A Vacuum Drying Model for Mango Pulp

Abstract

Vacuum drying of mango pulp at varying conditions of pulp thickness (2, 3, and 4 mm) and vacuum chamber plate temperature (65, 70, and 75°C) was carried out under 30–50 mm of mercury absolute pressure. A model based on moisture diffusivity was found to give close prediction to moisture content of the pulp at different times of drying with correlation coefficient varying between 0.98–0.99 for pure mango pulp and pulp with ingredients. Color change of reconstituted pulp made from mango powder was found to depend more on pulp thickness than plate temperature. For getting low color change vacuum drying should be carried at maximum pulp thickness of 2.6 mm and vacuum chamber plate temperature of 72.3°C.     

Novel Data on the Polyphenol Composition of Italian Ancient Apple Cultivars

The pulp polyphenol composition of some Italian ancient apple cultivars, Dominici, Giachetta, Grigia di Torriana, Pom d'Aram, Ronzè, and Ros Borsetta, was studied in comparison with a Golden Delicious commercial variety, over a three-year period. Polyphenols were analyzed by liquid chromatography coupled with diode array and mass spectrometer detectors. The results showed that ancient varieties, such as Grigia di Torriana, Ros Borsetta, and Giachetta, constitute good sources of polyphenols, even without the peel. It was demonstrated that some representative apple phenolics, such as chlorogenic acid and phloridzin, were clearly affected by the harvesting year, whereas others, such as catechins and procyanidins, did not.

本文以粉煤灰为主要原料、少量粘土为粘结剂、改性黑液为成型剂进行了烧结砖研制。讨论了粉煤灰与黑液用量对烧结砖性能的影响 ,并通过正交试验求出最佳配比与工艺参数。试验结果表明 ,这种烧结砖可达到GB50 10— 85标准中MU15级的要求 ,且比普通粘土烧结砖质量轻、保温性能好。     

Reduction of greenhouse gases in integrated pulp and paper mills: possibilities for CO2 capture and storage

Earlier work has shown that capturing the CO₂ from flue gases in the recovery boiler at a market pulp mill can be a cost-effective way of reducing mill CO₂ emissions. In this paper, it is investigated whether the same is valid for an integrated pulp and paper mill. Five configurations are compared, supplying the extra energy needed by a biofuel boiler, an NGCC, a heat pump or by reducing the steam demand at the mill in combination with a biofuel boiler or an NGCC. The configurations have been evaluated with energy market scenarios and the avoidance cost has been calculated. The NGCC configurations have the lowest avoidance costs in all scenarios and they also have the advantage of liberating biofuel for use in other parts of society.
