Historically, phlogopite and olivine have been mined in the Silver City Dome District in Kansas, USA, from lamproite ultra-potassic igneous rock for use as a supplement in cattle feed. Micro-Lite LLC is now evaluating processing techniques for recovery of phlogopite to be used for reinforcement in plastics, high temperature applications, and electrical insulators, which requires a higher grade phlogopite product. To determine the purity of the processed ore, QEMSCAN® was utilised to identify and quantify phlogopite and impurities, including olivine, pyroxenes, feldspars, titanium phases (mainly titanite and perovskite), apatite, magnetite, chromite, and other phases. Samples were prepared and analysed in a manner to decrease or eliminate preferred orientation of phlogopite to provide accurate quantitative results. The results show that the flotation product has a higher concentration of phlogopite at 87% (by mass), compared to 78% in the hydrosizer product. The main impurity phase in both products is olivine (10% in the flotation product and 18% in the hydrosizer product). In the hydrosizer product, 15% of the sample consists of liberated phlogopite particles, while in the flotation product 58% of the sample occurs as pure, liberated phlogopite particles. 相似文献

ABSTRACT The ability of phytases from fresh fruits and vegetables to degrade phytate in foods was determined in vitro. In contrast to the more consistent presence of phytase in vegetables, only a few fruits contained detectable phytase activity. The highest phytase activities were 121 and 97 nmol min‐1 g‐1 in scallion leaves and avocado fruit, respectively. Avocado fruit also contained 0.14% phytate on a wet‐weight basis. Crude phytase extracts were incubated with ground corn tortillas or refried beans at 37 °C. Most of the phytate was degraded within 30 min by a 4‐fold excess by dry weight of scallion leaves. Avocado extracts incubated alone metabolized most of their endogenous phytate within 2 h. 相似文献

Samples of the secondary uranium minerals collected in the abandoned uranium mine at Pecs (Hungary) were investigated by two micro-techniques: scanning electron microscopy (SEM/EDX) and micro-Raman spectroscopy (MRS). They were applied to locate U-rich particles and identify the chemical form and oxidation state of the uranium compounds. The most abundant mineral was a K and/or Na uranyl sulphate (zippeite group). U(VI) was also present in the form showing intensive Raman scattering at 860 cm−1 which can be attributed to uranium trioxide. Crystallography has done much to underpin and enhance our understanding of our planetary neighbours. From analysis of the samples plucked from space by audacious sample-return missions, to the detailed study of meteorites that have landed on our planet's surface; investigations of the crystal structures, the growth of components and the physical properties of these precious samples has been key to teasing out the story of these fragments and their parent bodies. To prove that there are no limits to the ends that a crystallographer will take to collect planetary data, there is now one diffractometer working another planet, Mars. Not to be daunted by the lack of samples from beyond the terrestrial planets, crystallography has also been at the forefront of in situ experiments that recreate the extremes of planetary environments. Natural surfactants are important for any enhancing oil recovery applications since these kinds of surfactants have less detrimental effects and also lower cost in comparison to the industrial surfactants. Adsorption of surfactants on sandstone minerals is an important issue which needs to be considered before applying any surfactant-based enhanced oil recovery technique. In this study, a new model based on adaptive neuro-fuzzy interference system was developed in order to simulate the kinetic behavior of natural surfactants adsorption on sandstone minerals with high accuracy. Performance of the model was investigated by comparing the results of the proposed model with the results of previous well-known kinetic models. Results demonstrated that this model has the highest accuracy compared to the other well-established models found in literature. Finally, in order to show the importance of modeling surfactants adsorption, the effect of a natural surfactant on the quality of the produced oil was investigated by performing SARA analysis on the recovered oil at various conditions of surfactant adsorption. It is shown that in the case of lower surfactant adsorption on sandstone minerals, the produced oil has higher asphaltene fractions. 相似文献
