For the elderly and chronic patients with cardiovascular disease who live alone, it is necessary to constantly monitor their physiological parameters, especially the electrocardiogram (ECG), to effectively prevent and control their health condition and even to provide urgent treatment or care while an emergency such as the abnormal variation of heart rate (HR) occurs. In this paper, a wireless in-home physiological monitoring system, based on multi-hop relay communications, which can ubiquitously and continuously monitor the patient's ECG at any time or any place at home without space limit and the “dead spot” due to the extended communication coverage by multi-hop wireless connectivity, is proposed. The system consists of a mobile-care device, which is responsible for capturing and wirelessly sending the patient's ECG data, a wireless multi-hop relay network (WMHRN) that is in charge of relaying the data sent by the former, and a residential gateway (RG), which is responsible for gathering and uploading the received ECG data to the remote care server through the Internet to carry out the patient's health condition monitoring and the management of pathological data. However, in order to assure that the ECG data can be effectively and timely forwarded, from the mobile-care device to the RG through the WMHRN, to meet the healthcare quality of service (H-QoS) demand for reliable and real-time end-to-end ECG transmission, the analysis of WMHRN latency in data-forwarding stage and the deployment consideration of wireless relay nodes are investigated in detail in this work. Moreover, an emergency alert service using short message service (SMS), based on the detection of abnormal variation of HR, is also used in the RG to further enhance the healthcare service quality. This article describes a multimodal command language for home robot users, and a robot system which interprets users’ messages
in the language through microphones, visual and tactile sensors, and control buttons. The command language comprises a set
of grammar rules, a lexicon, and nonverbal events detected in hand gestures, readings of tactile sensors attached to the robots,
and buttons on the controllers in the users’ hands. Prototype humanoid systems which immediately execute commands in the language
are also presented, along with preliminary experiments of faceto-face interactions and teleoperations. Subjects unfamiliar
with the language were able to command humanoids and complete their tasks with brief documents at hand, given a short demonstration
beforehand. The command understanding system operating on PCs responded to multimodal commands without significant delay.

This study introduces a user interface, referred to as the flow interface, which provides a graphical representation of the movement of content among and inside audio/video devices. The proposed interface provides a different frame of reference with content-oriented visualization of the generation, manipulation, storage, and display of content as well as input and output. The flow interface was applied to a VCR/DVD recorder combo, one of the most complicated consumer products. A between-group experiment was performed to determine whether the flow interface helps users to perform various tasks and to examine the learning effect of the flow interface, particularly in regard to hooking up and recording tasks. The results showed that participants with access to the flow interface performed better in terms of success rate and elapsed time. In addition, the participants indicated that they could easily understand the flow interface. The potential of the flow interface for application to other audio video devices, and design issues requiring further consideration, are discussed. 相似文献

The Home Reef volcano (Tonga, Southwest Pacific Ocean) erupted in August 2006. Initially a submarine eruption it quickly evolved into a subaerial event upon the formation of an ephemeral island.Remote sensing data from different sensors including MODIS, ASTER, EO-1 ALI and Landsat-7 ETM+ were used to analyze the event, focusing on the plumes of discolored water, ocean chlorophyll-a concentration (OCC) and sea surface temperature.An early classification system for the plumes was devised based on spectral properties and point of origin. Plumes originated at the volcano were named Type-I and those associated to the pumice rafts Type-II.Anomalies in ocean chlorophyll-a concentration, measured using MODIS data, were analyzed and a large bloom, presumably dominated by Trichodesmium sp. was identified. The bloom, which contributed to OCC values 17 times higher than the background, was spatially and temporally coincident with a Type-I plume of discolored water. The OCC increase appears to have been caused by a combined effect of both ocean fertilizations by the subsurface volcanic plume and rising sea surface temperatures.The Home Reef event offers a good candidate for a case of ocean enrichment by a submarine volcano and highlights the need for continuous monitoring of the eruptions even after the end of the explosive, more spectacular stages. 相似文献

This article presents an integrated framework for the development of home automation systems following the model-driven approach. By executing model transformations the environment allows developers to generate executable code for specific platforms. The tools presented in this work help developers to model home automation systems by means of a domain specific language which is later transformed into code for home automation specific platforms. These transformations have been defined by means of graph grammars and template engines extended with traceability capabilities. Our framework also allows the models to be reused for different applications since a catalogue of requirements is provided. This framework enables the development of home automation applications with techniques for improving the quality of both the process and the models obtained. In order to evaluate the benefits of the approach, we conducted a survey among developers that used the framework. The analysis of the outcome of this survey shows which conditions should be fulfilled in order to increase reusability. 相似文献

Implementation and maintenance of interorganizational systems (IOS) require investments by all the participating firms. Compared
with intraorganizational systems, however, there are additional uncertainties and risks. This is because the benefits of IOS
investment depend not only on a firm’s own decisions, but also on those of its business partners. Without appropriate levels
of investment by all the firms participating in an IOS, they cannot reap the full benefits. Drawing upon the literature in
institutional economics, we examine IOS ownership as a means to induce value-maximizing noncontractible investments. We model
the impact of two factors derived from the theory of incomplete contracts and transaction cost economics: relative importance
of investments and specificity of investments. We apply the model to a vendor-managed inventory system (VMI) in a supply chain
setting. We show that when the specificity of investments is high, this is a more critical determinant of optimal ownership
structure than the relative importance of investments. As technologies used in IOS become increasingly redeployable and reusable,
and less specific, the relative importance of investments becomes a dominant factor. We also show that the bargaining mechanism—or
the agreed upon approach to splitting the incremental payoffs—that is used affects the relationship between these factors
in determining the optimal ownership structure of an IOS.
