Thematic orientation of the ISJ within a semantic space of IS research

This study examines research published in the first 24 years of Information Systems Journal's (ISJ) publication history using a thematic space of all information systems (IS) research as the backdrop. To that end, abstracts from all contributing articles published in eight prominent IS journals in the period 1991–2014 were analysed to extract a latent semantic space of five broad research areas. A two‐dimensional projection of the results was used to create a two‐by‐two map, where one dimension represents the European vs. North American style of IS research and another dimension represents a micro vs. macro level of IS research. The ISJ is positioned in the ‘micro and European school’ quadrant. Over the course of the journal's first 24 years, research in the ISJ started with a relative focus on the IT artefact and IS development and gradually moved towards a more balanced position that includes a considerable amount of research on IT for teamwork and collaboration, as well as on IT and individuals.

大倾角俯斜综采过陷落柱技术研究与实践

大倾角俯斜开采一直制约着煤矿综合机械化的发展。在实现缓倾斜煤层开采的基础上,进一步探索和分析了25°～30°大倾角俯斜综采工作面的回采工艺、技术研究及其可行性,为今后类似条件下工作面的开采提供理论依据和生产实践指导,进而创造更大的经济效益和社会效益。     

Design ethnography in information systems

Until recently, most ethnographic research in information systems has been based on the traditional anthropological model of ethnography. In this traditional model of ethnography, one of the most important data‐gathering techniques is participant observation. The ethnographer observes and participates but does not actively seek to change the situation. In recent years, however, a new type of ethnographic research has emerged – one that can be called design ethnography. Design ethnography is where the researcher goes beyond observation and actively engages with people in the field. Our view is that design ethnography has much potential for research in information systems. It is a new form of engaged scholarship that bridges the gap between ethnographic research and design science research.

计算机信息技术辅助下的小学语文教学研究

人类文化的发展离不开语言的发展,我们在日常生活中的交际也离不开语言。关于语文教学,就是将语言的交际性和它的人文性进行有机的结合。在进行语文教学过程中,我们要培养学生对祖国语言的热爱之情,教会他们如何理解语言、积累词汇和恰当准确地运用语言。为了提高学生的语文思维能力,要注重平常对学生写作能力、阅读能力和表达能力的锻炼和教导。计算机网络多媒体的运用,可以为小学语文教学提供一个广阔的空间。

Research Partners,Teaching Partners: A Collaboration between FYC Faculty and Librarians to Study Students’ Research and Writing Habits

In Spring 2012, instruction librarians collaborated with first year composition (FYC) faculty to study students’ research habits as they related to writing. We collected process narratives from students in the introductory FYC course at the beginning and end of the fall semester, and a group of librarians and FYC faculty coded them together. Although we did not achieve one of our initial research goals, we still gained valuable insight into how our students perceive sources and the research process. We applied what we learned to create new instructional materials and developed a valuable relationship with FYC faculty.     

Exploring creative intersections: Ernest Edmonds and his time-based generative art

This article focuses on the experience of British artist Ernest Edmonds and the influences that have informed his art practice in the past forty years. How are these influences connected? The article has an historical focus. It develops the themes within Edmonds's art and shows his connections with the ‘Systems’ artists and their forebears. In particular, the article concentrates on the encounter of Edmonds with artistic thinking about systems and process in the broad sense, as well as digital and interactive work developed from the early 1980s. As the article will demonstrate, a passion for colour, time and structure, the encounter with a number of artists inspired by Constructivism in the early 1980s, and the educational context in which Edmonds has worked from the late 1960s until the present, have offered great opportunities of interdisciplinary exchanges and ideas that had a profound impact upon the nature of his art. These influences have enabled Edmonds to explore new constructs in art through the use of technology that are a constant stimulus in his creative research, both as an artist and as an academic.     

Virtual life: self and identity redefined in the new media age

In this article, the author discusses her virtual reality installation The Parallel Dimension and goes on to explore the conflicts of identity experienced when a person is confronted with VR as a total immersion. She suggests that the various questions arising through this experience may lead us to a more ambivalent concept of the self.
