Antimicrobial finishing of regular and modified polyethylene terephthalate fabrics

An effective two-stage method has been developed for imparting antimicrobial properties to regular polyethylene terephthalate (R-PET), polyethylene glycol modified polyethylene terephthalate (PEG-M-PET), R-PET/Cotton blend (R-PET/C) and PEG-M-PET/Cotton blend (PEG-M-PET/C) fabrics. The method consists of partial hydrolysis of the fabrics to create carboxylic groups in PET macromolecules followed by subsequent reaction with dimethylalkylbenzyl ammonium chloride (DMABAC) under alkaline conditions. The reaction conditions such as pH, reaction temperature and time, carboxylic content, and DMABAC concentration were studied. Characterization of the finished fabrics was carried out through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR). All the modified PET fabrics showed excellent antibacterial activity towards Gram-positive (Bacillus mycoides), Gram-negative (Escherichia coli), and nonfilamentous fungus (Candida albicans). The achieved antimicrobial functions on the PET fabrics are durable in repeated laundering processes. Even after laundering 10 times the fabrics could still provide more than 85% of its antimicrobial activity against B. mycoides, E. coli, and C. albicans. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Studies on jute–asphalt composites

The tensile properties of jute make it a suitable raw material for asphalt overlay (A/O) fabric. In this study, the thermal stability of jute under conditions of asphalt overlaying process was investigated and the compatibility of jute with asphalt was assessed through experimentation on jute–asphalt composites under mechanical and hygral loads. Fourier transform infra red (FTIR) spectroscopic study revealed probable chemical bonding between jute and asphalt. The test for ascertaining the capability of asphalt encasement for protecting jute against biodegradation under enzymatic attack was found positive. A 6‐month hygral treatment, of the jute–asphalt composite, showed significant increase in modulus of the material. The results indicate that although the strength of jute deteriorates by about 10% under asphalt overlaying condition, the overall tensile behavior of jute fabric–asphalt composite material is considerably superior to that of the pure jute fabric, even under biological and extended hygral loading conditions. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 传统织物的一次性设计

通过对纤维艺术的学习与研究,我对纤维构成织物的设计有了进一步的思考。在传统编织基础上不断发展起来的现代纤维艺术,一方面在艺术领域得到了有目共睹的长足发展,另一方面在市场经济下也不断地回归实用与设计。在纤维构成织物的设计中包括直接完成半成品或成品的一次性设计和在此基础上进行的二次性设计。尤其,对"传统织物的一次性设计"进行研究是很有必要的。     

Dynamic response of Kevlar®29/epoxy laminates under projectile impact-experimental investigation

This authors of this article investigated the dynamic response of woven Kevlar®29/epoxy laminates subjected to the impact loading. The cylindrical aluminum foam projectile and steel projectile were used to exert the impulse on the laminates. Deformation/failure modes, deflections, strain histories, and failure mechanisms were obtained and discussed. The results showed that with the high toughness of Kevlar fiber, the deformation modes of the laminates exhibited some characteristics similar to the metal panel, such as large global deformation. The failure mechanisms like matrix failure, fiber splitting, and fibrillation were observed. These micron failures led to the macroscopic delamination and fracture of the laminates.     

我国童装设计的现状分析及应对策略初探

儿童的问题已经引起国人的日益关注,而我国童装业起步较晚,存在着各种问题,文章分析了我国童装设计中存在的主要问题及原因,在此基础上,结合童装的特点,提出了若干应对策略。     

预辐射聚丙烯纤维接枝N-异丙基丙烯酰胺及其对Fe(II)离子的吸附

采用预辐射接枝法,将N?异丙基丙烯酰胺(N-Isopropylacryamide,NIPAAm)接枝于聚丙烯纤维。研究了不同条件下接枝纤维对亚铁离子的吸附和解吸附情况。结果表明,在较低温度(5℃)及pH≈0条件下,接枝纤维对金属离子(Fe2 )具有良好的吸附性能;而在较高温度(50℃)下pH≈3时,被吸附的Fe2 几乎能被较完全解脱下来。     

Quattor: Tools and Techniques for the Configuration,Installation and Management of Large-Scale Grid Computing Fabrics

This paper describes the quattor tool suite, a new system for the installation, configuration, and management of operating systems and application software for computing fabrics. At present Unix derivatives such as Linux and Solaris are supported. Quattor is a powerful, portable and modular open source solution that has been shown to scale to thousands of computing nodes and offers a significant reduction in management costs for large computing fabrics. The quattor tool suite includes innovations compared to existing solutions which make it very useful for computing fabrics integrated into grid environments. Evaluations of the tool suite in current large scale computing environments are presented.

介绍了紧密纱的特点和细特高密色织物的设计与开发过程,在此基础上对紧密纱色织物生产过程中各主要工序的工艺参数与技术措施作了详细阐述,其中重点探讨了紧密纱的上浆技术,认为应采取“小张力、低黏度、中压力、重浸透、低上浆、高回潮、少用PVA”的工艺原则。
