Information technology support in the chemical process design life cycle

Information technology has been becoming increasingly important in all areas of engineering during the last few years. Much of the progress achieved in chemical engineering would not have been possible without the enabling methods and tools provided by information technology. This trend will continue in the future but most likely with a considerably wider scope. While individual software tools and services have been in focus until recently, their integration into engineering work processes is an emerging and challenging area of research and development. This contribution attempts to highlight state of the art and future trends in supporting the activities during the life cycle of a chemical process by means of information technology. Emphasis will be largely on the process and plant design process rather than on procurement, manufacturing, and distribution of materials in the supply chain.     

一种油量在机车信息平台中实时显示的方法

介绍了在运输部信息平台中实现油量实时显示的过程。油量传感器产生的电流模拟信号分成两路，一路传给无纸记录仪，另一路经过电压转变后送至信息平台的状态监测仪，经过状态监测仪的G2002B板处理后通过串口传给工控机，在信息平台上实现油量的实时显示，作用除了提醒司机适时加油以外，更重要的是判断机车作业的油耗情况。     

在西文DOS下汉字的一种快速显示技术

作为存储测试系统配套的信息处理软件,有一个直观的汉字界面显的非常必要,本文介绍一种在西文DOS下快速显示汉字的处理技术:由信息处理软件原程序中的汉字信息通过访问硬盘汉字库生成,由所需显示汉字点阵构成具有专用格式的专用汉字库,通过软件编程可实现对汉字库的快速访问与快速显示。从而,即节省磁盘空间,又能使信息处理软件与汉字显示很好地溶为一体。     

On principal component analysis, cosine and Euclidean measures in information retrieval

Clustering groups document objects represented as vectors. An extensive vector space may cause obstacles to applying these methods. Therefore, the vector space was reduced with principal component analysis (PCA). The conventional cosine measure is not the only choice with PCA, which involves the mean-correction of data. Since mean-correction changes the location of the origin, the angles between the document vectors also change. To avoid this, we used a connection between the cosine measure and the Euclidean distance in association with PCA, and grounded searching on the latter. We applied the single and complete linkage and Ward clustering to Finnish documents utilizing their relevance assessment as a new feature. After the normalization of the data PCA was run and relevant documents were clustered.     

Does positive affect influence the effective usage of a Decision Support System?

This study examines the impact of positive mood on the effective usage of a Decision Support System (DSS). Using current cognitive theories, a theoretical argument about DSS usage is developed. This argument is then investigated via a lab experiment. The results of the lab experiment show that decision makers in positive mood used a greater number of informational cues provided by the DSS and made more accurate judgments.

Information cut for clustering using a gradient descent approach

We introduce a new graph cut for clustering which we call the Information Cut. It is derived using Parzen windowing to estimate an information theoretic distance measure between probability density functions. We propose to optimize the Information Cut using a gradient descent-based approach. Our algorithm has several advantages compared to many other graph-based methods in terms of determining an appropriate affinity measure, computational complexity, memory requirements and coping with different data scales. We show that our method may produce clustering and image segmentation results comparable or better than the state-of-the art graph-based methods.     

Ontology-Centered Knowledge Management Using Information Retrieval Techniques

The paper argues that an effective solution to information and knowledge management (KM) needs of practitioners in the construction industry can be found in the provision of an adapted knowledge environment that makes use of user profiling and document summarization techniques based on information retrieval sciences. The conceptualization of the domain through ontology takes a pivotal role in the proposed knowledge environment and provides a semantic referential to ensure relevance, accuracy, and completeness of information. A set of KM services articulated around the selected ontology have been developed, using the Web services model, tested, and validated in real organizational settings. This provided the basis for formulating recommendations and key success factors for any KM project development.
