Poly (lactic acid) or polylactide (PLA) is an aliphatic thermoplastic polyester produced from renewable resources and is compostable in the environment. Because of the massive use of foamed products of petroleum-based polymers, PLA foams have been considered as substitutes for some of these products. Specifically, because of PLA's competitive material and processing costs, and its comparable mechanical properties, PLA foams could potentially replace polystyrene (PS) foam products in a wide array of applications such as packaging, cushioning, construction, thermal and sound insulation, and plastic utensils. Due to their biocompatibility, PLA foams can also be used in such biomedical applications as scaffolding and tissue engineering. But PLA has several inherent drawbacks, which inhibit the production of low-density foams with uniform cell morphology. These drawbacks are mainly the PLA's low melt strength and its slow crystallization kinetics. During the last two decades, researchers have investigated the fundamentals of PLA/gas mixtures, PLA foaming mechanisms, and the effects of material modification on PLA's foaming behavior through various manufacturing technologies. This article reviews these investigations and compares the developments made thus far in PLA foaming.  相似文献

The present study reports foaming of polycaprolactone (PCL) and PCL nano- and micro-composites with dispersed hydroxyapatite (HA) particles by means of binary mixtures of supercritical CO2 (scCO2) and either ethyl lactate (EL) or ethyl acetate (EA) as plasticizer. The effect of the size and concentration of HA particles, as well as the effects of the plasticizer type and the incorporation route were investigated aiming to fabricate porous scaffolds with uniform morphology and controlled pore size distribution. For this purpose, foaming experiments were carried out by selecting two operating temperatures, 40 and 45 °C, and two soaking times, 1 and 17 h. Furthermore, a double step of depressurization was used to promote the development of a double-scale pore size structure in porous scaffolds useful for tissue engineering.The results of this study indicated that supercritical foaming of PCL and PCL–HA composites is enhanced when the selected operating temperature and time are 45 °C and 17 h, respectively. Furthermore, although both EL and EA plasticizers enhanced the low temperature foaming of the materials, we demonstrated that the route of incorporation of the plasticizer is a critical aspect for enhancing composite foaming and scaffold fabrication. From this point of view, the best results were achieved when EA was pre-mixed with the polymeric powder for preparing a dough for the foaming process.  相似文献

采用流变、常规量筒法、扫描电镜及显微镜,研究了优选出的3种弱凝胶与SD发泡剂的复配体系的起泡性能、黏度、稳定性以及微观结构。结果表明,起泡剂与弱凝胶复配之后,体系的各项性能得到明显改善。复配体系半衰期增大,泡沫黏度增大,稳定性增强,明显优于单一体系。在弱凝胶与泡沫复合调驱体系中,凝胶易在气泡表面形成吸附膜,将泡沫包裹在内部,增强了气液界面的黏度,使得泡沫不容易发生聚并破裂,从而增强了泡沫的稳定性以及黏度,使得其半衰期也增大。  相似文献

Proximate composition and physicochemical properties of a protein concentrate prepared from fenugreek seed were determined. The effects of pH and/or NaCl concentration on these properties were investigated. The protein content of fenugreek was found to be 28.4%. The crude fibre content was 9.3% and crude fat was 7.1%. The minimum protein solubility was observed at pH 4.5, which was 18.5%, while maximum protein solubility was observed at pH 11, which was 91.3%.  相似文献

Two conductimetric methods, a semi-micro and a micro procedure, were assessed for the measurement of the foaming properties of protein solutions. The values for foam expansion and foam stability obtained by both methods correlated well with those determined by a standard whipping procedure. The highest correlations were obtained with the micro-conductimetric method using 0.1% protein solutions. Use of this protein concentration meant that only a few milligrams of protein were required for the assessment of foaming behaviour.  相似文献

A series of cationic gemini surfactants containing different spacer length were synthesized and analyzed structurally. It was shown that the surface tension (σ) and critical micelle concentration (CMC), which had a maximum for the n-C4H8 spacer depended on the spacer length. The foaming ability and foam stability are high for the gemini surfactants with short spacers (C2H4 to n-C4H8), while longer spacers lead to a distinct decrease of these foam parameters. Foaming properties are discussed in terms of configuration and conformation of a surfactant molecule and in relation to micellization state kinetic.  相似文献

Screening pure cultures of 65 mycolic acid producing bacteria (Mycolata) isolated mainly from activated sludge with a laboratory based foaming test revealed that not all foamed under the conditions used. However, for most, the data were generally consistent with the flotation theory as an explanation for foaming. Thus a stable foam required three components, air bubbles, surfactants and hydrophobic cells. With non-hydrophobic cells, an unstable foam was generated, and in the absence of surfactants, cells formed a greasy surface scum. Addition of surfactant converted a scumming population into one forming a stable foam. The ability to generate a foam depended on a threshold cell number, which varied between individual isolates and reduced markedly in the presence of surfactant. Consequently, the concept of a universal threshold applicable to all foaming Mycolata is not supported by these data. The role of surfactants in foaming is poorly understood, but evidence is presented for the first time that surfactin synthesised by Bacillus subtilis may be important.  相似文献

A rapid quantification method for bacteria in activated sludge has been developed, based on fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and epifluorescence microscopy. Samples are hybridized on slides and analyzed by direct microscopic observation. Abundance categories were designed based on digital images of the target organisms. These rating systems were developed for the filamentous bacteria Microthrix parvicella and for different morphotypes of nocardioform actinomycetes, but can easily be adapted to other types of microorganisms. Due to the quantification by direct microscopic observation, this method is suitable for samples that are difficult to be processed by semi-automated image analysis techniques, such as samples containing fluorescent debris, cells of different fluorescence intensities and target organisms that need partial enzymatic digestion prior to FISH. In contrast to commonly used rating systems consisting of photographs, the newly developed categories allow to quantitatively compare results of different categories and different organisms. The uncertainties of the results were calculated by a non-parametric bootstrap procedure; a thorough uncertainty analysis was performed including sample variability and operator subjectivity.  相似文献
