Examining the factors that influence early adopters’ smartphone adoption: The case of college students

The influence of early adopters on potential adopters’ decisions of whether or not to adopt a product is known to be critical. In this paper, we examine the factors that influence the adoption behavior of smartphone early adopters by looking at smartphone adoption behavior of college students, because a large portion of the early adopters of smartphones are college students. Our focus is on the effect of normative peer influence on a college student’s smartphone adoption. We also examine the influence of other factors such as self-innovativeness, self-efficacy, the decision maker’s attitudes towards a product, financial burden of using the product, familial influence, and other demographic factors (e.g., age and gender). College students’ adoption behavior is studied using logit and probit choice models developed based on random utility theory. The discrete choice models are empirically estimated using survey data. We find important influence of friends, financial burden, and other family members on the smartphone adoption of college students who adopted smartphones earlier than other students.

What do we want specifically from the cell phone? An age related study

This study investigated the evolution of specific cell phone feature preferences among high school, undergraduate and graduate college students in Finland. Following the relevant literature review, the paper analyzed the responses of 118 high school, 268 undergraduate and 84 graduate students from educational institutions located in the metropolitan area of Tampere, Finland. The results indicate that the students in Finland appreciate the specific feature “clock”, “phone”, “high battery life”, “alarm”, and “calendar” as very important, and the specific features “TV connectivity”, “joystick”, “live TV”, “Twitter”, and “small screen size” as unimportant features. There were also significant differences in the specific feature preferences between the students between high school, undergraduate and graduate students. In addition there were differences in the way the respondents conceptualize the specific feature preferences of the cell phone. The paper concludes with a discussion regarding the academic and managerial implications.

Quick and simple procedures to assess software reliability and facilitate project management

A software reliability model is considered that is easy to implement, use, and interpret. The model works extremely well in the latter stages of testing. A complete history of failures does not need to be stored in a data base or maintained. This reduces the cost of assessing software reliability. Furthermore, it is possible to use the model to estimate software reliability when failure statistics have not been extensively collected. Various estimation procedures are discussed that can aid in project planning. The use of these estimation procedures is illustrated through two sets of actual failure data.

Reviews the American College Testing Program (1972 Edition) assessment device for the guidance of students enrolled in 2-year colleges and institutes. Issues addressed include testing mechanics, the Career Planning Program Profile (construction and content), reliability, predictive validity, concurrent validity, the Counselor's Manual, and the Student Booklet. It is concluded that the amount of information returned to the student is large and carefully planned, that interpretation of the profile by a guidance counselor would be imperative, and that the level of difficulty of the extensive material presented in the Handbook is high.
