APA membership trends and fields of specialization of psychologists earning doctoral degrees between 1959 and 1962.

"This report describes general trends in APA affiliation for 1959-62 doctoral degree recipients in various psychological specialties. A total of 3285 individuals reported earning doctorates in psychology during that time (1959-1962), and NAS-NRC estimates that these data include more than 99% of potential Ss. Psychology appears to be headed toward a production of around 1000 doctorates/year with something less than 200 of these being women. Other consistent trends appear to be a steady increase in clinicians, the emergence of personality psychology as a specialty, and the gradual disappearance of psychologists who label themselves 'general' or 'other' at the time the doctoral degree is granted. APA eventually attracts close to 90% of everyone who achieves a doctoral degree in psychology." The clinical group is largest with an above average proportion of APA members; the experimental group (including comparative and physiological) has a somewhat lower than average proportion of APA members. From the ground up: Building a psychology of women internship track.

Where can a graduate student interested in a specialty track in the psychology of women apply for internship? Until recently, there was no American Psychological Association (APA)-approved internship site in the United States offering such an experience. In addition to the generalist training that typifies APA internships, the internship year also presents an opportunity for specialization. If internship sites are to produce psychologists well equipped to address women's unique mental health needs, then it is vital to create opportunities for trainees to specialize in the psychology of women while on internship. This article describes the development of a Psychology of Women Track as part of a predoctoral internship program, including the context of the track, the specific training experiences included in the track, and a conceptual model of psychology of women training that can be used at other internship sites. A role of an entity can be defined as the set of properties that are important for an object in order to behave in a certain way, as expected by a set of other objects. A role model is a software that specifies a style of designing and implementing roles. This paper evaluates roles in the context of modeling dynamic systems by examining its foundations, surveying the recent role models available for academic use and giving implementation examples. Adjustment mechanisms of Greek regions in export activity during the economic crisis of 2008–2012

Under the deep and protracted recession that plagues the Greek regions, exports have shown some positive signs of resilience. This paper explores through a spatial econometric analysis of SUR models, first, the changes that occurred in exports by the (NUTS 3 level) regions for the period 2008–2012 to offer resistance against the crisis and to stimulate growth, which entail expansion of export demand, improvement in the quality of agricultural products, deeper specialization in broad low-technology sectors and simultaneous increases in the variety inside these sectors and second, the ability of exports to transfer their growth gains to the broader economy.

Induction Over the Unexplained: Using Overly-General Domain Theories to Aid Concept Learning

This paper describes and evaluates an approach to combining empirical and explanation-based learning called Induction Over the Unexplained (IOU). IOU is intended for learning concepts that can be partially explained by an overly-general domain theory. An eclectic evaluation of the method is presented which includes results from all three major approaches: empirical, theoretical, and psychological. Empirical results show that IOU is effective at refining overly-general domain theories and that it learns more accurate concepts from fewer examples than a purely empirical approach. The application of theoretical results from PAC learnability theory explains why IOU requires fewer examples. IOU is also shown to be able to model psychological data demonstrating the effect of background knowledge on human learning.
