Perceptually Grounded Language Learning: Part 2—DETE: A Neural/Procedural Model

In Part 1 of this two-part series, we introduced Katamic memory—a neural network architecture capable of robust sequence learning and recognition. In Part 2, we introduce the Blobs World taskjdomain for language learning and describe the DETE language learning system, which is composed of over 50 Katamic memory modules. DETE currently learns small subsets of English and Spanish via association with perceptual! motor inputs. In addition to Kaiamic memory, DETE employs several other novel features: (1) use of feature planes, to encode visual shapes, spatial relationships and the motions of objects, (2) phase-locking of neural firing, in order to represent focus of atention and to bind objects across multiple feature planes, and (3) a method for encoding temporal relationships, so that DETE can learn utterances involving the immediate past and future. We compare DETE to related models and discuss the implications of this approach for language-learning research.

Mechanism of iodine vapor sorption in polyacetylene

Simultaneous measurements of weight uptake and conductivity variation during iodine vapor sorption of polyacetylenes (PA) at 20–25°C show that the sorption is a two-stages process. For the first stage, iodine diffusion to the fibrilar surface of the cis-rich and trans-rich PA is of Knudsen type pore diffusion as supported by the sorption measurements of hexane for the cis-rich PA, and has a diffusion coefficient in the order of 10⁷ cm²/sec. Conductivity of the PA rises rapidly and reaches a maximum at end of the stage. For the second stage, the diffusion is more restrictive and has a diffusion coefficient lower than the first stage by a factor of about 10 due to multilayer sorption of iodine, which leads to a decrease in the pore diameter and therefor the diffusion rate. In addition to the restricted diffusion in the second stage, diffusion of the iodine molecules adsorped on the fibrilar surface into the interior of the fibrils is appreciable for cis-rich PA (leading to a conductivity drop) and is negliglible for tran-rich PA (leading to insignificant variation in conductivity).

详细地阐述了模糊综合评判方法的数学原理及其在油气勘探开发中的应用.根据某油田的生产层参数资料,运用MICROSOFT EXCEL软件,在对各参数进行统计研究并了解它们分布规律的基础上,合理地构造出一系列隶属函数,通过编制相应的计算机程序,完成综合评判.评判结果与勘探实际吻合较好.该方法有效地适用于碳酸盐岩油气藏的勘探开发.     

A Type-Safe Embedding of XDuce into ML

We consider the problem of integrating XDuce into ML. This is difficult because of incompatible type and value representations. Our solution is a type-driven translation scheme from XDuce to ML based on a structured representation of XDuce values. XDuce type inference guides the insertion of appropriate coercion functions to translate regular expression pattern matching and uses of semantic subtyping. We can extend our translation scheme to include ML function calls and patterns into XDuce. Thus, we can embed XDuce into ML. Our results allow to enrich the ML language with support for dealing with semi-structured data.
