Titanium alloy metal matrix composites reinforced with silicon carbide fibre are being evaluated for a range of highly loaded aerospace applications. Although expensive, if used selectively they can have a dramatic effect on performance and weight. The SMC has one of the strongest capabilities in Europe for the development and production of titanium fibre reinforced MMCs. Consisting of the DRA Sigma silicon carbide fibre manufacturing facility, producing fibre on a commercial basis, and the manufacture of titanium alloy MMCs in commercial quantities by the foil fibre route, and at pilot scale using the alternative matrix coated fibre route. In the foil fibre route a filament winding and fugitive binder method is used to produce a range of component shapes with excellent fibre distribution and consistent properties. The matrix coated fibre process is seen to have advantages over the alternative methods and is likely to become an important manufacturing route for titanium MMCs, particularly for exotic high temperature titanium alloys and intermetallics, and for shapes such as rings, tubes and shafts. As no titanium MMCs components have yet reached full production, it is unclear which of these fabrication methods will become commercially viable, if any. The problem of understanding the transfer of fibres between carding-machine surfaces is addressed by considering the movement of a single fibre in an airflow. The structure of the aerodynamic flow field predicts how and when fibres migrate between the different process surfaces. In the case of a revolving-flats carding machine the theory predicts a “strong” aerodynamic mechanism between taker-in and cylinder and a “weak” mechanism between cylinder and removal cylinder resulting in effective transfer in the first case and a more limited transfer in the second. 相似文献

This paper presents a theoretical model to simulate the behaviour of RC beams strengthened with multilayered CFRP matrix allowing for inter-layer slip. An element of the composite beam is assumed to be subjected to a system of forces that satisfy equilibrium and compatibility of deformations. The inter-layer slip is allowed for by relating the differential strain at the interfaces between the CFRP layers and the concrete to the longitudinal shear flow at the corresponding interface through the shear stiffness of the adhesive layer. The basic differential equations are derived in terms of displacement variables and solved numerically using finite differences. The results of the numerical simulation included slip values along the interfaces, maximum slip values, stresses and strains and deflections.
