The effects of ion implantation and subsequent annealing on the microstructure of molybdenum have been investigated by transmission electron microscopy. The ions investigated were carbon, nitrogen, and tellurium. The ion-induced damage was found to give rise to grain boundary migration phenomena both during implantation and during subsequent annealing. The ultrastructural diagnosis of tumors requires a careful analysis that should be done in an orderly fashion. It requires precise planning from the time of specimen collection to the selection of the area to be examined. Pictures must be taken systematically and every micrograph should allow to answer whether the number of cells photographed is adequate; whether mitoses are present, what is the pattern of the tumor; what is the appearance of the cell membrane; whether the cells are joined by junctional complexes; whether free surfaces possess microvilli or cilia; what organelles are present and how they are distributed; whether there are secretory granules, melanosomes, or other cytoplasmic elements. Nuclear and nucleolar size and shape have to be taken into consideration. The composition of the interstitial extracellular matrix is important in certain types of tumors. A methodology for evaluating the reactivity of titanium with mould materials during casting has been developed. Microhardness
profiles and analysis of oxygen contamination have provided an index for evaluation of the reactivity of titanium. Microhardness
profile delineates two distinct regions, one of which is characterised by a low value of hardness which is invariant with
distance. The reaction products are uniformly distributed in the metal in this region. The second is characterised by a sharp
decrease in microhardness with distance from the metal-mould interface. It represents a diffusion zone for solutes that dissolve
into titanium from the mould. The qualitative profiles for contaminants determined by scanning electron probe microanalyser
and secondary ion mass spectroscopy in the as-cast titanium were found to be similar to that of microhardness, implying that

Melting and crystallization behaviour of elastoplastic semicrystalline copolymers: poly(ether ester)
The melting and crystallization behaviour of an elastoplastic semi-crystalline poly(etherester) has been studied by differential scanning calorimetry. The shape of the melting endotherm is strongly dependent on heating rate and annealing time and results from the sum of simultaneous melting and crystallization phenomena. Samples prepared by different techniques, i.e. by solvent evaporation or by melt extrusion, behave very differently owing to specific crystal morphologies. By applying the Hoffman-Weeks plot, the equilibrium melting temperature has been extrapolated. A new ion beam analysis-based, single ion technique called the time to first photon has been developed to measure the decay of the luminescence signal of phosphors. Such measurements are currently needed to study luminescence decay mechanisms following high-density excitations and to identify strongly luminescent phosphor coatings with short lifetimes for ion photon emission microscopy (IPEM). The samples for this technique consist of thin phosphor layers placed or coated on the surface of PIN diodes. Single ions from an accelerator strike this sample and simultaneously create ion beam induced luminescence (IBIL) from the phosphor that is measured by a single-photon-detector, and an ion beam induced charge collection (IBICC) signal in the PIN diode. In this case, the IBICC signal provides the start pulse and the IBIL signal the stop pulse to a time to amplitude converter. It is straightforward to show that this approach also measures a signal proportional to activity versus time with an accuracy of 5% as long as the number of detected photons per ion is less than 0.1, which usually requires the use of absorbers for the IBIL detector or electronic discrimination for the IBIL signals. Details of the new analysis are given together with examples of luminescence decay measurements of several ceramic phosphors being considered to coat IPEM samples. IPEM is currently being developed at Sandia National Laboratory (SNL), the University of North Texas in Denton, and the Universities and INFN of Padova and Torino. 相似文献

Results are reported of research on intumescent composites based on epoxy resin cross‐linked with polyethylene polyamine and containing ammonium polyphosphate and such modifying additives as calcium borate, manganese dioxide, nickel, and chromium, containing tubulenes as gas‐formers and carbonization stimulators. The changes in composition and physicochemical properties of modified compositions under conditions of heat and fire were investigated by X‐ray photo‐electron spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, and local force spectroscopy. Ammonium polyphosphate mainly stimulates carbonization processes on the inner surface of a bubble being formed during foam coke formation. The introduction of metal‐containing tubulenes leads to the formation of fire‐retardant and low flammability‐compositions with high coke and carbon structures content.
