Tribotronics—Towards active tribology

A constant trend towards more compact mechanical systems with higher power densities and increased thermo-mechanical loads emphasises the importance of the development of new design approaches and novel tribological systems. Ignoring this may cause a significant slow down in technological and industrial development. Tribotronics or active tribology based on adaptive performance is thought of as being critical in the implementation of smart machine concepts. Recognition of the importance of tribotronics, or active control of system loss outputs, such as those through friction and wear will have significant beneficial economic consequences as a result of the associated accelerated rate of technological progress. These smart tribotronic systems can be embedded in a great variety of machines and mechanisms. If this integration is made at the design stage, products that are more flexible, efficient and reliable can be produced. The concept of tribotronics is presented and discussed in this paper. Some illustrative examples that show the feasibility of an “active” approach are given. In addition, various possibilities already reported in literature are discussed.

孔子是否删诗，这是一个历史遗留问题。司马迁首言在前，孔颖达怀疑在后。宋之后，争议遂起，延至近代。今人夏传才先生断日：孔子是否删诗，“在没有发掘出新史料的情况下，哪怕再争论八百年，也是搞不清楚的”。以此止息纷争。话虽不错，但问题并没有解决。我认为，在没有发掘出新史料的情况下，可以从《左传》入手，来考察孔子是否删诗。

Preparation of CeO2-ZrO2 mixed oxide with high surface area and high thermal stability

Ceria-zirconia solid particles have been recognized as a key material of the automotive exhaust catalysts since they can release and uptake oxygen owing to the rapid reversible oxidation states of cerium between Ce³⁺ and Ce⁴⁺. Several methods have recently been described to prepare the CeO₂-ZrO₂ solid particles used in the catalysts. In this paper, a new coprecipitation method is used to prepare the CeO₂-ZrO₂ solid particles. The Ce-Zr alcogel is dried and calcined in flowing N₂ not in flowing air under atmospheric pressure. The results show that the ceria-zirconia sample calcined at 650 °C has high surface area over 90 m²g⁻¹, which drops to 40 m²g⁻¹ following treatment at 900°C.

Psychologists' appropriation of language and ideas from Thomas Kuhn's (1962, 1970b) The Structure of Scientific Revolutions reveals deep and contradictory concerns about truth, science, and the progress of the field. The author argues that psychologists, uncomfortably straddling natural and social science traditions, reference Structure for 2 reasons largely overlooked: first, because it presents an intermediate, naturalistic position in the war between relativist and rationalist views of scientific truth, and second, because it presents a psychologized model of scientific change. The author suggests that the history of this mutual influence--psychologists being influenced by Kuhn and vice versa--may usefuly inform current practices of psychological science. 中原油田深井大井眼段钻井液工艺

濮深8井是中原油田在西部洼陷南部寻找接替储量的一口重点深探井,也是中原油田第一口井深达6000m的超深井。分析了濮深8井钻井液的配备及维护和处理技术,得出深井大井眼段钻井液工艺技术存在以下问题:井眼大,钻井液量及钻屑量多,处理时间长,处理剂用量多,处理频繁;返速低使钻井液清洗井眼的能力减弱;井下温度高使处理剂的作用明显降低,二氧化碳的侵入使钻井液性能变差。钻井液维护处理的较好方法是定时、定量补充处理剂胶液。固相控制是深井大井眼段钻井液工艺中的关键问题,必须配套并且有效地使用固控设备,以维护好钻井液性能。
