A connectionist implementation of the theory of planned behavior: Association of beliefs with exercise intention.

The theory of planned behavior suggests attitudes are a product of salient beliefs. This study examined whether aggregating salient beliefs was plausible within a more biologically centered information-processing environment. A neural network was used to examine associations among beliefs relating to exercise intention. Data on intentions and behavioral, normative, and control beliefs from 114 respondents were used to train (by error backpropagation) a neural network to associate beliefs with intention. The R2 between the network's estimated and self-reported intention was .66. The network's representation comprised 6 belief profiles associated with high, moderate, or low behavioral intention. The neural network accommodated complex relationships among beliefs and belief-intention associations and indicated how high-level constructs such as attitudes may be viewed as the best fit (compromise state) between aroused beliefs. Assessing Consequences of Substance Use: Psychometric Properties of the Inventory of Drug Use Consequences.

Negative consequences are an important component of the substance use change process, yet no standardized measure exists to assess consequences of use. This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Inventory of Drug Use Consequences, a self-report measure assessing drinking and drug use consequences. Participants (N=252) were assessed at entry into outpatient substance abuse treatment. Items loaded strongly on 1 factor, and internal consistency of the total scale was high. Fifteen items with the highest correlations with the total scale were chosen to represent the construct. The shortened measure exhibited good internal consistency, convergent and discriminant validity, and detected change over time and may be the measure of substance use consequences that is lacking in the field. 利用沉降炉试验系统，针对不同煤质的煤种进行了着火燃烧试验，采用回归分析方法确定了煤粉着火难易模型，按照该模型计算得到的着火温度指数与实际试验中测量得到的结果相符合，证明了模型的精确性。

Failure analysis of hollow glasses The failure analysis is very important to clarify damages of hollow glasses. Damages of glass bottle through over pressure are very often linked with damages to persons. This is the reason why the causal research is from particular importance. Different surface characteristics of glass fragments as well as the fracture pattern give hints to the direction of the crack, the stress just before breakage and the reason of stress. A reconstruction of the bottle is a further helpful instrument for cause studies. The difference of the various characteristics of the surface will be explained. Further on there will be discussed different reasons and mechanism of fracture.     

Elasticity of Space-Time: Basis of Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion

In this paper we derive Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion from the constitutive equation of elasticity of a space-time continuum in four dimensions. This we do by introducing a four-dimensional material continuum with a Minkowskian metric, in analogy with Einstein’s general theory of relativity. The four-continuum is deformable in both space and time. The physics of the deformation is embedded in a variational principle, which is a form-invariant extension of its classical mechanical counterpart in three dimensions, but with the acceleration term absent. General dynamic equations of elasticity in four dimensions are thereby derived. When the constraint of temporal inextensibility (universal time) is introduced, these equations yield readily the dynamic equations of elasticity in three dimensions. The presence of the inertia term in these equations, is a direct consequence of the temporal curvature induced by the deformation of the four-continuum. Newton’s law of motion for rigid bodies follows when the additional constraint of spatial inextensibility is introduced.
