Topic correlation and individual influence analysis in online forums

Over the last few years, online forums have gained massive popularity and have become one of the most influential web social media in our times. The forum document corpus can be seemed to be composed of various topics evolved over time, and every topics is reflected on a volume of keywords and social actors. In this paper, we attempt to study the interesting problem: for the evolving topics, were there any correlation between them? We propose a method for discovering the dependency relationship between the topics of documents in adjacent time stamps based on the knowledge of content semantic similarity and social interactions of authors and repliers. We introduce mutual information measure to estimate the correlation between the topics. Applied to the realistic forum data, we show how topics are related and which postings can be recommended to another as similar topics. We also show how the authors impact the topics and propose a new way for evaluating author impact.

通过分析网民在论坛中的发帖内容来揭示网民所共有的社会兴趣。通过跟踪流行中文论坛的在线人数和日发帖量来说明论坛在中国很受欢迎．论坛用户所共有的兴趣可以被看成社会兴趣。使用数据挖掘方法分析天涯论坛发帖内容．引入量化阶梯树表现社会兴趣。实验结果不仅揭示了论坛用户所共有的普遍兴趣．而且确定了当前的社会热点。实验表明通过研究论坛可以自动确定社会兴趣和社会热点。     

“文化冲突”视域下高校党建工作的问题与对策——以苏州高校利用“先锋论坛”创新党建机制为例

文化冲突的现象在如今的高校依然存在。党的建设工作应该结合优秀传统文化, 采取新的方法和策略, 以 利于高校的长期稳定发展。苏州一些高校创设“先锋论坛”, 倡导“服务至上”, 有效促进了学生对校园 文化的参与和体验。倡导“先忧后乐”, 消弭文化代沟, 有效调动教师的积极性;提倡“和合文化”, 体现 苏州城市文化的特色。通过“先锋论坛+地域文化”, 强化思想引领, 形成基层党建工作新局面, 使高校党 组织永葆蓬勃生机和旺盛活力。     

Associative Practices in the Management of Complexity

Tom Verebes, a co-director of the Architectural Association's Design Research Laboratory (DRL), writes about the programme's recent research in generative and parametric-based software, as well as the actualisation of these innovations through automated fabrication technologies. One example is the DRL's recent initiative to collaborate with Gehry Technologies as a means of using an experimental academic environment to test professional design software applications currently in development. As Verebes shows, this integration extends into his own collaborative design office, ocean D, one of the surviving branches of the original OCEAN network that emerged in the early 1990s (discussed elsewhere in the issue by Michael Hensel). 笔者此文是从《城市规划汇刊》出版内容来展示中国大陆城市规划的发展趋势的,《汇刊》自1978年底复刊以来,其刊登内容基本上与中国大陆改革开放的形势同步,及时对城市规划学科的理论与实践、经验与总结作了很好的对应,并在某些撰稿者原创精神的指导下,对未来的城市规划学科发展作了有创意的开拓与探索,使《汇刊》成为当今中国一份重要的学刊。文章对《汇刊》存在的缺点提出建议,以期“好还要越好”。最后对中国大陆城市规划的发展趋势作了初步的检讨。

The Mothers of Invention

Japan-based architect and academic Tom Daniell puts out a call to architects, beseeching them not to lose sight of their role as creative inventors. Rather than being diverted into despair by the present confluence of ecological, economic and political crises, architects should be providing much needed optimism, thinking beyond the current situation with utopian visions. He challenges the view that future innovation is to be located in collective collaborations, regarding ‘true innovators’ to be individuals, such as Rem Koolhaas, Hernan Diaz Alonso or Philippe Rahm, who provide the essential entrepreneurial catalyst for the interaction of other people and ideas.     

Simulating the User Experience: Design Optimisation for Visitor Comfort

Much emphasis in computation has been put on the potential of building information modelling (BIM) and other software in the coordination of the design and construction process and on building performance. What, however, can modelling techniques offer to shift the focus to simulating the user experience? Shrikant Sharma and Al Fisher of Buro Happold SMART Solutions, which offers specialist computational innovation services to external clients, describe how their team has developed SMART Move, a crowd-modelling software that has been used in the development of the designs for Wilkinson Eyre's Exeter University Forum and Foster + Partners' Thomas Deacon Academy.
