improvement strategies are then compared (using computed weights) to determine the priority of the improvement strategies. To verify improvement, the same model is used to re-evaluate system control performance after implementing the improvement strategies for some time. The study demonstrates that the proposed model is an effective and convenient tool that can be used to analyse and improve the performance of an existing SPC system or to enhance success in implementing a new SPC system while working within constraints of time and costs.  相似文献

This study integrates importance–performance analysis (IPA) and Slack's IPA matrix to provide a more comprehensive performance‐evaluation matrix for prioritizing improvement actions with regard to the tools and techniques of quality improvement. The study undertakes a review of the literature to identify the tools and techniques most widely used by high‐tech businesses in Taiwan. Following a survey of 394 managers and technicians, these tools and techniques are then placed on the integrated performance‐evaluation matrix to determine appropriate priorities for improvement actions. The study finds that “new seven” total quality management tools are used less often than “old seven” total quality management tools, and that education, training, and the efficient use of corporate resources are required to improve the frequency of utilization and the performance of the tools and techniques of quality improvement. © 2011Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Current and forecasted world economic trends call for an examination of traditional management organizational behavior. Changes in organizational behavior require a downward decision-making responsibility transfer. An examination of human motivational theories and experimental data provides insight into this needed decision transfer.

A decision impact model of current operational management trends is presented. The model shows the necessity for streamlining the traditional organization in an effort to accommodate rapidly changing technology and increase organizational competitiveness. Following a total quality management (TQM) approach and the EFQM Model framework, this contribution aims to study the influence of TQM social factors on organisational results, by considering the TQM technical factors as a mediating variable in this relationship. Moreover, the effect of size and type of business on the implementation of TQM and results is analysed, as well as determining which TQM practices have a more important effect on the operational results. The research questions and hypotheses proposed in this research model are tested on a sample of 116 Spanish firms. The results support the reliability, validity and the high-predictive power of the EFQM Excellence Model as a framework for the implementation of TQM. Moreover, our findings indicate that TQM social factors provide a cornerstone for the success of the quality system. Similarly, TQM technical factors partially mediate the relationship between TQM social factors and results. It was also found that TQM social factors and processes management are the main predictors of operational performance. Finally, significant differences were found in TQM implementation, and in the key results of companies, based on their size; however, these differences are not significant based on the sector activity.  相似文献

Empirical evidence shows that profitability does not always rise when lean management (LM) is implemented. This paper reviews the literature that has empirically analysed how LM impacts financial performance in order to identify the most used assessment model and the direction and significance of the findings. We have found that the most comprehensive models, those considering financial and operational indicators and contextual factors, find a positive and significant impact of LM on financial performance. These findings can benefit managers requiring an assessment of LM and the building of an evaluation system and can serve as a guideline for monitoring LM implementation.  相似文献
