The interfacial tension (IFT) of hydrocarbon fluids is commonly predicted by either the parachor method or the scaling law. The methods require equilibrium liquid and vapor phase composition and density. An equation of state would normally be required if experimental values are not available. However, the computation of density for simple hydrocarbons and reservoir fluids, despite the important advances achieved by cubic equations of state, still remains a weak link in these types of calculations. Thus, there exists a need to investigate the qualitative and quantitative effects, of such inaccuracies in the density, on IFT predictions. Moreover, the study presented in this work would be useful in reservoir engineering and enhanced oil recovery calculations. The results presented in this work indicate that the methods are highly sensitive to the inaccuracies in the density of both the liquid and the vapor phases. An error of around 10% in the liquid or the vapor density can result in an error of up to 200% in the estimated IFT. Two binary and one ternary mixture for which measured data on IFT, composition and density is reported in the literature form the basis of this study. 相似文献

The limiting current method is applied to characterize the local mass transfer in the axial, radial and angular directions throughout a packed bed of Pall rings. This is expressed in terms of the particle-to-fluid mass transfer coefficient of ferricyanide ions obtained from the limiting currents measured during its reduction to ferrocyanide at different locations in the bed. Particular focus is placed on the variability of the mass transfer coefficient with position in terms of the quantity MTVAR, equivalent to the normalized deviation of the function Sh/Sc0.33. The results confirm those reported by other researchers using more traditional liquid collection and tracer methods. Mass transfer coefficients throughout the bed closely follow normal distributions for the range of Re values investigated. When a multipoint distributor is used, MTVAR is already low at the lowest flow rate (Re=95) considered and remains unchanged with any further increase in flow rate. In the case of a single-point distributor, on the other hand, MTVAR decreases with increasing flow rate, but always remains significantly higher than that observed with the multipoint distributor. Moreover, the MTVAR value depends on whether irrigated or full flow conditions prevail and on the cross-sectional area of the sampling electrodes, suggesting that local mass transfer variations are caused by local liquid velocity variations once the Pall rings are sufficiently wetted. 相似文献

The fundamental characteristics of the two-dimensional cavitating flow of liquid helium in a vertical pipe near the lambda point are numerically investigated to realize the further development and high performance of new cryogenic superfluid cooling systems. It is found that the phase transition of the normal fluid to the superfluid and the generation of superfluid counterflow against normal fluid flow based on the thermomechanical effect is conspicuous in the large gas phase volume fraction region where the liquid to gas phase change with cavitation actively occurs. Furthermore, it is clarified that the mechanism of the He I to He II phase transition caused by the temperature decrease is due to the deprivation of latent heat for vaporization from the liquid phase. 相似文献

To this end, a mathematic‐physical model was developed for the analysis of the stability behavior of liquid strands in the range of low to higher viscosity, the main emphasis being on gravity. The applications of electron diffraction and diffraction contrast electron microscopy with which to study the structure and dynamics of organic thin films are discussed. The techniques of making thin film deposits on substrates and of forming free-standing thin films over holes on the substrate are described. Selected area electron diffraction and diffraction contrast imaging techniques for thin film studies are elaborated, and examples are given. Methods to reduce radiation damage and environmental protection of the thin film specimen are outlined.
