Elementary School Children's Ability to Distinguish Hypothetical Beliefs From Statements of Preference.

The authors examined students' understanding of hypotheses as beliefs that can be empirically verified. Thirty second graders and 30 sixth graders considered cases of disagreement about foods and colors that reflected either alternative hypotheses or different preferences. Their task was to decide whether the validity of each expressed belief could be determined and to justify their decision. Younger students considered both hypotheses and preferences as empirically verifiable, whereas older students were better able to recognize in some cases that preferences are legitimately variable. This lack of distinction may reflect limited metaconceptual ability or a deterministic epistemological view, both of which might interfere with the understanding of the hypothesis-testing process. Structural Disruption of Toothpastes Under Deformation — An Easy Release of Active Ingredients

The author suggests a technological approach relevant to the optimization of toothpaste compositions with regard to the easy release of the therapeutic ingredients under shear deformation. It is based on the comparative assessment of the steady‐state viscous behaviour of placebo samples (mixtures containing all the components except the therapeutic ingredients) and the final products. It is presumed that the maximum beneficial effect of the toothpastes, as therapeutic agents, is achieved if the final products and the placebo blends display similar shear‐thinning characteristics.     

部分样本雷达信号的参数估计

线性调频信号参数检测是SAR对抗的一个重要问题 ,其估计参数的方法有多种 ,但对于分析部分样本LFM信号而言 ,绝大多数估计方法的误差很大。在用快速相关解线调估计和分析部分样本LFM信号存有误差的基础上 ,提出了一种改进的快速相关解线调算法运用于部分样本LFM信号的起始频率和调频斜率参数的估计 ,减小了误差。最后对改进的算法进行了仿真 ,证实了改进后的有效性。     

双层堤基的井涌破坏与无害管涌

双层堤基水文地质结构特殊，堤基承压水常具独特的“渗而不流”特征。在“不流”条件下，堤后盖层薄弱处受超高承压水头顶裂破坏，产生的局部冒水孔实属承压自流井，由此形成的管涌实质为井涌。底部进水的承压井流影响范围不大，井涌的破坏范围更小，据此可区分出有害管涌与无害管涌。前者局限于堤脚附近，小范围压渗为首选方案；对后者，既无需专门防治，更不必追求根治。

Measuring and modeling the rheological data of diglycidylether of bisphenol‐A during polymerization for finite element analyses

Finite element analyses (FEA) of thermosets are often performed on the basis of rheological data for fully cured resin. For the FEA of thermosets during curing, a material model is established and a technique is demonstrated, which allows the rheological data of the linear viscoelastic material to be derived. As the moduli are sensitive to conversion, all measured properties are related to temperature and conversion. Therefore the basis for the rheological data has to be a suitable reaction kinetic. Based on the kinetics shear and compression properties are measured independently and modeled mathematically with the focus to gain a formulation, which is suitable for FEA. The considered time constants are in the range between one second and one month as these times are relevant for the investigated relaxation times. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 灞河生态治理工程模型试验研究

通过模型试验 ,对位于西安市东郊因采沙使河道破坏严重的灞河河段进行了复现试验和研究 ,并以此为依据 ,通过优化比较为设计部门提供了合理的橡胶坝坝址和坝座高程。在此基础上 ,又对建坝后橡胶坝对上下游冲淤变化的影响进行了试验研究和分析 ,解决了工程设计中的一些关键技术问题     

Influence of the Temperature of a Body on Its Weight

The physical preconditions are considered for the temperature of a body to influence the force of gravity experienced by it. The results are given of experiments on weighing metal rods heated by ultrasound which confirm a dependence of the weight of the rods on their temperature.
