Progresses made on content-based image retrieval have reactivated the research on image analysis and a number of similarity-based methods have been established to assess the similarity between images. In this paper, the content-based approach is extended towards the problem of image collection summarization and comparison. For these purposes we propose to carry out clustering analysis on visual features using self-organizing maps, and then evaluate their similarity using a few dissimilarity measures implemented on the feature maps. Abstract— High‐dynamic‐range (HDR) image capture and display has become an important engineering topic. The discipline of reproducing scenes with a high range of luminances has a five‐century history that includes painting, photography, electronic imaging, and image processing. HDR images are superior to conventional images. There are two fundamental scientific issues that control HDR image capture and reproduction. The first is the range of information that can be measured using different techniques. The second is the range of image information that can be utilized by humans. Optical veiling glare severely limits the range of luminance that can be captured and seen. It is the improved quantization of digital data and the preservation of the scene's spatial information that causes the improvement in quality in HDR reproductions. 相似文献

The existence of modular structures in the biological world strongly suggests that the training of this kind of structure is actually feasible. It is a key indication for the development of neural network applications, especially in the field of robotics. Indeed, a single network can only efficiently treat problems with few independent variables; the combination of several networks is necessary to address more complex tasks. We investigate learning techniques and show that using a particular form of architecture can ease the training of a modular structure: a bi-directional structure that allows combining several neural networks. This study aimed to focus on medical knowledge representation and reasoning using the probabilistic and fuzzy influence processes, implemented in the semantic web, for decision support tasks. Bayesian belief networks (BBNs) and fuzzy cognitive maps (FCMs), as dynamic influence graphs, were applied to handle the task of medical knowledge formalization for decision support. In order to perform reasoning on these knowledge models, a general purpose reasoning engine, EYE, with the necessary plug-ins was developed in the semantic web. The two formal approaches constitute the proposed decision support system (DSS) aiming to recognize the appropriate guidelines of a medical problem, and to propose easily understandable course of actions to guide the practitioners. The urinary tract infection (UTI) problem was selected as the proof-of-concept example to examine the proposed formalization techniques implemented in the semantic web. The medical guidelines for UTI treatment were formalized into BBN and FCM knowledge models. To assess the formal models’ performance, 55 patient cases were extracted from a database and analyzed. The results showed that the suggested approaches formalized medical knowledge efficiently in the semantic web, and gave a front-end decision on antibiotics’ suggestion for UTI. 相似文献

Mapping quality of the self-organising maps (SOMs) is sensitive to the map topology and initialisation of neurons. In this article, in order to improve the convergence of the SOM, an algorithm based on split and merge of clusters to initialise neurons is introduced. The initialisation algorithm speeds up the learning process in large high-dimensional data sets. We also develop a topology based on this initialisation to optimise the vector quantisation error and topology preservation of the SOMs. Such an approach allows to find more accurate data visualisation and consequently clustering problem. The numerical results on eight small-to-large real-world data sets are reported to demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithm in the sense of vector quantisation, topology preservation and CPU time requirement. 相似文献

The A2BX4 family of compounds manifest a wide range of physical properties, including transparent conductivity, ferromagnetism, and superconductivity. A 98% successful diagrammatic separation of the 44 different crystal structures of 688 oxide A2BX4 compounds (96% for 266 oxide‐only) is described by plotting the total radius of the A atom RA versus the radius of the B atom RB for many A2BX4 compounds of known structure types and seeking heuristically simple, straight boundaries in the RA versus RB plane that best separate the domains of different structure types. The radii are sums RA = Rs(A) + Rp(A) of the quantum‐mechanically calculated “orbital radii” Rs(Rp), rather than empirical radii or phenomenological electronegativity scales. These success rates using first‐principles orbital radii uniformly exceed the success rates using classic radii. Such maps afford a quick guess of the crystal structure of a yet unmade A2BX4 compound by placing its atomic orbital radii on such maps and reading off its structure type. 相似文献

Weblogs are dynamic websites updated via easy-to-use content management systems and organized as a set of chronologically ordered stories, frequently built around a link or including links to other weblogs. Since they are managed by individuals, their links tend to mirror or, in some cases, establish new types of social relations, thereby creating a social network. Studying the evolution of this network allows the discovery of emerging social structures and their growth trends. In this paper, we demonstrate the advantages of using the self-organizing maps (SOM) to visualize the evolution of a social network formed by a set of blogs, from their beginning to their current state. By observing the position a weblog is mapped to, it is easy to see what communities it belongs to nowadays, and how and when it became a part of those communities. The proposed procedure gives some insight on how communities are formed and have evolved. In this study, we apply this method to Blogalia, a blog-hosting site from which we have obtained a complete set of data and, by using SOM projections, we have drawn some conclusions on what drives the evolution of its implicit social network. 相似文献
