Diffusion of lignin macromolecules within the fibre walls of kraft pulp. Part I: Determination of the diffusion coefficient under alkaline conditions

The intrinsic rate of diffusion of soluble lignin from fibre walls to bulk liquor has never been determined previously because of experimental difficulties; for example, the diffusion rate determined in a stirred cell is affected by the mechanical action of stirring. In our work, the intrinsic rate of diffusion of lignin macromolecules from the fibre walls of a softwood kraft pulp was determined under alkaline conditions using a displacement cell which eliminated external heat and mass transfer resistances and pulp fibre disturbances. The effects of such experimental conditions as pulp bed height and liquid flow rate were studied. The diffusion rate can be described by a diffusion model for a hollow cylinder with a very wide range of diffusion coefficients. The diffusion rate increased with increasing pH. Our results provide a new understanding of the lignin diffusion process in fibre walls, which is affected by the size of lignin molecules and the pores, and by the electrostatic interactions between intrafibre pore walls and lignin.

改性5A分子筛是一种高效吸附材料。实验用5A分子筛作为载体,制备了该吸附剂,并表征了其基本性质。结果表明,改性5A分子筛对As(Ⅴ)具有很高的吸附率和选择性;室温下,pH=7时,改性5A分子筛吸附As(Ⅴ)的吸附等温线符合Langmuir型和Freundlich型。     

Synthesis of Super-Microporous Aluminosilicate Having Excellent Water Vapor Adsorption Property as an Adsorbent for an Adsorption Heat-Pump

The synthesis of super-microporous aluminosilicate with a pore diameter of 14.6 Å has been achieved, by means of synthesis under specified conditions with a skeletal material comprising TMOS and a small quantity of sodium aluminate, and a conventional alkyl-trimethylammonium halide (C₁₀TMABr) as a template. This super-microporous aluminosilicate has an adsorption capacity of 0.2 ml/g at a relative water vapor pressure of 0.2, and thus is promising as an adsorbent for an adsorption heat-pump.     

LOCAL EQUILIBRIUM THEORY FOR THE DYNAMICS OF NONISOTHERMAL MIXED GAS ADSORPTION OF HIGH-CONCENTRATION COMPONENTS

A local equilibrium theory for nonisothermal gas adsorption is developed which accounts for variations in interstitial gas velocity induced by adsorption. Also presented are expressions describing the entropy admissibility criterion. A solution is developed for a Riemann's problem involving adiabatic gas-phase adsorption where there is no inert diluent and where Langmuir isotherms apply.     

Gasoline composition determined by H NMR spectroscopy

A fast and simple ¹H NMR spectroscopic method was developed for the concentration measurement of aromatic, olefinic and aliphatic fractions in gasoline samples. Simultaneously, individual components such as benzene, methyl tert-butyl ether and several dienes could be determined. The method relies on only a few, well-established assumptions about the molecular compositions and is therefore applicable to a broad range of gasolines. It is well suited for laboratories with high sample throughput since measurement time is short and all concentrations are determined within one NMR experiment. The method was applied to commercial gasolines and samples used in European round robin tests. Comparisons of NMR and round robin test results showed excellent agreement.

A method is developed for the calculation of single-component adsorption isotherms from gravimetrically measured binary gas mixture adsorption isotherms at high pressures, at two temperatures and for different mole fractions of the gas phase. The adsorption of nitrogen/methane on active carbon Norit R1 is taken as an experimental example.
