An alternative approach to understanding innovation is made using two intersecting ideas. The first is that successful innovation requires consideration of the social and organizational contexts in which it is located. The complex context of construction work is characterized by inter-organizational collaboration, a project-based approach and power distributed amongst collaborating organizations. The second is that innovations can be divided into two modes: 'bounded', where the implications of innovation are restricted within a single, coherent sphere of influence, and 'unbounded', where the effects of implementation spill over beyond this. Bounded innovations are adequately explained within the construction literature. However, less discussed are unbounded innovations, where many firms' collaboration is required for successful implementation, even though many innovations can be considered unbounded within construction's inter-organizational context. It is argued that unbounded innovations require an approach to understand and facilitate the interactions both within a range of actors and between the actors and technological artefacts. The insights from a sociology of technology approach can be applied to the multiplicity of negotiations and alignments that constitute the implementation of unbounded innovation. The utility of concepts from the sociology of technology, including 'system building' and 'heterogeneous engineering', is demonstrated by applying them to an empirical study of an unbounded innovation on a major construction project (the new terminal at Heathrow Airport, London, UK). This study suggests that 'system building' contains outcomes that are not only transformations of practices, processes and systems, but also the potential transformation of technologies themselves. 相似文献

In this paper, we discuss average consensus problem in undirected networks of dynamic agents with fixed and switching topologies as well as multiple time-varying communication delays. By employing a linear matrix inequality method, we prove that all the nodes in the network achieve average consensus asymptotically for appropriate communication delays if the network topology is connected. Particularly, several feasible linear matrix inequalities are established to determine the maximal allowable upper bound of time-varying communication delays. Numerical examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness and the sharpness of the theoretical results. 相似文献

Based on the optimal fusion estimation algorithm weighted by scalars in the linear minimum variance sense, a distributed optimal fusion Kalman filter weighted by scalars is presented for discrete‐time stochastic singular systems with multiple sensors and correlated noises. A cross‐covariance matrix of filtering errors between any two sensors is derived. When the noise statistical information is unknown, a distributed identification approach is presented based on correlation functions and the weighted average method. Further, a distributed self‐tuning fusion filter is given, which includes two stage fusions where the first‐stage fusion is used to identify the noise covariance and the second‐stage fusion is used to obtain the fusion state filter. Mate selection plays a crucial role in both natural and artificial systems. While traditional Evolutionary Algorithms (EA)
usually engage in random mating strategies, that is, mating chance is independent of genotypic or phenotypic distance between
individuals, in natural systems non-random mating is common, which means that somehow this mechanism has been favored during
the evolutionary process. In non-random mating, the individuals mate according to their parenthood or likeness. Previous studies
indicate that negative assortative mating (AM)—also known as dissortative mating—, which is a specific type of non-random mating, may improve EAs performance by maintaining the genetic diversity of the
population at a higher level during the search process. In this paper we present the Variable Dissortative Mating Genetic Algorithm (VDMGA). The algorithm holds a mechanism that varies the GA’s mating restrictions during the run by means of simple rule
based on the number of chromosomes created in each generation and indirectly influenced by the genetic diversity of the population.
We compare VDMGA not only with traditional Genetic Algorithms (GA) but also with two preceding non-random mating EAs: the
CHC algorithm and the negative Assortative Mating Genetic Algorithm (nAMGA). We intend to study the effects of the different methods in the performance of GAs and verify the reliability of
the proposed algorithm when facing an heterogeneous set of landscapes. In addition, we include the positive Assortative Mating Genetic Algorithm (pAMGA) in the experiments in order test both negative and positive AM mechanisms, and try to understand if and when negative
AM (or DM) speeds up the search process or enables the GAs to escape local optima traps. For these purposes, an extensive
set of optimization test problems was chosen to cover a variety of search landscapes with different characteristics. Our results
confirm that negative AM is effective in leading EAs out of local optima traps, and show that the proposed VDMGA is at least
as efficient as nAMGA when applied to the range of our problems, being more efficient in very hard functions were traditional
GAs usually fail to escape local optima. Also, scalability tests have been made that show VDMGA ability to decrease optimal
population size, thus reducing the amount of evaluations needed to attain global optima. We like to stress that only two parameters
need to be hand-tuned in VDMGA, thus reducing the tuning effort present in traditional GAs and nAMGA. 相似文献

He and Grigoryan (Quality and Reliability Engineering International 2002; 18 :343–355) formulated the design of a double‐sampling (DS) s control chart as an optimization problem and solved it with a genetic algorithm. They concluded that the DS s control charts can be a more economically preferable alternative in detecting small shifts than traditional s control charts. It is hard to implement the ADI method in an efficient way on distributed-memory parallel computers. We propose “P-scheme” which parallelizes a tridiagonal linear system of equations for the ADI method, but its effectiveness is limited to the cases where the problem size is large enough mainly because of the communication cost of the propagation phase of the scheme.
In order to overcome this difficulty, we propose an improved version of the P-scheme with “message vectorization” which aggregates several communication messages into one and alleviates the communication cost. Also we evaluate the effectiveness of message vectorization for the ADI method and show that the improved version of the P-scheme works well even for smaller problems and linear and super-linear speedups can be achieved for 8194 × 8194 and 16,386 × 16,386 problems, respectively. 相似文献

The main difficulty with EM algorithm for mixture model concerns the number of components, say g. This is the question of model selection, and the EM algorithm itself could not estimate g. On the contrary, the algorithm requires g to be specified before the remaining parameters can be estimated. To solve this problem, a new algorithm, which is called stepwise split-and-merge EM (SSMEM) algorithm, is proposed. The SSMEM algorithm alternately splits and merges components, estimating g and other parameters of components simultaneously. Also, two novel criteria are introduced to efficiently select the components for split or merge.
