Ozone application was investigated for its effectiveness in the removal of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) from bleaching effluent. The objectives were to compare the efficiency of ozone reaction on Na-EDTA solution with pure Fe3+-EDTA complex and EDTA complexes in bleaching effluent, and to test if changing pH and addition of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) increases the removal of EDTA. Small ozone doses destroyed high proportions of Na-EDTA. This effect was diminished when EDTA formed complexes with other metal ions. It was shown that EDTA present in bleaching effluent was more easily oxidizable than in pure Fe3+-EDTA solution. Variation of initial pH value had no significant influence on the removal of Na-EDTA. Addition of hydrogen peroxide did not increase degradation of EDTA in bleaching effluent. 相似文献

The morphology and composition of skin and pulp cell walls of four premium red wine grape (Vitis vinifera L.) varieties were studied to determine whether the technological differences observed in previous studies between the four
different varieties during the winemaking process (especially, the anthocyanin extractability) could be partly explained by
their respective cell wall compositions. Monastrell grapes showed the highest amount of cell wall material in their skins
(55–57 mg cell wall/g skin), while Syrah showed the largest amount of cell wall material in the pulp (5.1 mg cell wall/g pulp).
The highest percentage of galactose and cellulosic glucose in skin and pulp cell walls was also found in Monastrell grapes.
The cell wall composition of Monastrell grapes, together with their morphology, suggests that the firmer pulp and skin are
responsible for the difficulties this variety shows for anthocyanin extraction (extractability index varying from 37 to 60).
As cell wall composition may be modulated by the action of enzymes, the activity of pectinmethylesterase, polygalacturonase,
cellulase and α- and β-galactosidase was studied. No polygalacturonase and cellulase activity was found. The two galactosidases
showed higher activity than pectinmethylesterase (25–290 units/g tissue versus 0.3–0.4 units/g tissue), especially in Cabernet
Sauvignon grapes, although in Monastrell grapes α- and β-galactosidase activity was low, which may explain the large amount

Multivariate statistics (MVS) has enjoyed popularity in the applied science literature over the last decade. It has also been well received by industrial practitioners; however, industrial applications have had mixed results. In this paper, we focus on our experiences in developing multivariate statistical systems for industrial use. From these experiences, we identify a methodology for developing useful, long-standing industrial applications. We highlight features we feel are important in the successful development of on-line MVS applications, both technical and non-technical. Specifically, we focus on on-line systems for manufacturing environments. Many of the applications discussed grew out of industry-university collaborations. Eighteen effluent types from seven thermomechanical (TMP), chemithermomechanical (CTMP), bleached chemimechanical (BCMP), and kraft pulp mills were treated in the laboratory with ozone alone or ozone in conjunction with aerobic biological treatment. Except for one mechanical pulp mill effluent, all effluents ozonized showed rapid and selective destruction of their acute toxicity, juvabiones (JB), and resin and fatty acids (RFAs) over biological and chemical oxygen demand (BOD and COD) by ozone. For acute toxicity and RFA/JB removal, aerobic biotreatment of mechanical mill effluent streams produced additive but not synergistic effects when combined with ozone treatment. Ozonation of biotreated kraft effluents yielded substantial decreases in the biologically recalcitrant residual adsorbable organic halogens (AOX), converted COD to BOD, and usually produced large decreases in color. 相似文献
