The 2004 Gold Medal Award for Life Achievement in the Application of Psychology was awarded to Edwin A. Fleishman, for his significant contributions to the science and applications of psychology, which he has sustained over his remarkable career. He is cited for his research, which has had a profound influence on our understanding of human capabilities, their measurement, their development, and their application in the world of work. Through his many influential leadership roles, as president of the International Association of Applied Psychology and three divisions of the American Psychological Association, and as editor of the Journal of Applied Psychology, he has helped shape our profession. The influence of various reaction parameters on the performance of (α‐diimine)nickel(II) catalysts in ethylene oligomerization reactions

Modified (α‐diimine)nickel(II) catalysts are suitable for ethylene oligomerization reactions. Due to the mechanism (“chain running”), the formation of double‐bond isomers and branched olefins can be observed. The obtained oligomer mixtures show a Schulz–Flory distribution. Increasing ethylene pressure favors the selectivity of α‐olefin formation. The same effect can be observed when Lewis bases like thiophene or furane are added to the oligomerization reaction mixture. These results can be related to an interaction of the additives with the catalytic active species during the oligomerization process. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 水环境标准与水资源的可持续发展

从中国水资源严重短缺的现状出发,介绍我国水环境标准体系及现阶段的实施情况,论述水环境标准与可持续发展理论在实施过程中互为条件、互相促进的辩证关系:水环境标准是实施水资源可持续发展战略的前提和保障;可持续发展战略促进水环境标准日臻健全、完善。分析我国水环境标准与可持续发展论的差距,提出今后需进一步完善水环境标准的改进对策。     

小浪底水库坝前漏斗区泥沙测验分析

小浪底水库坝前漏斗区的形成和发展,直接影响到枢纽建筑物的安全运行。为了保持塔前“门前清,”掌握坝前漏斗区的形成和发展,保证水库进入拦沙后期和正常运用期的正常运用,对坝前漏斗区进行了泥沙测验分析。结果表明:目前漏斗区范围内纵向坡度较缓,尚没有明显的漏斗形成,仅在坝前和塔前200m×1000m范围形成了漏斗雏形。     

高吸水性树脂吸水率测定条件的研究

通过自然过滤法在不同条件下测定了淀粉接枝丙烯酸高吸水性树脂的吸水率，实验给出了该方法测定吸水率的最佳条件，即：滤袋网孔尺寸为0.180～0．280mm，树脂质量约0．3g，加水量约500mL，吸水时间≥2h，沥水时间≥50min。     

陶瓷行业推行ISO14000探析

大力推行ISO14000系列标准已成为我国陶瓷企业适应加入WTO后新的竞争形式，参与国际绿色贸易的有力武器。本文根据我国陶瓷企业的现状，分析了在陶瓷行业推行ISO14000系列标准工作中所存在的问题，提出了在我国陶瓷行业广泛推行ISO14000系列标准的对策和建议。

MITI projects on recycling

MITI has actively done R&D on industrial technology for waste and reclamation and so there are many research items from small scale to large scale. However, Ecofactory and researches on recycling of metallic materials are introduced here. Ecofactory was proposed by the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory and is now at the stage of the Leading Research, a new research scheme in AISt. Researches on recycling of metallic materials are being done with subsidy. Appraisal as a Pervasive Determinant of Anger.

L. Berkowitz and E. Harmon-Jones (see record 2004-15096-001) challenge appraisal theories of emotion by describing 2 sets of conditions (physical discomfort and anger-related muscle actions) in which anger appears to be elicited in the absence of theoretically predicted appraisals. In response, the authors discuss the ability of the specific appraisal model they have developed (e.g., C. A. Smith & L. D. Kirby, 2000, 2001; C. A. Smith & R. S. Lazarus, 1990) to account for such instances of anger. First, a number of issues are clarified relevant to the authors' model, including the nature of both the cognitive operations underlying appraisal and the specific appraisals hypothesized to evoke anger. The authors then describe how their model can account for the instances of anger described by L. Berkowitz and E. Harmon-Jones and how both accounts might be tested.
