An operational global soil moisture data product is currently generated from the observations of the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR-E) aboard NASA's Aqua satellite using the retrieval procedure described in Njoku and Chan [Njoku, E.G. and Chan, S.K., 2006. Vegetation and surface roughness effects on AMSR-E land observations, remote sensing environment, 100(2), 190-199]. We have generated another soil moisture dataset from the same AMSR-E observed brightness temperature data using the Land Surface Microwave Emission Model (LSMEM) adopting a different estimation method. This paper focuses on a comparison study of soil moisture estimates from the above two methods. The soil moisture data from current AMSR-E product and LSMEM are compared with the in-situ measured soil moisture datasets over the Little River Experimental Watershed (LREW), Georgia, USA for the year 2003. The comparison study was carried out separately for the AMSR-E daytime and night time overpasses. The LSMEM method performed better than the current operational AMSR-E retrieval algorithm in this study. The differences between the AMSR-E and LSMEM results are mostly due to differences in various simplifications and assumptions made for variables in the radiative transfer equations and the soil and vegetation based physical models and the accuracy of the input surface temperature datasets for the LSMEM forward model approach. This study confirms that remote sensing data have the potential to provide useful hydrologic information, but the accuracy of the geophysical parameters could vary depending on the estimation methods. It cannot be concluded from this study whether the soil moisture estimation by the LSMEM approach will perform better in other geographic, climatic or topographic conditions. Nevertheless, this study sheds light on the effects of different approaches for the estimation of geophysical parameters, which may be useful for current and future satellite missions.  相似文献

Multiple sclerosis is characterized by inflammatory demyelination and axonal loss as pathophysiological correlates of relapsing activity and progressive development of clinical disability. The molecular processes involved in this pathogenesis are still unclear as they are quite complex and heterogeneous. In this article we present protein expression analysis of brain and spinal cord tissues from different models of murine experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), the most commonly used animal model for multiple sclerosis. We observed a number of EAE-specific protein expression and PTM differences. Proteome analysis was extended to multiple sclerosis specimens in order to validate the EAE findings. Our findings suggest the regulation of a number of proteins that shed light on the molecular mechanisms of the disease processes taking place in EAE and multiple sclerosis. We found consistent modulation of proteins including serum amyloid P component, sirtuin 2, dihydropyrimidinase-related protein family proteins, stathmin 1, creatine kinase B and chloride intracellular channel protein 1. Functional classification of the proteins by database and the literature mining reveals their association with neuronal development and myelinogenesis, suggesting possible disease processes that mediate neurodegeneration.  相似文献

A modern problem from aerospace control involves the certification of a large set of potential controllers with either a single plant or a fleet of potential plant systems, with both plants and controllers being MIMO and, for the moment, linear. Experiments on a limited number of controller/plant pairs should establish the stability and a certain level of margin of the complete set. We consider this certification problem for a set of controllers and provide algorithms for selecting an efficient subset for testing. This is done for a finite set of candidate controllers and, at least for SISO plants, for compact infinite set. In doing this, the ν-gap metric will be the main tool. Computational examples are given, including one of certification of an aircraft engine controller. The overarching aim is to introduce truly MIMO margin calculations and to understand their efficacy in certifying stability over a set of controllers and in replacing legacy single-loop gain and phase margin calculations.  相似文献

The different steps of development of chemically induced brain tumors were investigated in rats by MRI using a superparamagnetic contrast agent, magnetite-dextran nanoparticles (MD3). Sprague-Dawley strain pregnant female rats were injected intravenously with ethynitrosourea solution at the end of pregnancy. Offspring whelped by the inoculated mother were followed. MRI examinations were performed at 0.5 T. MD3 nanoparticles were injected intravenously at a dose of 5 mg Fe kg-1 body weight 30 min before rat sacrifice. After sacrifice, histological slices were stained with hematoxylin-eosin. Relaxation times were measured at 40 MHz and 37°. MD3 nanoparticles act differently according to the step of the tumor development. Before tumor appearance, at a step characterized by the presence of abnormal cell clusters, relaxation time T2 increased significantly. The T2-weighted image showed a small increase in signal intensity in the lesion. Image contrast was improved by MD3 nanoparticles injection because of the decrease in healthy tissue signal intensity. The Tl-weighted image did not provide any additional information. In presence of a minute tumor, relaxation times decreased in tumor but increased in surrounding tissue. The Tl-weighted image showed a hypersignal on the border of an hyposignal. T2-weighted image showed a hypersignal in the same area. Signal intensity was not modified after MD3 nanoparticles injection. When new vascular capillaries developed in the tumor, MD3 nanoparticles cross into the cerebral parenchyma. Transmission electron microscopy showed magnetite crystals in this specific area on cytoplasm vesicles of glial cells and in tumor-specific membrane arrangements. On T2-weighted image, the hypersignal consisted of a well defined part and a second more fuzzy part, its signal being extinguished after MD3 nanoparticles injection. Necrotic areas and edema can be discriminated. The use of such a superparamagnetic contrast agent would be helpful in early detection of tumor development and in improving distinction of tumor mass from its vascular environment in patients. © 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. We present improved variations of the BNDM algorithm for exact string matching. At each alignment our bit-parallel algorithms process a q-gram before testing the state variable. In addition we apply reading a 2-gram in one instruction. Our point of view is practical efficiency of algorithms. Our experiments show that the new variations are faster than earlier algorithms in many cases.  相似文献
