An investigation of induced voltages to an underground gas pipeline from an overhead transmission line

This paper investigates induced voltage characteristics from an overhead transmission line by applying a method of modeling of induced voltages proposed by the authors. EMTP simulation results obtained by the modeling method agree with analytical results obtained from a well‐known formula. The induced voltages are significantly dependent on the configuration of the overhead line. A horizontal line induces the largest voltage in a gas pipeline, and the voltage induced by a vertical twin‐circuit line is about 20% smaller than that induced by a vertical single‐circuit line. The method is applied to a real pipeline system and the simulation results show reasonable agreement with field test results. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Combustion of bulk density powder mixtures in a coflow of nitrogen gas: 3. The Ti-(Ti + 0.5C) layered system

Explored is the filtration combustion in Ti-(Ti + 0.5C) layered powder systems in a coflow of nitrogen gas. The presence/absence of nitrogen coflow through the layered system was found to drastically affect the character of wave propagation and structure/properties of product. The obtained data can be regarded as a basis for fabrication of new layered and composite materials in the mode of dynamic filtration combustion.

CONDITIONING COAL GAS WITH REFRIGERATED METHANOL IN A SYSTEM OF PACKED COLUMNS

Experience with the operation of a pilot-scale unit is used to outline potential difficulties in the operation of acid gas removal systems on gases produced from coal. The pilot plant has been used to condition gases produced from subbituminous coal, devolatilized char, peat and lignite. The solvent used in the acid gas removal system has been refrigerated methyl alcohol. Data from this study document accumulation of hydrocarbons, sulfur and nitrogen compounds, and mercury in the circulating solvent.
