Amperometric biosensor for formic acid in air

The possibility of developing a simple, inexpensive and specific personal passive “real-time” air sampler incorporating a biosensor for formic acid was investigated. The sensor is based on the enzymatic reaction between formic acid and formate dehydrogenase (FDH) with nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD⁺) as a co-factor and Meldola's blue as mediator. An effective way to immobilise the enzyme, co-factor and Meldola's blue on screen-printed, disposable, electrodes was found to be in a mixture of glycerol and phosphate buffer covered with a gas-permeable membrane. Steady-state current was reached after 4–15 min and the limit of detection was calculated to be below 1 mg/m³. However, the response decreased by 50% after storage at −15°C for 1 day.

Dimensional reduction of 3D building models using graph theory and its application in building energy simulation

Since the various people involved in the design process for a building project tend to hold conflicting views, this inevitably leads to a range of disparate models for planning and calculation purposes. In order to interpret the relevant geometrical, topological and semantical data for any given building model, we identify a structural component graph, a graph of room faces, a room graph and a relational object graph as aids and explain algorithms to derive these relations. We start with a building model by transferring its geometrical, topological and semantical data into a volume model, decomposing the latter into a so-called connection model and then extracting all air volume bodies and hulls of the model by means of further decomposition into elementary cyclic connection components. The technique is demonstrated within the scope of building energy simulation by deriving both a dimensionally reduced object model required for setting up a thermal multizone model and a geometrical model for defining single or multiple computational fluid dynamic domains in a building together with incidence matrices correlating these models. The algorithm is basically applicable to any building energy simulation tool.

Organizational climate in air traffic control Innovative preparedness for implementation of new technology and organizational development in a rule governed organization

A positive and innovative organizational climate is of great importance in order to manage and adapt to change. Such a climate seldom evolves in organizations closely governed by rules and regulations. Because of ongoing organizational and technical changes within the Swedish Air Navigation Services Provider, a study concerning the organizational climate for changes and innovations was conducted to investigate the organization's capacity to cope with changes. Study locations were the two Swedish main air traffic control centers and parts of the civil aviation administration headquarters. In the study 390 subjects took part and the CCQ questionnaire was used to measure the organizational climate. The results show that the organizational climate is quite positive despite the rule-governed work. The results also show that administrative personnel assess the organizational climate as more positive than operative personnel. Comparisons between management positions did not result in any differences.

预警探测雷达模拟器目标分辨率设置会影响目标数量的探测,分辨率错误会产生与实体雷达不一致的虚警和漏警,影响预警探测雷达模拟器的逼真度。本文首先从理论上分析了对目标分辨率模型进行校核应该注意的几个方面,然后研究了用来测试验证目标分辨率模型的空情想定的设计方法,通过对预警探测雷达模拟器目标分辨率模型进行校验,可以有效提高模型的仿真效果。     

Destruction of trichloroethylene (TCE) and trichloromethane (TCM) in the presence of selected VOCs over Pt-Pd-based catalyst

Catalytic oxidation of trichloroethylene (TCE) and trichloromethane (TCM) oxidized alone and in two-component mixtures with selected volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as toluene, n-hexane, ethanol or acetone was investigated over a Pt-Pd-based catalyst on a monolithic, metallic, γ-Al₂O₃-washcoated support. TCE and TCM were more difficult to oxidize than VOCs and temperatures of their 50% conversion (T_50%) amouted to 420 and 330 °C, respectively. All the VOCs added were found to enhance the conversion of the two chlorinated compounds, drecreasing T_50% by 20 °C, at the most, for TCM in the presence of toluene and by 50 °C for TCE in the presence of acetone. Both the chlorinated compounds lowered the conversion of the VOCs added (except that of toluene), and this lowering was particularly distinct with n-heptane; they also raised the concentration of acetaldehyde formed during the oxidation of oxyderivative compounds.
